View Full Version : How Often Had Twins Been Depicted?
"Please Don't Eat The Dasies" had two real life twins playing as Trevor and Tracy (if I recall their names right).
"Family Affair " depicted a boy and a girl as twins , Buffy and Jody, (Anissa Jones and Johnny Whittaker respectively) but in real life they were not related and probably not the exact same age
.
Of course Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush (if I have their names right) were twin child actors who took turns playing one character, the youngest daughter in the Ingalls family on "Little House On The Prarie"
And there was an episode of Partridge Family in which identical twins (and nephews of crooner, Andy Williams), Andy and David Williams, played themselves . The two weren't actors but singers and were only mildly popular at the time though they were often promoted in teen magazines as being upcoming teen idols.
However it seems that only in " Please Don't Eat the Dasies " were actual twin actors used to play twins and be among the regular characters.
By the way I have read on sitcomsonline.com that The Partridge Family seems to be a copy of The Brady Bunch, but then it seems that the e Brady Bunch could be a copy of Please Don't Eat The Dasies.

Interesting. Thanks for the replies, people.
I stopped watching a lot of TV in the mid- 80s . So I don't know a great deal about TV shows of the late 80s on.
I have heard a bit about the twin boys who played on "Full House "but I think they were the ones who alternated on the role of the young boy on the movie "Big Daddy" and I did not know the name of the TV show they played in. I heard that they were among the wealthiest kid actors along with the kid who p!ayed Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) but I recently heard that they went bankrupt and one of the twins is working as a busboy in a restaurant

Yeah, it was Dylan and Cole Sprouse that were in Big Daddy and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. I didn't realize that they went bankrupt. That's sad.

Maybe "Bankrupt" may not be the exact word to use, but there is a short mention on YouTube that the twins seem to have eventually hit economic hard times.

It looks like twins have been depicted more often on TV than I realized. (I forgot to mention that twin baby and toddler boys took turns playing "Joey" in "All in The Family").
However except for "Buffy" and "Jody" in "Family Affair" and maybe "Winnie" and "Nelson" in "The Cosby Show" (and I rarely watched The Cosby Show, so I am not familiar with the characters) it seems that overwhelmingly, twins have been portrayed as being identical, and of the same gender. Of course, "Buffy" and "Jody" were not really twins in real life. I don't know about "Winnie" and "Nelson," but if they were not real twins, has there ever been a case of a true male and female twin being on a TV series (or maybe other than "Winnie" and "Nelson"?
Furthermore, twins seem to be depicted mostly (or only) as preteens up to their mid teens, in that order.
Any TV shows with twins in their 20s , 30s or even in elderly twins?
I guess it is because children who are twins are considered "cute."

I realize that it's animation, but I think Patty and Selma from The Simpsons are in their 40's. And there ain't nothing cute about Patty and Selma!

If soap operas count, I know "Days of Our Lives" had Marlena Evans and Samantha Evans. They were played by real-life twins Deidre Hall and Andrea Hall born in 1947.

Well it is a matter of opinion. that is why I use terminology such as "It is considered
to be cute"
However thanks for poining out that there have been twins on TV past their teens even if it was only cartoon characters.
And there ain't nothing cute about Patty and Selma!

Does Barbara Cooper know you find Patty & Selma attractive? :D
biffbronson 12-22-2015, 02:35 AM The Todd Triplets appeared on My Three Sons, playing the triplet sons of Katie & Rob Douglas (late '60s to 1972).

The Lawrence Welk Show featured the male identical Otwell Twins (Roger & David), from the late 1970s until the end of the original broadcast run (1982).

gidgetgrape 12-22-2015, 02:54 AM Real-life twins Conrad and Bonar Bain were on "Maude."

gidgetgrape 12-22-2015, 03:12 PM The Borden Twins, Rosalyn and Marilyn, were guests on several shows including CHiPs, Maude and The Ropers. I think their most famous guest appearance was on "I Love Lucy" as Teensy and Weensy in "Tennessee Bound."

I guess it is relevant in its own way. It is something how sometimes one actor plays two roles (such as Patty Duke) and sometimes two actors play one role such as the twins who played the youngest Ingall sister in Little House On The Prarie.
I guess it is harder to find identical triplets who can act .

gidgetgrape 12-22-2015, 07:33 PM I just remembered another set of twins on "The Cosby Show." When Rudy had a slumber party ("The Slumber Party" #22), there was a set of twins playing a hand-clapping game while Cliff watched. There names were Dana and Kyle Bryant.
Also more fake twins:
Brandon (Jason Priestly) and Brenda (Shannen Doherty) on "Beverly Hills, 90210" were twins.
Dove Cameron plays identical twins on "Liv and Maddie" on The Disney Channel.

How about the Mayer twins, Michael and Joe who played little Ricky in I love Lucy.
I never knew that twins played "Little Ricky."
When I was watching "I Love Lucy" in the 60s it was in re-runs already.
I think I mostly saw the episodes in which Lucy and Desi Arnaz did not have a child yet. So I was only mildly familiar with his character.
D-Dey 12-26-2015, 12:46 PM Dove Cameron plays identical twins on "Liv and Maddie" on The Disney Channel.
However, there were real twins named Abby and Tate Chapman who played younger versions of the main characters in the episode "Flashback-A-Rooney."

While we're on the subject of Disney-related TV shows, there was an episode where some girl who tried to go out with PJ and Emmett turned out to be twins, but I forgot which one it was.
gidgetgrape 12-27-2015, 02:10 AM Going back to the 1980s: Heather and Erica Farrell from Degrassi Jr. High and Degrassi High. Their characters were portrayed by twins Maureen and Angela Deiseach.
According to the Degrassi Wiki, there were also other twins in the franchise:
Heather and Erica Farrell were the first set of twins in the Degrassi Franchise. The second set were Declan and Fiona Coyne. The third set were Bo and Ingvar Andersson. The fourth set were Frankie and Hunter Hollingsworth.
Wow.

Yes, Lisa Kudrow played both Phoebe and Ursula Buffay. Ursula was introduced on Mad About You and when Friends debuted we found out that Phoebe had a twin sister, Ursula. Friends decided to parallel the two characters from both shows. It was like a crossover between the two shows. I thought that was a genius idea. Lisa played both roles really well.

I remember once on MAD ABOUT YOU Paul & Jamie were talking to Ursula and they asked her "So, what's new?" and Ursula said she's moving from her apt. and would be living with someone else until she fins a new place. So they asked where she'll be staying and she said "With Friends." The audience laughed HILARIUSLY! (I wish this had a spell-check; cause I know I spelled that wrong):)
