Have never seen Svengoolie, though I am familiar with who he is (and the original). But am a huge horror fan and have seen all the films you listed.

Growing up my horror hosts were Elvira, and Captain USA (from USA Network), we didn't have a local horror host, unfortunately, the closest we had was a local car dealer who would introduce movies (mainly horror) weekday afternoons on our local CBS.

If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend the documentary American Scary, it's about the history of American horror hosts.

I'm a fan. He's playing "The Wolf Man" tonight, and between 10:15 and 10:25 tonight ET, he inserted a brief clip from a Shemp-era Three Stooges.

I agree, some of his movies are great like "Frankenstein", "Bride of Frankenstein", "The Invisible Man", "The Shadow of the Cat", "Boy Who Cried Werewolf", etc. but he definitely makes them better with his bits!

Has anybody seen the 1943 "Phantom of the Opera", either originally or on Sven? Does it differ/is it more creepy than the 1962 one we saw in March? I'm talking about the one with Claude Rains and I think Lon Chaney, Jr. as well but I could be wrong about that. But (and don't get me wrong; I loved the Phantom of the Opera 1962!) I do love creepy movies, and I don't think the 1962 one was creepy enough for my tastes. Is the 1943 one creepier? Sven talked about how the 1962 one was made for general audiences, so the 1943 one could be creepier. I'd like to know. I haven't seen the 1943 one yet on his show so I'm hoping it'll pop up soon.

I'm a comedy movie fan, so the Abbott and Costello films are my favorites among the ones Sven (Rich) shows.

I also have some favorite Svensurround sounds, like crashing glass every time a car door is slammed, or the Beavis & Butt-head giggling...

I like the Chicago area jokes, like "Svenards" as a take-off on the home-improvement chain Menard, or "Skokie Vice" (Miami Vice).

The thing that made me laugh hardest: showing the soap-bubble robot from a sci-fi film with Sven singing "When I start bubbling, I'm like Lawrence Welk!" :)

Yes! I used to catch Chicago stations 2, 5, 7, 9, and 11 with a rooftop antenna. So -- much later, when I got MeTV, Sven was already very familiar to me.

There were other song parodies that had me laughing. My memory has diminished with age, but I'll post some if I think of 'em.

THREE weeks straight of new movies!

Anybody here seen or heard of for that matter, Gargoyles? I'm hoping that with Gargoyles and Duel (I know he showed the theatrical version of Duel), Sven will get more into the 70s made-for-TV horror movies so we can look forward to more of those. Also, An American Werewolf in London is definitely on my wish list for him to show.

Svengoolie was airing in 2008, that must've been when the listings started because many of the Universal movies he first showed in 2008 but he started in 1995 locally & 2011 on MeTV. Hope that answers your question!

That's the dates of when the shows aired, not when the movies were made. It Came from Outer Space, airing tomorrow, did last air 9/16/17 and Revenge of the Creature last aired 9/22/18.

I'm predicting that this year Svengoolie will bring back 1950s Universals like Tarantula, The Deadly Mantis, The Incredible Shrinking Man, and Monolith Monsters but I also think he'll certainly bring back other favorites like The Invisible Man, Abbott and Costello films, The Invisible Man Returns, and potentially (hoping) for Duel. It sounds like Dinosaurus!, The Mad Magician (w/Vincent Price), and Gargoyles are basically confirmed for this year on Sven via his social media posts. I'd love for him to show movies like Jason and the Argonauts, Mysterious Island, & First Men in the Moon but they're far too long for his timeslot and MeTV won't give him an extra half hour to show them as of now, sadly.

So February 1st is "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" with Don Knotts on Svengoolie, last shown July 2018 so about a year and a half between showings. February 8th is "The Son of Kong" (1933) which is new to his show.

3/28 is now Village of the Damned and not Curse of Frankenstein. Svengoolie's production has been postponed because of the virus. Curse of Frankenstein WILL be shown on Svengoolie though! I'm holding off on posting anything from April because I don't know if these shows that I know about have been changed. I'll post once Svengoolie's newsletter comes out.

