View Full Version : FX's The People v. O.J. Simpson feels as compelling today as it did in 1995

The O.J. trial was not just the Trial of the 20th Century, says Willa Paskin. "As FX’s hugely watchable new miniseries The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story demonstrates, it is the trial of our current century as well," she adds. "It extends tentacularly into the present moment, when we are once again in the midst of a national reckoning about the intrinsic racism of our police forces, when the NFL is grappling with violence done to and by its players, and when a 24/7 celebrity news culture is dominated by the O.J.-connected Kardashians. Race, sex, violence, fame, football: the live wires of the O.J. trial are still sparking with the same powerful, electrifying charge. The series’ timing is so propitious as to be vertiginous. The truth is more prompt than fiction.” PLUS: People vs. O.J. is absorbing, infuriating and thoroughly entertaining (http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/02/arts/television/tv-review-people-vs-oj-simpson-american-crime-story.html), the “simply awful” John Travolta is the only weak link (http://variety.com/2016/tv/reviews/the-people-v-o-j-simpson-american-crime-story-review-fx-john-travolta-cuba-gooding-jr-ryan-murphy-1201684402/) in a great cast, it successfully acquits Ryan Murphy (http://www.avclub.com/review/fxs-people-vs-oj-simpson-successfully-acquits-ryan-231410), it is enormously compelling, even bold (http://www.laweekly.com/film/american-crime-story-is-a-devastating-oj-retelling-6545509), as a legal procedural, the actors wow with empathy (http://www.ew.com/article/2016/02/02/american-crime-story-ew-review) and nuance, it is not crude or cartoonish (http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/02/08/not-guilty-pleasure) but ideologically and emotionally nuanced, it is incredibly watchable and clever (http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/review-fxs-compelling-the-people-v-oj-simpson-american-crime-story) as it pivots between its many big themes and the more basic issue of dramatizing The Trial, the miniseries is an intoxicating mix of truthiness and speculative soapiness, Sarah Paulson talks playing Marcia Clark, author Jeffrey Toobin (http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/interrogation/2016/01/jeffrey_toobin_on_american_crime_story_and_how_the_o_j_simpson_trial_would.html) on his book becoming an FX miniseries, and FX is convinced (https://t.co/aUiqHMUC5U) you no longer have O.J. fatigue.
Bonniegirl 02-02-2016, 09:41 PM I'm going to watch this!!!!!
Mace Dolex 02-02-2016, 11:43 PM Half hour into and its really interesting, I was 18 when it happened and it brings back a lot of memories.
Bonniegirl 02-03-2016, 12:21 AM Half hour into and its really interesting, I was 18 when it happened and it brings back a lot of memories.
Wait a minute!!! I'm confused !!!! You are in California right, Mace? I am too!!! How come it isn't on here! I put FX on at 7PM thinking it might be on at that time out here? and Thor is on! I'm assuming it would be on at 10 here too? But you are watching it now?
I liked Stephan Colbert saying this show meant Peyton Manning wasn't the only white Bronco on TV this week.
Mace Dolex 02-03-2016, 01:34 AM Wait a minute!!! I'm confused !!!! You are in California right, Mace? I am too!!! How come it isn't on here! You're correct, I'm in California and the Thor movie was airing I think from 4:30-7:00 with the O.J. movie immediately following, in fact FX is airing it three times in a row so you can't miss it.
Bonniegirl 02-03-2016, 03:35 AM Yeah we watched it at 10-11:20 ! Than they were running it again! Really good!!! The only one I don't think was casted well is OJ!! Cuba Gooding (nothing against him, I think his acting is good in this) ) but he isn't OJ Simpson at all! Looks nothing like him or sounds nothing like him! The rest of the cast is great! WOW, David Schwimmer is really spot on as Robert Kardashian! And Johnny Cochran, my GOD he looks just like him!!!!And Marcia Clark and Kato were casted really well too! And John Travolta as Robert Shapiro, he doesn't look that much like him but I think he is capturing his personality and mannerisms from what I remember of Shapiro! ;)
http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2016/02/02/fact_vs_fiction_in_the_people_v_o_j_simpson_american_crime_story.html
The American Crime Story debut wasn’t able to delve into why Mark Fuhrman knew where O.J. Simpson lived (in fact, the controversial detective was responsible for Simpson’s arrest for domestic violence in 1989). The premiere also didn’t explain why Kato Kaelin lived with Simpson (he was in the middle of a power struggle between O.J. and Nicole). PLUS: People v. O.J. filmed in the real Robert Kardashian house (http://www.glamour.com/entertainment/blogs/obsessed/2016/02/behind-the-scenes-secrets-of-a), Simpson actually did threaten to kill himself in Kim Kardashian’s bedroom (http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2016/02/oj-simpson-suicide-kim-kardashian-bedroom-american-crime-story), the Kardashian kids (https://twitter.com/stephaniemarcus/status/694745201559105536/photo/1) did indeed attend Nicole Brown Simpson’s funeral, Marcia Clark calls (http://www.vulture.com/2016/02/marcia-clark-people-v-oj-simpson-what-it-got-right-and-wrong.html) the event series “extremely painful” — but Sarah Paulson “is a genius,” Courtney B. Vance recalls (http://zap2it.com/2016/02/courtney-b-vance-playing-johnnie-cochran-people-v-o-j-simpson/) reacting to the O.J. verdict while filming with Tony Goldwyn, and inside the three-year journey (http://www.vulture.com/2016/02/fx-people-v-oj-simpson-came-together.html) to bring The People v. O.J. to the small screen.

