View Full Version : "Hooneymoons are for the lucky"......
Krystle 04-08-2002, 12:36 PM I thought I have seen every episode, but not this one. Did anyone see this episode? I thought it was just the cutest one. Dick and Mary are really good actors, they make rob and laura, the most conviencing characters......It was funny how the honeymoon suite had signs everywhere, like "No rocking after 8pm" or Rob wearing those fake eyelashes "classic" and in the end, the sweetest thing, when Rob sweeps Laura off her feet.
Christina E 04-08-2002, 07:35 PM I love this episode. It is right up there in my favorite top five. I can never choose just one favorite, so I have about 5 that all tie for my favorite. This is my favorite flashback, though.

Kristina 04-12-2002, 04:32 PM hmm I don't think I've seen it yet, I'll be on the lookout for it on TV Land.
jamier42 04-12-2002, 06:20 PM I like that episode it is one of the best.
StrawberryFields 04-12-2002, 07:12 PM I know I've seen this episode. I'm just trying to place it. Wasn't it the one where they get married, but rob can't get a pass to be off for the honeymoon, so he leaves laura there in that goofy little hotel all by herself. But he finds a way to get away, somehow. Does he dress up like a girl? That'd explain the eyelashes comment. :D It's a great episode, anyway!

Yes, that's the one.
StrawberryFields 04-12-2002, 09:45 PM :D Thought so. Now that I think about it, several episodes of Dick van Dyke dealt with marriage. You have the actual honeymoon episode, the one where he leaves her at the altar multiple times for several different reasons, and the one where he finds out laura lied about her age, and they have to get married all over again. Are there any more?
dawsongirl 04-12-2002, 10:11 PM Now that you describe it, I think I have seen it. Very funny! :)

Although not directly related to marriage, there is the one where Rob tries to get two 3 day passes, one for his honeymoon, and one to go home and tell his other fiancé that he can't marry her. Then there is the two-parter when Stacey is there (the second time) and wants help on how to purpose to the woman he wants to marry. There are also many flashback episodes about Rob and Laura's courtship days, and the early years after they got married. Those are the only others I can think of.

StrawberryFields 04-12-2002, 10:26 PM The show had such great writers and actors. Taking one subject, and finding so many different things to do with it. And every episode is a masterpiece...

I totally agree. That's what makes it my favorite sitcom. It's just so good.
StrawberryFields 04-12-2002, 10:45 PM It's definitely my foavorite, too. I've never seen a show that can equal it. THe show just seems to have a certain magic about it, I guess you could say.
Christina E 04-12-2002, 10:48 PM I wish there were some way to go back in time and create more episodes. I understand why they stopped when they did, but 158 just aren't enough for me. I cried when I saw the last episode. I could have watched twice that many and still not be tired of the show. :talk:
StrawberryFields 04-12-2002, 10:53 PM Wew...I sure did misspell favorite. or at least typed it really badly. There are still a few episodes I have yet to see. SO are you an original fan? I fell in love with the show when it started coming on tv land. It's way before my time. But I still think it's the best.:D

No, I'm not an original fan...it was also quite a bit before my time. I'm only now in my 20s. I also became a fan (more of a freak) when we first got TV Land a little over a year ago. From the first day I saw it, I immediately set my VCR to record it every day. It took me about 8 months to get every single episode (TV Land occasionally skips). My roommate thought I had flipped out I was so addicted. Now I'm better, although I still watch it a lot.

StrawberryFields 04-12-2002, 11:05 PM I'm 16. But hey, if you're gonna flip over something, make it good! Like DVD!

I'm surprised at how young some of the fans are on here! I'm only 20 myself, I thought I was the only young one here. It's nice to know I'm not alone.
StrawberryFields 04-13-2002, 05:06 PM yeah, you aren't alone. =) Today's tv just isn't the same. So I tend to watch older stuff, tv shows, and I like 60's music better, too.:D
Christina E 04-13-2002, 10:28 PM It seems to me like we are not alone. I have met many other young people (mostly on this site) that like the classics better.
My sister doesn't like classic TV shows because she says they move to slow. One plot debated for a whole 30 minutes? That's her idea of boring. I have almost never found them boring. I know that there are many others out there like me, and it's actually a lot of us that are keeping stations like TV Land in business.
offtopic: This is off topic, but do any of you also like classic family movies, especially Disney ones? Lately I've been watching old Disney live-action movies from the 60s and 70s, such as Misadventures of Merlin Jones, The Monkey's Uncle, Freaky Friday, Beach Party, The Shaggy Dog, That Darn Cat (the old one), and others. I vaguely remember some of them from watching them on TV as a child, but I've been rediscovering that they are actually pretty good, although somewhat dated. Do any of you like them?

Same here, and I'm 22.
And Christina, I remember some of those movies. They have a certain kitsch charm to them. And they also seem to have better morals to them. Some of the "family movies" of today aren't really family movies.
Kristina 04-14-2002, 04:58 AM I like TV from 50's-Current, but I prefer classic shows MUCH better, the comedy isn't the same no as it was then. Now it's too vulgar and every show has to do with sex practically. :o

It seems like we have another thing in common. I'm a big Annette Funicello fan. I love all of the movies she appeared in for Disney and all of those beach party flicks even though they are cheesy ( it must be the nostalgia).