He showed it last July so it's bound to be coming up again before too long. Good movie. If you see it from your library, you're seeing the uncut version whereas Svengoolie showed an edited-for-time version.

Due to the Coronavirus, Svengoolie will be showing repeats ("encore performances", as he puts it) until further notice because production has halted. The schedule is 4/04--The Mummy's Tomb (Universal) 4/11--This Island Earth and 4/18--Dracula's Daughter (also both Universal.)

Production for Sven has halted because of the Coronavirus and the Illinois lockdown has extended to May 31st so we're probably not going to see new Sven shows until June at the earliest. He hinted at "The Thing from Another World" for later this year.

I'm guessing next year we'll be seeing movies like Children of the Damned, House on Haunted Hill, The Fly (w/Vincent Price), The Bat, etc. We'll have to see, but those are my predictions.

"We move into another month featuring a couple classics we’ve brought back, as well as a couple titles that are new to our show! We start off with “The Black Scorpion” — a 1957 film with another giant arachnid. Not a tarantula this time, but a scorpion! It has features stop-motion animation supervised by Willis O’Brien of “King Kong” fame, and one of our favorite leading ladies, Mara Corday who also spent time with the “Tarantula”. Then, it’s the first two features in Universal’s “Invisible Man” series — the original with Claude Rains, and the follow-up with Vincent Price. We round out the month with “Devil Doll” — but WAIT! Before we get the uninformed whining “oh, you just showed that a few months ago” — this is NOT the film featuring Lionel Barrymore in drag! This is a 1964 British film, in which the Devil Doll is a ventriloquist dummy under the control of an evil hypnotist. We will continue to mix up our schedule between classics and some of the “drive-in” variety of films for which viewers have been hankering!

Another word about our schedule — often, we will get suggestions from viewers that we should show a film that features a star who has just passed away, or that has a plot that echoes something happening in the news right now. We would love to do that, but, unfortunately, we have to set our movie schedules at least a year in advance in order to get the broadcast rights to the films from the distributors. We don’t own a whole library of films, like some of the cable networks that can run titles whenever they want because they have ownership of them."

Svengoolie schedule for August on page 1. Biggest surprise is the Vincent Price classic original House on Haunted Hill from the 1950s, where, even though it's fallen into the public domain, Svengoolie and Me-TV have procured a HD mastered print to show. Nice!

As for the fall, Svengoolie has mentioned 3 movies in a video on YouTube shot from his Flashback Weekend appearance this past weekend: AIP movies War of the Colossal Beast and the Blood of Dracula (new-to-the-show, both of them) and the Universal Bela Lugosi classic Dracula. Should be an interesting fall season for Svengoolie and hopefully he mixes in more AIP movies like The Abominable Dr. Phibes/Dr. Phibes Rises Again, The Thing with Two Heads, Zontar: The Thing from Venus, etc.

I agree. Like I said, I enjoy a few AIP films and like that I have had the opportunity to view them on Svengoolie but the vast majority I do not like for varieties of reasons but the Universals I mostly like, along with the Hammers.

I noticed ever since the Universal Monster channel launched on PlutoTV, Svengoolie has been showing more movies from the MGM-UA library.

Goolie currently has access to MGM films, Warner Brothers, Columbia/Tristar thru Sony & the Universals. He shows one or two Universals most months of the year.

Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes is so bad, that it is unwatchable. I wish he put more effort into picking up the Val Lewton produced horror movies.

Some interesting choices for March. I am wondering if the Sven Squad will eventually get to host a censor version of Halloween 3

Looks like ME-TV caved & will start showing edited R-rated movies starting with PUPPET MASTER 1989.

So far, ME-TV won`t show R-rated movies. Unlikely HALLOWEEN III would get a pass.
But I did notice Goolie used some blurring in THE MONSTER CLUB. First time that has happened for a movie on ME-TV. However, TMC was released as unrated in the US.

The Puppet Master (1989) is rated R.

Would have been more impressed, if they could have acquired the original Dawn Of The Dead. I consider Dawn the best of the 4 original George Romero Zombie movies.

I don`t even see why they are showing DAY OF THE DEAD. On ME-TV you know it will be cut to ribbons & the language sure won`t pass muster.