About 5.1 million tuned in for the American Crime Story franchise debut (http://forums.previously.tv/topic/38051-s01e01-from-the-ashes-of-tragedy/?view=getnewpost), topping The Shield’s 4.8 million in March 2002. PLUS: Marcia Clark is “super impressed” (http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/02/03/marcia-clark-new-o-j-simpson-show-is-like-reliving-a-nightmare.html) with Ryan Murphy, Kato Kaelin complains there’s too much Kato Kaelin (http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/people-v-o-simpson-kato-kato-article-1.2517887), and O.J. actually threatened to kill himself in Kim Kardashian’s bedroom. (http://www.tmz.com/2016/02/03/oj-simpson-tv-show-suicide-kim-kardashian-bedroom/)

Cuba Gooding, Jr. is way too small looking and his voice is too high-pitched and thin (O.J. Simpson had a very deep sounding, authoritative voice) to be totally convincing as O.J. Simpson.
Mace Dolex 02-04-2016, 01:14 AM Despite Cuba Gooding not looking the part of O.J. I think he did good considering any no-name actor wouldn't be able to carry the 10-episode miniseries except for maybe Idris Elba but he might've been too pricey.

"What I think is unfortunately going to get lost in this is that my brother was doing a good deed,” says Kim Goldman. "[He] walked in on what we believe was a horrific crime and he didn't run.” She adds: "They don't show that in this. And that really sucks. My brother could've run and saved his own life. And he stayed to help his friend [Nicole] ... I want people to remember my brother was a hero."

