View Full Version : Am I dreaming or has GSN been going downhill?
Hawkee 02-03-2016, 03:15 AM Lately when I have seen GSN I have noticed that it's slowly going downhill and I would like to know why the reason is? Is it because GSN is trying to attract a new audience to the channel or is GSN trying to get a new image this year? Because when I watch Catch 21 every morning I have seen advertisements for stuff such as life insurance and motorized scooters and As Seen On TV ads and it tells me that GSN scores high ratings with the senior crowd. Another thing that i've noticed about GSN is that they seem to have an obsession with one show and I simply do not know why on earth GSN does this. Ever since they started airing reruns of Steve Harvey's Family Feud it seems that GSN practically shows reruns of Family Feud almost every day of the week or weekend and I wish that GSN would show reruns of more game shows that are GSN favorites. The other thing I have noticed about GSN is when they introduce a new GSN original show GSN doesn't promote it or put advertisements in magazines. I've noticed this when The Chase came out in 2013 and every single entertainment magazines had no The Chase posters or advertisements and the only GSN shows that have gotten magazine ads are the now cancelled The American Bible Challenge and Skin Wars and you might think that GSN could do a lot better. Finally when GSN has successful game shows it always seems that the hosts get the center of attention because I've noticed that Steve Harvey and Mike Catherwood are the top GSN stars and it seems that Brooke Burns Mark Labbett Rebecca Romjin-Stamos and Ben Gleib are forgotten about. Is GSN trying to go in a new direction this year?,

Hawkee 03-25-2016, 01:51 AM Here's another thing I discovered about GSN that is causing them to go downhill. Whenever a famous game show host dies or has a birthday GSN does not even have a marathon of that host's show to celebrate or honor the game show host and I remember when GSN used to honor birthdays of game show hosts by having a marathon of a show that starred the game show host celebrating a birthday. Is this because GSN pays tons of money for special marathons now or is it because GSN is trying really hard to focus on other things as well? The other thing I've noticed about GSN is that on special holidays such as St. Patrick's Day and Easter GSN does not show special episodes on those days and you might think with Easter this Sunday GSN would have shown reruns of The American Bible Challenge and had other Easter themed game show episodes. The third thing I have discovered about GSN is whenever they have a popular show they never release merchandise based on the game show and it surprises me that GSN never does this and the only GSN shows that i've seen that has had merchandise are Lingo with a DVD board game Bingo America also with a DVD game and The American Bible Challenge teamed up with Walmart to sell an exclusive board game version of the show and the only merchandise i've seen for The Chase and Idiotest are tablet apps. Finally GSN should really update their morning lineup because I've noticed that GSN likes to put their good shows in the early timeslot and I think it would be good to see other game show favorites at a later timeslot. And I don't understand why GSN put reruns of The Pyramid after Catch 21 when I would LOVE to see another Catch 21 episode back to back or even Deal Or No Deal be shown to replace The Pyramid
What do you think of GSN in your opinion?

Zoneboy 03-25-2016, 02:19 AM I gave up on GSN years ago.
mets82 03-25-2016, 06:01 PM No, it's not you. I watch very little of GSN. I like Steve Harvey but Family Feud could wane on you because it's on all the time.
Hawkee 03-26-2016, 04:50 AM Thanks for your great opinion Mets82. I would like to see GSN show lots of other game shows besides Steve Harvey's Family Feud like reruns of Greed The Series Supermarket Sweep and the Monty Hall version of Let's Make A Deal rather than Family Feud all the time and with a lineup like this GSN would bring a wonderful new audience to the network and with the debuts of the new seasons of Skin Wars and Idiotest coming next month GSN will get huge ratings and be a success once again. Also when the new game show Winsanity debuts GSN will not go downhill and be a great channel again,
Bestie
Edward216 03-27-2016, 01:37 AM Yeah since it's become Steve Harvey and Family Feud all the time it's just unwatchable. I really hate that version, it's disgusting.
But I do watch The Chase, Idiotest, and the new version of Chain Reaction when I can. But I have to say I don't always watch Chain Reaction either. I think Mike Catherwood is kind of mean with his sense of humor sometimes and a little bit too smarmy. So no I don't always like him either.
Ed.
Hawkee 03-27-2016, 04:24 AM Thank you for your wonderful reply Edward. I'm glad you agree with me about GSN. Even though GSN is no longer gonna have a new season of The Chase I still love to watch the reruns of it every Saturday morning. But also what could work wonders with GSN in my opinion that would make it a wonderful channel is that they should revive the Playmania interactive game show and lots more game shows that are interactive and attract a big fanbase indeed
Bestie
VillechaizeLove 03-29-2016, 12:46 AM Yeah, GSN has been pretty.... bad for a while now. I liked it several years ago when they showed all the old game shows, and IIRC, retro episodes of Wheel of Fortune, and two of my fave older game shows, Supermarket Sweep, and Shop Til You Drop. I tend to only watch GSN now if I'm super bored.
Crusinforabrusin 03-29-2016, 12:59 AM Just like Tvland, GSN used to be great. Lots of classic game shows with great hosts. Now they play crap shows like Baggage or some dumb game shows. But if you're lucky there's a TV network called Buzzr TV which airs all classic game shows
Hawkee 04-01-2016, 01:42 AM I think some of GSN's biggest mistakes that caused them to go downhill was when they canceled some of their original programming. Take for example GSN was gonna have a third season of Whammy but then when they got a new president GSN was gonna also add another season of Russian Roulette as well and it too got cancelled. But then a really smart thing happened to GSN that no other network had done in the history of TV networks. They started getting reruns of game shows a week after the show's cancellation starting with Deal Or No Deal and then repeated the same thing when they added reruns of the NBC Guy Fieri hosted version of Minute To Win It after NBC cancelled it. I think what has really made GSN go downhill for me that makes me so sad and it still makes me heartbroken and upset that they did this is the shocking cancellation of The Chase and I won't never understand why GSN would cancel a game show that was a smash hit everywhere and not only did they cancel The Chase but GSN also cancelled Lie Detectors and It Takes A Church as well and now the Michael Catherwood version of Chain Reaction might be cancelled as well. Hopefully GSN will bring back a new version of The Chase and focus less on Family Feud someday. Because that will make GSN fans really happy indeed

