View Full Version : Johnny Carson on Antenna TV prevents me from seeing Three's Company and Jeffersons
TVFactFan 01-31-2016, 07:39 PM  Since it's 90 mins long I can only see one airing of Three's Company at 11:30pm and one airing of the Jeffersons at 1:30am. Does it really have to be 90 minutes long like it's live and today is 1974? How come they can't edit the show down to 60 mins like they edit sitcoms on the schedule?

People don't want to see it edited. I've seen Three's Company a million times, so watching a 90 minute 1970s Carson episode would be a welcome change in my life.

Doesn't make it right, if they show that Uncut then show everything uncut

That would be nice, but unfortunately I don't run a network. Uncut Carson episodes aren't a bad thing.

But it's not even listed who the guest are on tonight;s episode

Sorry. I'm sure it will be entertaining viewing anyway.

Not if the Guests are corny
BigManMike 01-31-2016, 10:00 PM I tried watching him once and I turned it off after about 5 minutes. I found it boring and unfunny. Maybe it appeals to the people of that generation but it didn't appeal to me at all. So I don't see any reason to ever watch Antenna TV again.

It's all about the guests, if I don't know the guests then the show is pointless
I know sherman hemsley was a guest on the tonight show but Bill Cosby was the host
TKMetal 01-31-2016, 10:28 PM Hmm... Johnny Carson shows that haven't been seen complete in decades or sitcoms that have never left TV?

Exactly.
Bonniegirl 01-31-2016, 10:42 PM I could see where you younger people would find it completely boring unless you particularly liked the guests that were on. Cause the monologue was usually poking fun at the world topics that were going on at that time, which if you weren't born yet or you were very young at that time than you wouldn't get the jokes!!! Plus lots of the jokes have to do with Los Angeles in particular, if a person doesn't live out here or never has been here, they might not get some of the jokes either regardless of their age! I agree that they should let us know in advance what guests are on!
Johnny Carson was made at a time when people had longer attention spans. It's a shame these days that normal discussions between human beings no longer interest some folks these days. Entertainers these days seem so over the top and don't seem like real people anymore. These days we think real people make for boring tv.
TVFactFan 01-31-2016, 11:49 PM The older white guy who is a guest right now I don't know who the hell he is and never seen him before:lol:

That is Lawrence Welk! I actually was watching for awhile! I switched over to Antenna and saw Joan Embery , the lady from the San Diego Zoo! (She is cool I LOVE when she is on);) I saw the cute Cheetahs and that little poisonous frog she had or whatever it was !:) And I watched Peter Falk,(he was Columbo, a popular show back than ,he was a cool guy) ) but I switched the channel on Lawrence Welk, I'm old but not THAT old, he didn't interest me!

Oh no!! I didn't mean that! I love Johnny Carson. I think he is the best talk show host of all time! ;) What I meant was the younger people would not get the jokes because they are dated and news topics from the old days! Nothing against Johnny, just the material is dated, and unless you were old enough than you wouldn't get it really watching it now ! ;)

Late last night I passed by, he was talking about snow in Buffalo and a drought in California. Sounded current to me...

The entire row of Guests I am looking at now I don't know who they are.
This other older white guy with glasses, don't know who he is
And the young white guy with his shirt open I don't know him either
MRPITT 02-01-2016, 12:31 AM I agree that they should let us know in advance what guests are on!
I love listening to the Monologue regardless of the guests.
My guide tells me who the guests are 2 weeks in advance.
BigManMike 02-01-2016, 12:31 AM Looking at the upcoming episodes on the Antenna TV website, more than half the guests I've never even heard of.
TVFactFan 02-01-2016, 12:47 AM Just looked at the schedule up until 2/13 and the only one that is interesting is
Tuesday Night, 2/2......Jay Leno and Fred Savage
icecream 02-01-2016, 01:51 AM Three's Company and The Jeffersons still get 2 episodes, they're from 11:30-1:30 between Carsons. I think Johnny is a great addition for Antenna. I was too young to see his original run but have seen a lot since Antenna started airing it. He's much better than any of the current late night hosts.

Oh so it's my stupid a$$ local Antenna TV who thinks people need to watch the news a 100 f*cking times a day
so I am missing out on
11:30-TC
12am-TC
12:30-TJ
1am-TJ

Adamantium 02-01-2016, 06:27 AM Hmm... Johnny Carson shows that haven't been seen complete in decades or sitcoms that have never left TV?
Not to mention sitcoms that are complete on DVD.

I always loved to hear about references that were before my time. It made me want to read up on them. Personally, I don't consider something being "before my time" as an excuse to dismiss it. But I've always been a history fan.

I'll agree with that. No editing please. I'm really enjoying seeing The Tonight Show that I grew up with. Besides I have the complete series of Three's Company and The Jeffersons on DVD. They are burning out Three's Company IMHO.

Too bad we don't get Attenna TV in Canada :( I still watch Lawrence Welk on PBS. I am 51. His core audience would be 120 years old now!

I wish my PBS station aired LW. I used to watch the show with my grandma. My PBS station doesn't show ANY classics. It really irks me that Mister Rogers' isn't on anymore...that show should ALWAYS be aired because it teaches children actually lessons instead of how to act stupid.

I agree 100%. How can they not show Mister Rogers Neighborhood on PBS? Our local PBS station does air Lawrence Welk on the weekend though.
icecream 02-16-2016, 05:22 PM the Johnny Carson guests I'm most interested in seeing the next two weeks
tonight Jerry Seinfeld
Thursday Jimmy Stewart
Saturday Steve Martin
next Tuesday Tom Hanks
a week from Sunday Jack Benny

I agree. It always annoys me when people automatically dislike something simply because it's "before their time". That actually makes it more interesting to me.
From Johnny's monologue tonight- " Donald Trump was in the news today…."
It doesn't get more current than that.

Must be from the 80's

They do that on their Facebook page. I am 29 and watch the last two years of Johnny Carson as a little boy with my grandmother. I am a history buff so I am sure I can jokes about the Vietnam War or Three Mile Island.

I'm into nostalgia and history! I love learning about events before I was born ! I didn't mean myself when I posted, I said it seemed a lot of young people might not be into it!
Nice that you are 29 and into History!;)
But it's still a shame for TVfactfan, Three's company and the Jefferson's are two of his favorite shows! :( I know I was a little upset when Johnny Carson bumped off my One day at a time weeknights! :( But they put it on in the afternoon, but to be honest, I wish they had left it on at night! ;)
Wikipedia says there are 6714 Tonight Show With Johnny Carson episodes. Is there a count of how many of these Antenna has run since they started back in 2016? I’ve heard they show a lot of the same ones over and over.
(I tried to find the Johnny is coming announcement thread but I can’t. This one is the closest I could find. Didn’t want to start a new one).
Marcus2026 08-02-2025, 12:07 AM Considering that the only episodes that survived were the 1972-1992 ones when he moved from New York to California, its those ones that usually keep airing. It doesn't help that because of these dastardly music rights, most musical performances are cut out of the episodes that originally featured them, alongside some that are very difficult to clear because of the aforementioned music rights issues or celebrity clearance issues.

Googles number of episodes is less than Wikipedia, at 4,531 episodes. Maybe they go with the surviving number. Yes edited, but going with that number, I wonder if Antenna has shown them all. With them repeating episodes I don’t think the math works out.