The glove didn't fit because it was stiff, and shrunken from dried up blood! Also OJ had arthritis and took anti inflammatory drugs and suddenly stopped taking them prior to the glove demonstration in court ! ;)
http://www.ew.com/article/2016/02/09/american-crime-story-oj-simpson-bronco-chase
In what Ryan Murphy calls a “once-in-a-lifetime occurrence," the American Crime Story series shot for two weekend days on a mile-long stretch of the 710 freeway (http://www.vulture.com/2016/02/people-v-oj-simpson-bronco-car-chase-episode.html) in Los Angeles. “It was probably the hardest and most rewarding thing I have ever directed because it was so complex,” says Murphy. “It was the thing that drove the production team to a nervous breakdown. I always said I’m most interested in what people don’t know. So we started in the car and we got all of Malcolm(-Jamal Warner) and Cuba (Gooding Jr.)’s performances first and I wouldn’t move on until we got that. And once we got that we built outwards and did the chase, the aerials and the 200 police officers and all of that. On the last minute of shooting on the second day, we got the very last shot we needed. So it was very nerve-wracking. But in L.A., historically, you can’t close down a freeway!” PLUS: How much of Episode 2 was accurate (http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2016/02/09/is_the_people_v_o_j_simpson_accurate_a_fact_check_of_episode_2.html)?, Malcolm-Jamal Warner calls shooting on an empty freeway “surreal,” in defense of Cuba Gooding Jr. (http://www.ew.com/article/2016/02/09/defense-cuba-gooding-jr-oj-simpson) as Simpson, David Schwimmer recalls (http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/10/arts/television/david-schwimmer-people-oj-simpson-kardashian-interview.html) following the O.J. trial while filming Season 1 of Friends, and Schwimmer’s Ross Geller baggage (http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/review-robert-kardashian-is-fool-hero-both-as-people-v-oj-takes-on-the-white-bronco-chase) actually works with the Robert Kardashian role.
FrostyShine 02-10-2016, 06:44 PM The glove didn't fit because it was stiff, and shrunken from dried up blood! Also OJ had arthritis and took anti inflammatory drugs and suddenly stopped taking them prior to the glove demonstration in court ! ;)
Darden also claims the defense lawyers tightened the stitching and manipulated it to make it smaller.
http://www.tmz.com/2016/02/10/kardashian-sisters-cheering-name-people-vs-oj-simpson/
Kim, Kourtney, Khloe and Rob were shown chanting their family name, which never actually happened (http://www.eonline.com/news/738740/the-kardashian-kids-didn-t-really-cheer-when-robert-kardashian-read-o-j-simpson-s-letter-on-tv?c). According to TMZ, Kim Kardashian found the scene over-the-top and “ridiculous.” PLUS: Larry Wilmore (http://thecomicscomic.com/2016/02/10/larry-wilmore-stars-in-the-people-v-bill-cosby-sketch-for-the-nightly-show/) stars in a People v. O.J.-inspired Bill Cosby sketch, and why no mention of Howard Stern (http://decider.com/2016/02/10/the-people-v-o-j-simpson-recap-episode-2-rex-sorgatz/) during the Bronco chase?
http://www.ew.com/article/2016/02/16/defending-kardashians-kids-people-v-oj-simpson
American Crime Story viewers appear unanimous in their distaste for the inclusion of a teenage Kim Kardashian and her siblings, with one calling them the “Jar Jar Binks” of the FX anthology series and others accusing producers of shoehorning them in to boost ratings. But as Joe McGovern points out, "That’s an absurd accusation, made mainly by people who never heard the name Kardashian before 2007 and for that reason feel like the show is twisting itself into knots in order to include the family. When, in fact, they are a peripheral — but ineradicable — crumb of the O.J. cake.” In fact, he says, producers are using the Kardashians to make a satirical point about fame and celebrity. PLUS: Producers say there are only 4 or 5 scenes with the Kardashian kids (http://tvline.com/2016/01/16/american-crime-story-fx-oj-simpson-kim-kardashian/) out of 400 scenes, pointing out that the Kardashians are emblematic of this early reality TV period, and Nicole Brown Simpson’s sister slams David Schwimmer (http://www.thewrap.com/american-crime-story-nicole-brown-simpsons-sister-blasts-david-schwimmer-for-not-contacting-victims-family/) for not contacting the victim’s family.

Jenee Darden wrote a blog post (http://www.cocoafly.com/2016/02/chris-dardens-daughter-gives-her.html) about her experience watching the FX miniseries (she was 15 when her dad prosecuted O.J.) and tweeted Brown: "You look a lot like my dad. Kudos to the makeup department.” PLUS: O.J. and Nicole’s kids (http://www.eonline.com/news/742359/o-j-simpson-and-nicole-brown-simpson-s-kids-make-rare-public-appearance-at-casey-reinhardt-s-oc-wedding) attended a Laguna Beach star’s wedding.