mets82 04-01-2016, 05:19 PM I think the real problem is that GSN will never be like it was. The thing is that all the original programming that you see is here to stay and the classic programming (Match Game, 25,000 Pyramid) is really there to a) throw the classic fans a bone and most importantly b) to prop up the original shows. What I mean is that the only reason why the classic shows are on there is so they can plug the newer stuff.
Hawkee 04-21-2016, 02:13 AM I've also noticed that whenever GSN has a hit smash show they make the host of the show their most popular star but when GSN cancels the show you don't hear much about the hosts anymore. Take for example when The Chase was launched on GSN in 2013 Mark Labbett became one of GSN's biggest stars but when GSN cancelled The Chase Mark Labbett is now a one hit wonder in America and now the only star of The Chase who is now appearing in Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Channel's series Gourmet Detective is Brooke Burns. Another former GSN star that also became a one hit wonder was Bill Engvall and ever since GSN cancelled the Lingo revival Bill Engvall has never hosted another game show for GSN and now it seems that Steve Harvey has become the number one star of GSN. Another thing that GSN should improve on is having a better lineup for Sunday morning and it seems that every Sunday morning GSN seems to play nothing but Family Feud and Deal Or No Deal is at 6AM PT and I would love to see shows like 1 Vs 100 or even Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader in place of Family Feud on Sunday mornings and that would make my Sundays happy times indeed
Bestie
Hawkee 05-31-2016, 01:58 AM Here's another thing I have noticed about GSN that I cannot figure out why they do this. Whenever they have a popular show or a show that's just starting out GSN has started making spin-offs of the shows and I find it surprising that they do this. Take for instance starting last year GSN launched a spin-off show of Skin Wars called Skin Wars Fresh Paint that is hosted by RuPaul and it's gonna get a second season next month and also Idiotest has had a spin-off special as well. I find it odd that Idiotest and Skin Wars get spin-offs and not any other shows too. The other thing is why doesn't GSN show marathons on Memorial Day or any other summer holiday? I remember when GSN used to have Memorial Day marathons every year of shows such as The Chase The American Bible Challenge and Minute To Win It but now you don't see marathons for Memorial Day on GSN anymore. Is this done to save money or is it a chance for GSN to promote new summer shows?
I think that with Summer around the corner GSN will improve the network and gain a summer fanbase of people to gain Summer ratings and with shows like Winsanity coming to GSN this summer will be a miracle season for GSN and return to being a awesome network that GSN really is

