Whenever I really become enamoured of a show, I always try to watch it from the beginning. And , with only a few exceptions, have been doing that with WINGS. Q: Would it be bad to skip from from S3 into S5? My library had S#s 1-2-3-5 so I immediately checked all out. They didn't have 4. If I do this, what important story lines/ plots would I miss from skipping S#4? And maybe I might get lucky and it might be back by the time I finish S#3-but just in case-fill me in!

(I may end up buying the series. Best Buy had it for $30 but it was only 16 DVDs- which makes me suspect there's recording on both sides-Which I hate. But I L-O-V-E this show so much I may end up buying it. And that's a HUGE compliment to the show- itwould be the 5th show where I have everything)

The only thing bad I have to say about the show is that there are only 172 eps. Every time I watch it I wish it were 11,172. It truly is a sweet, funny and endearing show.

Season four is a pretty big season, actually, story-wise. I think it's just best to watch 4 before 5. I mean, I guess you wouldn't be totally lost starting with season 5 but there are a couple of story archs that wouldn't be the same watching it in reverse. When you do see season 4, you're in for a treat. I think it's the best season.

BTW, I'm loving how much you love this show. "Wings" doesn't seem to get too much attention these days - even on these boards anymore - so it's nice to see someone genuinely enjoying the show for the first time. You're kind of getting me interested in the show again.

My preference is to watch the Seasons in order. But I'd hate to not watch S5 because I don't have S4.

I just finished watching the S2 ep where Joe gives Helen his mother's cameo (the gift giving ep where that ratfink Brian once again upstages Joe(until the end anyways). I'm beginning to notice that the endings seem to end on a sweet tender note.

I'm totally addicted. I had to go out and do some food shopping, and while I was doing that I was thinking how much I can hardly wait to get back and watch more eps. I guess that makes me a hard core fan.

I don't have the complete series, I bought the season sets when they came out, but from what I read the complete series set uses single sided discs. I'd buy it. For $30 that's a great deal and about how much I paid for each season of Wings. Read reviews about the video quality first if that's a concern. Seasons 2-6 are essential, IMO. Lots of great episodes during season 4.

Well, there are 172 eps so that'd mean 10-11 eps per disc. That sounds like they'd be double-sided, which I really dislike. But $30 is a fantastic price so I'm going to check this set out further.

This is sneaky, but if you've never subscribed to Hulu, you could sign up for the free trial, watch WINGS season 4 and then cancel. They don't have all the episodes though so you're probably better off just springing for the complete set.

I don't have the Mill Creek box set for "Wings" but I do have the "Roseanne" one. It has more seasons (thus more episodes & discs) and it's all single sided discs. I would imagine "Wings" is too.

I only have an iPad and analog TV with a converter box, otherwise I'd consider Hulu. But it will take me a while to get to the end of S3, so maybe S4 will show up in the library before I finish S3. I'm praying nobody puts a hold on this, since I only have these until Monday.

I have a few complete series sets from Mill Creek and they were all single sided discs. They like to cram a lot of episodes on a disc sometimes though. I know they put 13 episodes on each single sided disc on a few of the Married With Children season sets.

That's good to know that you can get many eps on a side. Because I really LOVE this show and would hate to have them on double-side recorded discs; my Reba eps came that way and it just feels so cheesy- and I absolutely DO NOT want cheesy DVDs of a show I adore.

I understand. Some of my favorite shows that I have on DVD (Bob Newhart, Dallas, Dukes) have double sided discs and it gets to be a pain sometimes to have to flip them over and they are more prone to fingerprints and dust.

Your right. In the Mill Creek complete series, there's 16 total discs ,averaging about 10 episodes for each disc. And only costs a mere $30 for the whole set. So if you want to own the whole Wings series for cheap, this set is for you. The only issues I came across were: Slightly bad video quality, Too many episodes on 1 disc, absolutely no extras.

If it's not double-sided I'm going to look into it -16 discs are pretty easy to store in a wallet.