The Boyz n the Hood director says of shooting last night's The Race Card episode, which focused on Johnnie Cochran vs. Christopher Darden: “They were more like cowboys…and I had to put them in adversarial positions, like gunslingers, but they were using the law as a weapon.” PLUS: Sterling K. Brown reveals (http://variety.com/2016/tv/features/people-v-o-j-simpson-sterling-k-brown-chris-darden-1201692561/) all the research he did to play Darden -- including a failed attempt to get Darden to talk, how factual (http://www.rollingstone.com/tv/recaps/the-people-v-o-j-simpson-episode-5-our-fact-checking-recap-20160301) was this week’s episode?, the real Carl Douglas (https://twitter.com/dalegodboldo/status/704875998345494529?refsrc=email&s=11) watched last night’s episode with the actor who played him, and Courtney B. Vance reacted (http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/03/01/the-people-v-o-j-simpson-how-courtney-b-vance-mastered-playing-johnnie-cochran.html) with “fear” when he landed the Johnnie Cochran role.
http://nypost.com/2016/03/06/why-this-lapd-detective-wont-be-watching-fxs-o-j-series/
The controversial former LAPD detective, who’s the centerpiece of this week’s American Crime Story, says: "FX is attempting to establish a historical artifact with this series without reaching out to any prosecution sources. In a time when Americans read less and less and investigative journalism is on vacation, it is sad that this movie will be the historical word on this infamous trial. After all, it was 'based on a true story." This miniseries will most probably define not the historical record of the murder of two people, but the almost pathological desire to elevate a narcissistic, violent man to victim status just because he was a black athlete. Immensely sad. I am angry and bitter because the truth is a massaged reality." PLUS: Fuhrman did collect Nazi medals (http://www.thewrap.com/o-j-simpson-chris-darden-mark-fuhrman-nazi-medals/), according to Christopher Darden.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/act-four/wp/2016/03/09/pop-culture-was-vicious-to-marcia-clark-a-new-show-offers-an-overdue-apology/
Last night’s episode, titled Marcia, Marcia, Marcia (http://forums.previously.tv/topic/40005-s01e06-marcia-marcia-marcia/?view=getnewpost), was a powerful looked at the sexism the O.J. Simpson prosecutor experienced -- "without bending over backward to make Clark likable or soft,” says Alyssa Rosenberg. She adds: "The way The People v. O.J. Simpson (http://www.lipstickalley.com/showthread.php/1002775-People-vs-OJ-Simpson-Ep-6-3-8-16-Watch-Thread) treats Clark is striking not just with the benefit of time, but also given the way Clark has been portrayed in the media. Last year, the ostensibly feminist comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, about a woman (Ellie Kemper) who escapes from a cult and moves to New York, ended with series co-creator Tina Fey playing a version of Clark (http://s3-img.goldderby.com/ck/images/TinaFey%281%29.jpg) who was not just viciously stupid but also sexually odd.” Rosenberg notes that Fey's portrayal is consistent with how Clark has been depicted over the past two decades, including on SNL. PLUS: The “devastating truth” behind (http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2016/03/marcia-clark-topless-photos-people-v-oj-simpson-american-crime-story) Clark’s leaked topless photos, how accurate (http://www.vulture.com/2016/03/people-v-oj-simpson-episode-6-fact-checked.htmlhttp://www.vulture.com/2016/03/people-v-oj-simpson-episode-6-fact-checked.html) was this week’s episode?, and Sarah Paulson talks (http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/sarah-paulson-marcia-clark-people-v-oj-simpson-1201721345/) about the Marcia Clark episode.

The soundtrack was excellent!! I liked when Marcia and Chris Darden were dancing to "Who's that lady"! I liked the flirtation that was going on between them throughout the ep.!!:) ;) Apparently they really did have a little romance while the trial was going on! :)
As for the comedic relief, not so much last night ,but other weeks. Shapiro is being portrayed as a clown! There is no way the real Robert Shapiro could possibly be as goofy as John Travolta is playing him!! :D
http://flavorwire.com/565151/the-anti-nostalgia-of-american-crime-story-makes-it-tvs-best-period-piece-in-years
American Crime Story is the first ‘90s nostalgia show to actively change our perceptions of what happened 20 years ago, says Alson Herman. "The measured hindsight required for this kind of reevaluation, let alone one that operates on as many fronts as People v. OJ’s, feels like a direct result of the series’ secret ingredient: time. Set just 20 years ago, American Crime Story seems like an unlikely, or even preposterous, candidate for the title of “period piece”; our cultural memory of the ’90s, after all, is mostly stuck in the 'remember when' stage, complete with giddy BuzzFeed listicles and winking Shaq cameos on Fresh Off the Boat. But People v. OJ feels like a watershed moment — one of our first works of art to move beyond doe-eyed nostalgia into an unflinching look at what we got wrong.” PLUS: Christopher Darden’s daughter (http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-0313-darden-daughter-oj-trial-20160310-story.html): "Unlike my father, I'm watching the FX miniseries."