MrCleveland 05-31-2016, 01:41 PM GSN has been going downhill for quite awhile.
More than likely, it was 2004 when the station Jumped The Shark by calling themselves GSN.
Then came...the reality shows! GSN only cares about one thing now...money!
Hawkee 06-01-2016, 01:31 AM I'm very happy you agree with me MrCleveland because GSN is one of my favorite channels and I wish GSN had a lineup that's more interesting rather than showing Steve Harvey's Family Feud and perhaps make a new version of The Chase or Catch 21 because those two shows are GSN fan favorites and maybe someday have an improved Sunday Morning lineup because every Sunday morning when I see GSN they show Family Feud also on Sunday and they should show game shows like Minute To Win It and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Thank you for replying MrCleveland

loaferman 06-01-2016, 09:13 AM I literally can not watch "Family Feud" any longer. Even if it were a brand new episode. I am so burned out on the show and Steve Harvey.
GSN got good ratings for "The Chase" and I liked the show a lot, but I read somewhere the majority of the high ratings came from viewers older than the desirable demographic. The same was likely for the older shows that were real game shows as opposed to reality competitions or whatever you call those.
GSN like TVLand and others before it want that precious 18-54 demographic. I suspect their average viewer is 40 or over because if you see the commercials they are all oriented to things young people don't want or need like scooters, medical alert devices, and not leaving your family any debt when you die.

No Prob...
Because when I would see my mom's parents (my grandparents), I'd watch reruns of To Tell The Truth (1970's version), What's My Line? (Why haven't they revamped this show)?, Card Sharks, and Blockbusters.
When I got satellite in 2001, I would watch some of these classic game shows. I know that stations have to make money, but don't squeeze-out the old shows for cash-cow shows!
I wish I could run TV for a week!
ohno:ohno:ohno:ohno:ohno:

You know GSN will shove any type of reality game show down your throat to get that important male demographic. I'm 34 and could care less. I always say that a Game Show Network should be about game shows. Yes, GSN, shows game shows but the fact that they show so much new stuff is so obvious. Because again, they covet that male demo and who cares about a game show from 1983 even though I think there are a lot of fans that rather watch a show from that time period than today.

I am very happy you wrote to me Loaferman I liked The Chase too and i'm very sad that it got cancelled but now I won't be able to see The Chase reruns on Saturdays anymore because GSN is gonna replace it with more reruns of Steve Harvey's Family Feud and that makes me so unhappy because every Saturday morning I would get up extra early just to see The Chase even though my mother would tell me to sleep in and now I guess I have to find another show to watch on Saturday mornings now. But at least Catch 21 is still there weekday mornings on GSN because that's also my second favorite GSN show to watch and i'm happy to see it in weekday mornings
Thank you very much for replying Loaferman

Hawkee 09-02-2016, 02:00 AM Another thing that GSN did that I don't understand why they did this seems to be a mystery to me is the cancellation of the Apolo Anton Ohno version of Minute To Win It and that version of Minute To Win It was my favorite show on GSN when it aired then without a warning GSN cancelled it in Season 2 and when I first heard about it I was surprised because next to The Chase the Apolo Anton Ohno version of Minute To Win It was the second smash hit show on GSN and because of this cancellation GSN no longer shows both versions of Minute To Win It with the Apolo Anton Ohno version of Minute To Win It being shown in reruns for a brief time earlier this year. And now it seems that now Steve Harvey's version of Family Feud is getting less commercials it seems that Idiotest and Winsanity are now the center of attention and Ben Gleib and Donald Faison are now two of GSN's top stars this year. I also do wish that they would bring back Greed reruns and perhaps rerun ABC's Duel someday

Hawkee 01-29-2017, 06:54 AM It seems that this year GSN is also gonna focus on designing tablet apps and video games in addition to creating more successful game shows that will sure appeal to a more successful audience. Another thing I wish that GSN would do this year is improve their midnight lineup by having more shows such as Chuck Woolery's Love Connection reruns and the syndicated version of Deal Or No Deal in place of Baggage and The Newlywed Game with Sherri Shepherd and that would be such an awesome lineup for the midnight hour. Another thing that I've noticed about GSN this year is that ever since Idiotest began it's new season and Divided debuted it seems that Ben Gleib and Mike Richards have become big stars with Ben Gleib now one of GSN's top stars of 2017 and now it seems that with Mike Richards a big success with Divided it seems that Steve Harvey and Donald Faison are being replaced as the top stars of GSN due to the popularity of Divided. So I think with two successful shows I think GSN has recovered from being downhill and is on a new road to success

