This was a show was about two people being married without kids and never ever talked about having kids at all. Single Income without kids since Bob was the breadwinner and that's why I like the show so much
I would be more for the DINK Lifestyle, Double Income No kids:lol:

Bob and Emily talked about adopting a baby in "P-I-L-O-T" in season one. They even had a woman from the adoption agency inspect their apartment. It's sort of a weird episode because nothing happens in the end.

Why was adoption mentioned instead of them making one?

Bob says that they had been trying to conceive, but nothing had happened after 3 years. Bob mentions this to Jerry and he tells Bob they should try to adopt. Jerry is adopted. Then Bob and Emily go to a party and feel out of place because everyone is talking about their kids. Emily tells everyone that they are going to have a kid too - the next morning when the adoption agency opens. Emily reasons they can get a baby right away and have one on their own later. Bob wanted to wait and have one on their own.
Also, you know Emily works right? She's a teacher. So, they are dinkers.

I agree with what you are saying! I'm glad the writers showed that life can be fulfilling without children. I think "P-I-L-O-T" was a misfire and I'm glad they didn't pursue that direction.

they wanted the Hartlys to have a baby in the last season, but when they told Bob he said "Fine, but who are you going to get to play my part?"

From imdb, a slight variation, but the same story
>>>In the sixth year of Newhart's CBS series, The Bob Newhart Show (1972), the writers wrote a script in which Emily Hartley was pregnant. When Newhart was asked his opinion of the script, he said, "It's very funny. Who are you going to get to play Bob?".<<<