In addition to having a Seinfeld vs. Martin debate, Dave Schilling notes that last night’s episode referenced one of the "most enduring, peculiar elements of the hysteria around the Trial of the Century": The Dancing Itos from The Tonight Show. "The Dancing Itos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQPVA2bGsB4) represent not only the nation’s rapidly increasing tendency to mock the court proceedings, but also a certain level of contempt for Ito himself,” he says. Kenneth Choi tried to reach out to the real Ito, but the now-retired judge politely declined. "I had always thought of Ito as being very professional and very stoic, emotionless, almost robot-like with his speech and demeanor,” says Choi. Even though everybody knows what will happen in tonight’s extended American Crime Story season finale, creators Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander explained how they approached the final episode. “It was important to us that the last episode ends dramatically, but we also knew at the time that we were going to have to hint about what was going to happen afterwards,” Karaszewski tells The Hollywood Reporter. Actually I don't think Fox News was even around at the time of the trial. Fox News debuted in the fall of 1996.
And speaking of Fox News and the trial, I do not watch Fox News but learned recently Mark Fuhrman is a consultant or analyst for Fox News? You have got to be kidding me? But with people like Bill O'Reilly, Megyn Kelly and Sean Hannity, why should I be surprised.

Kim Goldman came under fire for telling her followers how they could get in touch with O.J. Simpson.
In all honesty, Fred & Kim Goldman got on my nerves after awhile. While I am certain they grieved for their son, they seemed to get caught up a little more in the limelight at the time. They both appeared to be "overly dramatical" at times and that came off as showy as opposed to authentic.
I've seen Kim Goldman in interviews and she is a little irritating. Again, the loss of Ron Goldman is tragic, but still.....

While I of course sympathize w/ the Goldmans, I as much it pains me to say it, do more than often find Fred and Kim's open grief a bit off-putting. The actor who they got to play Fred Goldman (Joseph Siravo, who previously played Johnny Boy Sorpano on The Sopranos) actually did a very good job channeling the real Fred's volume and energy. I guess in contrast to Nicole Brown's family members, Fred and Kim can seem rather brash.
Maybe it's easy to grow weary of them because they in the past 20 years, can't seem to channel their grief and anger into something more constructive or positive. Take for example, John Walsh or Marc Klaas, who lost their son and daughter, Adam and Polly, respectively in horrific manners. Or even Nicole's sister Denise, who has used her grief, to help victims of domestic violence. With the Goldmans, it just on the surface seems like that they've allowed OJ Simpson to continue to victimize them even though he's now in prison (no, not for what happened to Ron and Nicole, but still, it had something to do w/ the civil suit filed by the Goldmans).
I lost a lot of respect (http://www.lipstickalley.com/showthread.php/543238-Piers-Morgan-Now/page3) for Kim Goldman (http://www.lipstickalley.com/showthread.php/695017-I-could-have-killed-OJ-Ron-Goldman-s-sister-reveals-how-she-almost-mowed-Simpson-down-with-her-ca) when she went on CNN (https://archive.org/details/CNNW_20130719_070000_Piers_Morgan_Live) w/ Piers Morgan (http://piersmorgan.blogs.cnn.com/2013/08/01/piers-morgan-live-rewind-ron-goldmans-sister-discusses-ojs-parole-and-george-zimmerman-caught-speeding-and-carrying/) and commented about the Trayvon Martin (http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1307/18/pmt.01.html)-George Zimmerman verdict. Basically, she said that we should accept the verdict (even though unlike w/ OJ Simpson, where it was really circumstantial, it was "open and shut" that Zimmerman killed (https://twitter.com/tariqnasheed/status/715055198184583171) Martin) and that race (http://piersmorgan.blogs.cnn.com/2013/07/18/kim-goldman-on-the-zimmeran-trial-i-dont-believe-this-was-racially-charged/) had nothing to do w/ it.