GameShowFan66 02-28-2017, 05:39 PM While not much better, BUZZZR at least offers a bit more variety of programming, although it's annoying that they stretch out the 50s/60s versions of "To Tell The Truth", "What's My Line?" and "I've Got A Secret" to 40 minutes each.
GSN it seems for the longest time did Pyramid, Match Game and Feud. Now it's more or less 18 hours of Harvey's Feud. I about fell off of my sofa today when I saw a 2014 Wheel of Fortune episode on! Then again I am battling an upper respiratory infection with fever, so maybe I was hallucinating when I saw it.
Willbo 02-28-2017, 05:56 PM Endless hours of Family Feud is way too much. I would like to see some of the older games shows like Concentration, Hollywood Squares, Jokers Wild, Split Second, High Rollers, Jeopardy, Celebrity Sweepstakes ect.
Hawkee 03-02-2017, 03:29 AM I think little by little GSN is slowly gonna return to it's classic game show roots and start airing the game shows that fans will love and they have just started doing this by removing the weekday morning reruns of John O'Hurley's Family Feud and replacing them with more reruns of Gene Rayburn's Match Game and because of this I think we shall see a whole new morning lineup of classic game shows on GSN in the future. Another thing that I have noticed about GSN that seems to have cured it from going downhill this year is that the game show Divided seems to be such a success and GSN has started airing new episodes every Wednesday and Thursday nights and that is a really smart idea that GSN has done with Divided that has never been done with any other GSN game show. But I do wish to see a new version of Catch 21 or The Chase in the future because they are cool shows and perhaps bring Minute To Win It reruns back to the lineup and that alone would be so awesome for GSN to air
Bestie
DadTheKing 03-02-2017, 03:46 PM Hi Bestie! I think either GSN is going broke or they are full of tightwads! Also they are full of people who do not know about game shows. What do you think?
DTK
Hawkee 02-04-2018, 06:27 AM A very wrong thing GSN did and I don't know why they did it is when they debuted the new Game Show Classics Saturday lineup last year they added reruns of the original syndicated Monty Hall version of Let's Make A Deal then removed it and replaced it with reruns of Richard Dawson's Family Feud and it shocks me that GSN did it when they should've kept the original LMAD episodes to keep Monty Hall's spirit alive throughout GSN. Another thing I have noticed about GSN is in it's promotion of top game show hosts I have noticed that Steve Harvey is no longer the star host of GSN and now is replaced by Ben Bailey of Cash Cab and Chris Harrison of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire as the top GSN stars. Finally it seems that GSN is going in a new direction and adding news shows about game shows starting with the show Cover Story and what I see is that GSN is trying to make a game show news version of the news magazine show A Current Affair that ran in the 80's-90's. So these new changes are what I think is trying to save GSN from going broke and downhill
Bestie
Dude111 02-06-2018, 04:46 PM Lately when I have seen GSN I have noticed that it's slowly going downhill......It has been garbage for years!!!
Hawkee 03-18-2018, 07:02 AM Another wrong and saddening thing that GSN did and I still can't believe that GSN had done was removing Catch 21 reruns from their morning lineup last year and then bringing Catch 21 reruns back but instead put them in the early morning lineup and it surprised me because Catch 21 used to be my favorite morning show and because of this I think Catch 21 watchers were disappointed at this news when GSN announced changes to their morning schedule in April of last year. The other thing GSN did and I also cannot figure out why they chose to do is air Wheel Of Fortune episodes from 2011-2015 and when it was announced that Wheel Of Fortune was gonna join the GSN lineup fans were overjoyed but if I were president or programming executive of GSN I would've started with the debut episodes of Wheel Of Fortune's syndicated debut from 1983 and continued with the rest of the 80's seasons of Wheel Of Fortune and then adding the 90's episodes rather than the 2000's episodes and the recent season of Wheel Of Fortune. But I do wish we could see new versions of The Chase and Catch 21 and even a remake of To Tell The Truth would work miracles for GSN's lineup or perhaps make game show hosts like Mark L. Walberg Todd Newton and Bill Engvall return to the GSN family to host new exciting and fresh game shows in the future and that would bring a new ray of sunshine to GSN
Bestie
Hawkee 06-01-2018, 04:03 AM Here's a shocking surprise which tells me that GSN is gonna focus more on Steve Harvey's Family Feud and other shows. GSN is planning to remove The Chase reruns from the afternoon lineup and putting more Family Feud reruns with Steve Harvey and it makes me think that GSN is gonna expand the morning and afternoon lineup for the summer. It used to be that Steve Harvey was the crown prince of GSN but now with Ben Bailey and Chris Harrison the king and prince of the GSN kingdom I think it won't be long til John Michael Higgins joins the GSN kingdom with the debut of America Says launching June 18th. However I would like to see Mark Labbett become The Comeback Kid and host a new show for GSN. If GSN could bring back former stars such as Alfonso Ribeiro Brooke Burns Michael Catherwood Todd Newton or have celebrities like Jason Bateman or Chris Parnell or Carlos Alazraqui hosting new game shows for GSN it would make GSN number one on TV again
Bestie
icecream 06-01-2018, 02:43 PM Pathetic. 6 straight hours of Feud was bad enough, now it is expanded to 7 straight hours with no more airings of The Chase after today. At least the $25,000 Pyramid hour is staying put at 10AM, hope it is still there when America Says comes to weekdays on June 18.

I agree. Feud is already on NBC, and we really don’t need even more Steve Harvey.
