View Full Version : Is CBS going to show another colorized episode this Christmas?.
Frank Gannucci 10-31-2015, 09:59 PM Usually, by this time the last two years we got told that CBS is going to pair the newly colorized ILL Christmas Special with another newly colorized one. I hope that CBS didn't decide to not do one this year. That would be a shame.

Yes, CBS will be airing another colorized episode this Christmas.
OH Nuts! 11-01-2015, 01:00 PM I know lots of people go Gaga over colorized versions; but for me any of the 50s eps are even more special to me in their original b&w. But I am glad that both options are available so that those who want the color can have it.
Frank Gannucci 11-01-2015, 02:11 PM Thank you LittleRicky. Which one will get the colorized treatment this year

I like the B&W more, too BUT I love that the colorization is bringing the show to a whole new generation. Truly, everyone STILL loves Lucy and the youngsters are now being introduced to her. Let's face it, kids nowadays won't watch ANYTHING that isn't in color.

I don't know if I'm at liberty to say at this point. I will give this hint: It's an episode that one would expect to see colorized.

I agree. I used to be not too much in favor of colorizing, but when I saw the colorized "L.A. at Last" a few months ago -- in particular the bit where Fred enters wearing that crazy shirt -- seeing that shirt in color made it much funnier. I don't think I ever laughed out loud at that bit until I saw it in color a few months ago.
Frank Gannucci 11-02-2015, 11:53 PM Thank you. I think I know the episode.

I think you do, too. ;)
ChrisTV 11-03-2015, 10:42 PM would love to see the Westport, Ct home in color.
I think the tulips or the BBQ episode would be best.
Well, it's officially announced:

mets82 11-05-2015, 06:50 PM Thats ok. I actually like the black and white episodes better just because I'm used to them, I guess. The I Love Lucy on CBS for Christmas seems like a new Christmas tradition? No?

"Lucy Raises Tulips" is one of my favorite episodes!

This is good news! That means the episode will most likely be available in color on DVD soon!

If I had to guess, it'll probably be included on the season 3 Blu-ray set when it's released.
I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for "The Freezer" to get the color treatment! That's my all-time favorite Lucy episode!
retrofan05 11-06-2015, 03:32 PM would love to see the Westport, Ct home in color.

Was just thinking the same thing! :)
dave in the basement 11-06-2015, 03:38 PM I'd prefer the black and white episodes, but I'm just glad that people are enjoying the episodes and they are continuing to play them around the holidays. Now we need to expand to Halloween, Thanksgiving, Easter, etc.

That is a shame because color is not the end all or be all for me. There's just something really special about seeing the ILL eps in vintage b&w.
But if color gets more viewers than hooray for color. For some the color is really important, so I'm glad it exists as an option.
BigManMike 11-07-2015, 01:43 PM I will certainly be watching. I love watching colorized episodes of I Love Lucy at Christmas. I can't wait to see what other episodes will be colorized or if they will colorize the entire series at some point.
CBS is airing it later this year than the last two years, and, I'm guessing, just the one airing?
Also- am I reading that right, that the Christmas episode- including the flashback scenes- will be *all* color?

Yes, the flashback scenes will be in color, too.
tlc38tlc38 11-12-2015, 12:19 AM ^That'll be awesome to see the flashback scenes in color!!
Hazel Anyday 11-19-2015, 09:33 PM Ooooo, how I'd love to see this ENTIRE series colorized. I can almost taste it. I sure wish Columbia would get of their b/w butts and get it done already. At one new color episode a year I'll have to live to 200 to see the entire series. I don't think I'll make it.:( While you're at it get the measly 39 Honeymooner episodes colorized too, surely that's a possibility. I'm old but I love shows in color and sad but true, kids today won't even watch something in b/w. I have 2 nephews who love the color ILL, but don't want to watch the b/w ones. Frustrating, but true. I love color versions over b/w too but if I wait for all my favorites to be colorized I'll have a long wait.

"Lucy Does a TV Commercial will be the third episode colorized this year.
Reminder----- on tonight.
William Hogan Jr 12-23-2015, 10:19 PM I just finished watching the special. I think they did a great job on it. The Christmas episode was just cut a little, "Lucy Does a Tv Commercial" I didn't notice any cuts. If they did cut it, it was barely noticeable. To my surprise they showed a long lost scene that is on the DVD releases, where Lucy on her TV is doing the old Phillip Morris commercial. I really enjoyed the special. What are your thoughts?
BigManMike 12-23-2015, 10:41 PM I unfortunately missed the first half of the first episode because there was some bad weather and tornadoes several miles away from me in Mississippi in another part of my viewing area, so the weatherman kept talking even when the bad weather was just about gone. No big loss on that one though, since I've seen it the past two years, although I did miss the colorized flashback scenes. The Vitameatavegimin episode was great and I was kind of surprised too to see the Philip Morris cigarette references left in too like I had seen on the DVD. It's also nice they have new closing credits very similar to the original ones used and I'm glad CBS shows them unlike the Scrooges at Antenna TV.
mets82 12-23-2015, 10:59 PM I didn't watch it. I was watching WWE Tribute to the Troops and The Simpsons. Was it good?
tlc38tlc38 12-24-2015, 12:37 AM Watching the colorized Christmas special has become a mini tradition for my mom and I. We enjoyed it very much this year and look forward to more!
I want to see "The Freezer" in color!
Only complaint: Did they have to plasture that ad for "Angel from Hell" at the bottom of the screen during the episode? Advertising such trash during a wholesome program is ridiculous.
ILuvCarolBurnett 12-24-2015, 01:12 AM They need to start releasing the seasons in color and soon.
biffbronson 12-24-2015, 03:27 AM Exceptionally good color for this episode, I thought. I was a little surprised that one of Desi's dress shirts was depicted in light blue, but haven't compared with the original to see if that was appropriate.
Kudos to CBS for continuing to put Lucy in primetime via these episodes, and now the same for Andy Griffith.
It's too bad that NBC and ABC don't seem to have interest in their histories. Both networks had numerous Christmas shows that could be dusted off, including several Christmas episodes of ABC's The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.

CBS owns these shows.
Coffeecup 12-25-2015, 10:24 PM I have a bit of difficultly seeing the doors with the two tone gray look. Doors in my house in the 50's were all white. Lucys hair was really orangey red. I didn't care for the olive drab curtain in the commercial room. "Joe is it hot in here?? I do prefer the shows in black and white but it is a nice change to see what colorization can do. It may cost a bit to do the coloring so they may not push to do too many shows at once.
comedyfreak 12-26-2015, 10:48 PM I watched and enjoyed the whole hour still made me tear up.