Vahan 04-09-2016, 02:39 PM For anyone who may be accusing the Goldmans of being anti-black, they're not. They agreed to appear on Steve Harvey's talk show recently.
IllinoisTVFan 04-11-2016, 01:06 AM Ironically, I just finished watching this about an hour ago on my. I should mention at the time I was considering law school and the guy I was dating then was a producer at the big radio station running the trial and then a live talk back show afterwards.
This will probably be the only time I put Kardashian and moral and decent in the same sentence. Robert Kardashian was a much better guy than I realized. Unlike most of the other lawyers, he was in it because OJ was his friend. While I think OJ is guilty people stick with their friends because they don't want to think they are guilty. I had a friend like that and like him I walked away. I found it interesting there was a scene with his kids and he mentions being moral was more important than fame. He'd be ashamed of the girls.
The rest of the defense lawyers. Shapiro struck me as, well a lawyer. I didn't get the feeling he did it for the fame but rather a job. Cochran though, ugh he was a piece of work. Horrible guy, abusive, a cheater and race baiter if not a racist. F Lee Bailey was in it for the attention.
The prosecution. I think both Marcia Clark and Chris Darden were unfairly attacked. Darden was called an Uncle Tom and to me this wasn't about race. Clark was attacked by sexist remarks. In general both came off as good people. Unlike the other lawyers, they were portrayed as friends as well as coworkers.
The OJ (Cuba Gooding Jr)was to me better looking than the real OJ and not as creepy. He didn't look sneaky like the real one.
The Goldmans. My heart broke for them because they were the truly innocent. Nicole Brown was too but she made a choice to marry and stay with OJ at first. I doubt Ron Goldman even knew OJ.
IllinoisTVFan 04-11-2016, 01:19 AM For anyone who may be accusing the Goldmans of being anti-black, they're not. They agreed to appear on Steve Harvey's talk show recently.
They didn't strike me as racist. To me the only overt racist was Mark Fuhrman who was caught on tape. Johnny Cochran I'm not sure if he was racist per se but definitely a race baiter. He after all had a white girlfriend at one time. I hated they (the original case not the series) made it about race, when it wasn't.
http://nypost.com/2016/04/10/former-da-gil-garcetti-i-never-wanted-marcia-clark-on-oj-trial/
The 74-year-old Garcetti — the father of the Hollywood-friendly current mayor of Los Angeles (http://articles.latimes.com/2013/feb/16/local/la-me-adv-mayor-hollywood-20130217) — has only watched the first three episodes and has the rest of the season recorded. “They are making up the dialogue; it’s very misleading,” he tells the NY Post. Garcetti insists that he never wanted Clark to be the lead prosecutor. “She wasn’t my choice — I didn’t pick her,” he says. As for Simpson himself, Garcetti surprisingly thinks he got an unfair sentence for his armed robbery conviction. “If it were a white guy, a white Heisman Trophy winner . . . there’s no way that anyone else would have gotten 33 years for that,” he says.
IllinoisTVFan 04-11-2016, 11:21 PM I do think he got a harsh sentence for the robbery but I don't think it was because he's black. I think it's because many still think he's guilty.

The news that the Menendez brothers and JonBenet Ramsey would follow the true-crime path of The People v. O.J. Simpson and Making a Murderer begs the question of how much is too much. "It’s hard to ignore the public’s hunger for homicide,” says Jenn Wood, "but there are only so many Jeffrey Dahmers and Ted Bundys in this world. That’s a good thing for society at large. But for TV’s latest, hottest trend, it may predict a short, but violently entertaining, life.”