I saw that ep yesterday. But in this ep you gotta give Roy some credit, Lowell as a team-mate could drive anyone crazy. And Roy did make an effort to be less obnoxious. But then again, Roy being Roy, obnoxiousness runs so rampant in his gene pool, that a regression to his old noxious self was kinda inevitable.

Yeah, Antonio was an add-on character, starting with season three.

He just showed up in a tail end S2 ep, playing a head waiter in a fancy Itslian restaurant. It was the ep where Helen and Joe get the meeting place for their Evening Valentine's date all screwed up.

Oh man Adam, I am so in love with this show. Do you have the 16 disc ep set from Mill Creek? If you do, is the quality decent? And just confirming they are all one sided.

Yeah, Antonio did just that one episode in season two. I guess they all liked him and so they brought him back for the next season.

I don't have the complete box set. I bought them as they came out originally from Paramount. I do, however, have seasons 3 & 4 from Mill Creek I bought to have an extra set to keep out in my car for my portable DVD player and sometimes watch it (or NewsRadio) on my break at work. Those discs are single sided and the quality is fine. To be honest, I didn't think the quality was that great for the Paramount sets and they didn't have bonus features or anything, so it seems like buying the Mill Creek ones is the way to go.

$30 is hard to beat for an entire series you love. I'm finishing up S2 and have S3 to work through. So I have some time to decide but I'm probably going to do it. But I want to see if I can find it in a store first. I know I'm quirky, but I hate buying things online; 99.999% I get stuff in a store.

I have a friend who won't buy things online. It makes it easier for me to get him a Christmas present because I just buy something online I know he's unable to find in stores, lol.

What did you think of the short first season? I always found it kind of boring. I love seasons two through seven and eight is alright but it shifts in tone a bit but one was just dull to me. Luckily it was only 7 episodes (I count the season two episode "There's Always Room for Cello" as a season one episode since that's when it was produced.)

If you are a Wings fan it's worth to have the complete set. Early eps we were introduced to the characters and developed quickly and learned to love them. The writing and humor were outstanding. The main characters had a sad story growing up and writers were brilliant to show how the characters were affected with their behaviour especially Joe who became so uptight and Helen was still insecure with herself. I would say Wings is one of the sitcom ever!!!

The complete series is probably the best option if you want to see all the episodes. If you buy some of the later seasons individually they can be expensive since a few of them are out of print and likely difficult to get through the library. I don't know if you get Antenna TV, but I've heard they will be airing Wings later in 2016 if you want to wait for it.

Oh Wow! Really! I get Antenna and I'll send them an email to find out the exact start date. I find that I still get decent quality even at SLP- which means 12 eps to a disc. But I may end up buying it anyways. $30 is real cheap. Thx for the heads up Skywalker!

Oh God, there are so many; it's like searching through a collection of diamonds to find the best ones. But, off the top of my head, I really like the eps with Kenny (shame he didn't become a semi-regular character IMO) and "Murder She Roast" was a hoot.

I really liked the Second Season the best of the first three. And there were great eps in each, so I got to think about my favorites. This Old House was a nice ep, and I did like it, but I wouldn't call it my favorite one of the 50 eps I've seen so far.

OH Nuts!
01-14-2016, 01:09 AM
Well, since my last post, I went through the ep list for the first three seasons and 14 of the 50 really jumped out at me; it's just so hard to pick only one or two.

But, eliminating a few of these, my very favorite eps were: "Das Plane", "Trains, Planes, and Visiting Cranes", "Ladies Who Lunch", "My Brother's Keeper, "Murder She Roast", "My Brother's Back And There's Going To Be Trouble", "Hell Hath No Fury Like A Policewoman Scorned", "It's Not The Thought It's The Gift"and "A Stand Up Kind Of Guy"

Actually, if I have to pick one I vote "Trains, Planes, and Visiting Cranes" - Lilith was outrageously funny.