It'll be a change of pace from the junk reality shows and bitchy Housewives of such and such.
Yong Fang 04-12-2016, 08:02 AM Personally, I think a great story for them to do would be the arrest and trial of Jeffrey Dahmer, the cannibal sex serial killer in Milwaukee who killed 17 people.
This was a pretty decent documentary called "The Jeffrey Dahmer Files". It can be easily found on Youtube. I have seen it several times. This is the IMDB....
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1779076/
Part of it was some bad acting of Jeffrey Dahmer, who is not stalking or killing people and doing mundane activities. That can be skipped (or watched, I suggest you skip it....
What is interesting is the interviews with the late police detective Patrick Kennedy and a woman (African American) neighbor who lived across the hall who was an acquaintence of Dahmer. Kennedy was a recovering alcoholic who made a relationship with Dahmer through their long interviews, who had a rocky marriage which dissolved by the time the trial was over. Kennedy himself passed away of a sudden heart attack a few years ago which is sad because he seemed like a great guy who was a great storyteller. He is the one with the large handlebar mustache by the way.
The neighbor lady gave some great insight of what life was like the weeks and months after the arrest of Dahmer and having literally thousands of people and media from all over the World literally descend on this poor housing area. He was not in this documentary but Lionel Dahmer as the father who had to come to grips with what happened to his son and the trial and having to sit through said trial and meet and probably confronted with the victim's families. The there is Jeff Dahmer himself and what he went through.
I think this would be an excellent successor of this series.

I'm not necessarily accusing Kim Goldman or her family of being "anti-black" per se. In regards to her comments on the Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman situation, they just struck me as extremely naive, closed-minded (she doesn't want to realize the harsh reality that blacks, especially young black men are normally viewed differently or more scrutinized than whites) and hypocritical.

That could be changing now. In 20/20's special on O.J., last Fall, they revealed that 3/4 of Americans, including a majority of African-Americans, think he probably is guilty. Compared to 62% from over 20 years ago.

It wasn't that black people didn't think OJ was guilty.
They didn't care that he was guilty.
Killing white people and getting away with it was what made OJ a hero to blacks.

The whole thing about black people cheering is way more complex than that! It didn't necessarily have more to do with OJ Simpson than it did the feeling that the black community finally "got one over" on the LAPD. Bare in mind that the trial happened to too long after the Rodney King incident and the subsequent Los Angeles riots.
And if you're taking Jesse Jackson as a point of reference for how most black people think, then you pretty much haven't seen South Park (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/With_Apologies_to_Jesse_Jackson).

Are you seriously with that sort of broad generalization of one particular culture (what street do you live on)!? And since you don't watch South Park, the main point that it was trying to make was that Jesse Jackson doesn't represent or speak for all African-Americans (hence Token telling Stan that "Jessie Jackson isn't the emperor of black people!"). For example, when Michael Richards and Paula Dean made said those offensive terms about black people, they seemed to think that immediately going to Jesse Jackson would be the easiest route to make the situation "better".

They ran to Jesse Jackson because the media obsesses over incidents like that into a feeding frenzy until their careers are over or they apologized to (and paid off) Jesse Jackson. Once they caved in and apologized to Jesse the media would back off. Yet if you are one of the politically correct groups you can say anything you want and the media will leave you alone.

It seems like Kim and her family want to hold on to the narrative that if her brother had to die at least he didn't necessarily die in vain. In other words, Kim Goldman likes to say that Ron died a "heroic death". I've heard the theory that by the time that Ron showed up, Nicole was already dead and Ron tried to put up a valiant fight (he apparently practiced martial arts) against the killer.

http://ijr.com/2017/07/934833-ron-goldmans-father-wants-know-o-j-simpsons-kids-suddenly-buying-real-estate-cash/
Disgraced Pro Football Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson has been under increased scrutiny in light of his being granted parole for a 2007 armed robbery he was convicted of organizing. In particular, the matter of the millions he owes in a civil wrongful death judgment for causing the deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, has come up quite a bit.
Since Simpson was acquitted of criminal charges, the victims' families, particularly Goldman's, have long viewed collecting as the only way to properly punish him. Unfortunately for the Goldmans, Simpson moved to Florida in advance of the lawsuit, and as a result, the Sunshine State's laws that specifically protect things like pensions made it incredibly difficult for them to get anything out of him.
However, the New York Post reported (http://nypost.com/2017/07/31/o-j-simpsons-children-went-on-a-real-estate-spending-spree/) on Monday that there may be a new red flag in the Simpson family's finances. In the last two years, O.J.'s now-grown children with Nicole, Sydney and Justin, have bought 13 different properties without mortgages. Both are homeowners, but both of their personal dwellings, unlike the new acquisitions, do have mortgages.
It doesn't appear that the Simpsons have the cash to buy the buildings, so learning where the money came from and whether O.J. was involved could become a priority for the Goldman family's attorneys. The real estate holdings in question were purchased for a total of $549,100 between Justin and Sydney's companies.
The Simpsons did not respond to the Post's requests for comment, while the lawyer for Fred Goldman (https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/ron-goldmans-father-wants-to-know-how-o-j-simpsons-kids-are-suddenly-buying-real-estate-in-cash.1213528/), Ron's father, said that “[their] loss is no greater than Fred’s, but Fred’s loss should be no greater than theirs.” Sydney and Justin did not appear at their father's parole hearing, and neither did their half-brother Jason. Of the children, only Jason's sister Arnelle was present.
Yong Fang 08-03-2017, 04:47 AM This was a great miniseries and watched it faithfully every week and hated it when I had to wait a week. It really caught the essense of what happened and why did it happen the way it did.
The only two things that might take points away was that Cuba Gooding Jr., while a good actor was not really convincing as OJ Simpson. Then there is John Travolta, that some may not like. I thought he was Ok in this and he has the California vibe about him and did Shapiro well enough.
OJ was the central character, but he was actually too a minor character. The miniseries was about everyone else. Marcia Clark (who was really the central character here) Christopher Darden, OJ's lawyers, Johnny Cochran, Lance Ito, the Goldman's down to, which I found the most interesting, the jurors themselves and their difficulties. The jurors were sequestered, were not allowed to read outside material, see their family more than rarely, had to be together at all times or basically locked up in their rooms, like prisoners themselves. Eating the same, institutional Holiday Inn cooking day after day after day after day after day. Then there is the Seinfeld vs. Martin scene. I hate Martin, it's ghetto and stupid, but the majority were blacks, so they got to watch Martin and you could either watch it or get escorted back to your cell, I mean room to sleep since there is nothing else to do. This lasted for 9-10 months.
Fascinating work. I wish they would do one on Jeffrey Dahmer and have it again, look more on the angle of everyone else in his life, from his parents and family, the police, the lead detectives (one was named Patrick Kennedy who would be a major character), his neighbor he befriended in his last apartment, and the families of the victims.

I didn't watch this series at all but I did watch the real thing when it happened. Your comment about OJ being too minor a character is interesting because that's exactly what happened in real life. The fact that OJ was insanely obviously guilty was virtually ignored the entire trial. The best line I heard about it came a few days before the verdict from of all people, comedian David Brenner. He was on Letterman. He began by saying that Johnny Cochran was making some sort of argument and Marcia Clark objected, then Cochran objected about her objection, then Darden objected, then Shapiro objected and everyone was yelling at everyone else. Then right in the middle of all this OJ gets up from his seat and screams, "I can't take this anymore. I've had it. OK, I did it! Do you hear me, I did it!" Then everyone in the courtroom turns to OJ and says, "Did what?"
Kim said in an interview once her and her family became upset that all the attention was going to Nicole Simpson. Kim's line was, "My brother was murdered too." and they have taken it upon themselves to keep Ron's name before the public just as much as Nicole's. Also, the Goldman's were upset with some of the early allegations as to the nature of Ron & Nicole's relationship. Had they been lovers? I even recall rumors circulating that Goldman was an escort.
I'm pretty much bumping this in light of the recent news (https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/o-j-simpson-dead-at-76.5581807/post-100820729) of O.J. Simpson's passing and to provide of some additional context (https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/o-j-simpsons-estate-to-fight-any-payments-to-browns-or-goldmans.5584148/post-100883319) about what the Goldmans said about (https://www.reddit.com/r/OJSimpsonTrial/comments/1bmgxq1/why_do_people_act_like_fred_goldman_and_kim/) the George Zimmerman-Trayvon Martin (https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/44555-oj-made-in-america-part-5/?do=findComment&comment=2336024) case (https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/oj-keeps-tweeting-about-the-coronavirus.3296127/post-55652580):
