Okay, I'm just wondering which station you prefer watching GI on. Although I don't think Nick shows GI anymore, I have a lot of my episodes on tape from Nick and now I'm getting the rest from TBS. Some of the episode I've recorded twice - one from Nick and one from TBS - and in my opinion it seems Nick does a better job of editing the episodes than TBS. There are many times where you can tell TBS cut a scene because it's too "choppy" or there is no transition between scenes or one of the characters says something that makes no sense (when in reality they are referring to an edited scene.)

Does that all make sense or did I just confuse everyone?

Nick at Nite got rid of GI, but it also airs on TV Land.

Oh yes...TV Land... Sorry I never mentioned that one... It slipped my mind because I don't get TV Land right now - only Nick and TBS.

Hmm...good question. I like watching them on both b/c the editing is different. There are some eps that I like the TV Land version better and some that I like the TBS version.
I wish some station would show them unedited!

Yes! I completely agree! It would be nice to the see the entire episode the way it was meant to be. But if they're going to have to edit something, I'd like them to do some decent editing, at least so I can't tell that parts are missing. And this doesn't necessarily refer to just these TV stations. I've seen other shows that have the same problem.

TBS really messes up GI, they should leave the B&W episodes alone...

Yeah...the black and white episodes that are in color look so strange that I laugh through the whole episode and don't get to see it.

TBS has GI so late at night or early in the morning(depending)
that I haven't watched their version.
Wonder if N@N will bring back the GI marathon during the
Summer like they did last year.

TVLand. My grandma could do a better job at editing Gilligan's Island then TBS.

Even my dogs could, I could do better coloring by taking pictures of the eps and painting em on the computer program Paint.

It's a horrible habit that cable stations do in order to fit in more commercials. This is a relatively recent practice. When I was about 11 years old (and that happy time was 24 years ago), GI was in syndication and one our local stations began showing it unedited each afternoon about the time I got home from school. In those days, the tv shows were not edited, I guess nobody had thought of that yet, and we were treated to the entire episode each day. I guess I must have seen each episode about 10 or 12 times during the next few years.

For the last 10 days I have been recovering from back surgery, (with nothing to do but surf the net and watch tv) and I've been watching GI again on TVLand, some of these episodes I have not seen for 20 years or more. But I can still spot the places where they have edited something out, and in many cases, I can actually recall what scene or dialogue is missing. It's weird what you remember after so many years.

If you haven't seen it when you flip through the channels then you might not recieve it, you could call cable/satelite and pay to get the channel. It's worth it, it has all the best classic sitcoms.

I like the N@N/TV Land versions. TV Land/N@N did a better job at editing and I prefer the first season in B&W.

As someone who's seen show exclusive on the Viacom channells (Nick, et al), I must point out I'd like to see the entire series unedited.

Here are some cuts in the color seasons, the episodes ( prefer:
"Ghost a _Go-Go" [March 24, 1966]
Gilligan talking about "ghost prints", the skipper's brief attempt to show Gilligan just how to count to ten (duh), Gilligan telling Mary Ann and Ginger to put on their bare essentials (referred to in the preceding scene as left intact), Gilligan tropical style, serenading the boat bye bye, and SKipper and Gilligan falling over a log at seeing the ghost (Richard Kiel) who they're both tyrying to give a dose of his own haunted medicine

ALLERGY TIME (March 31, 1966)
The two I can think of are the testing for allergy and the vow by the castaways to take the shots themelseves, something which edits out the laugh tracks following Gilligan calling the Professor's hypodermic needle a harpoon

THE FRIENDLY PHYSICIAN (APril 7, 1966)
Boris Balinkoff (Vito Scotti) coming back for the other castaways besides Gilligan and the skipper, and Mr.Howell explaining Balkinoff's sinister plans (the same stuff Boris tries out on everyone--brain switching)

MEET THE METOR (April 28, 1966)
The making of the lead suits (to protect The professor, The Skipper and Gilligan from the title matter's comsic rays).

THE HUNTER (January 16, 1967)
When The Professor gets Ginger to knockout the newest intruder on the Island, Gilligan hunting big game hunter Johnathan Kincaid (Rory Calhoun) with a kockout potion (accompanied by the sexy saxophone music so often used in these later episodes), Gilligan himself drinks it.Also the scene when the castaways are being forced into the cave (to the common "scary" music that accompanied the metor in MEET THE METEOR) right after Johnathan Kincaid scares Gilligan as the manhunt starts, right before the second scene with Kincaid and the castaways in the cave and turbanned assistant Ramoo (Harold Sakata).

I'd love to know if those scenes are intact in the TBS version (which airs only once per day-actually 2:30 a.m.!!!!:( ):\

15 years ago or so,MEET THE METEOR had metereor sized chunks taken out of it...but these are the ones restored on Nick/TVLand!

Now see, some of those scenes I've never heard of or had the chance to watch. I wish they would show the whole unedited versions, because some of those scenes sound so good! :( Especially those scenes in "Ghost a Go-Go"

I wish they'd leave the episodes alone. I've noticed that on TV Land, the episodes end sometimes about 3 minutes before the hour or half hour and there are still commercials. I don't see how they couldn't squeeze some of the cut scenes back in. **pouts** And I'm officially broke so I can't buy the insanely-expensive Columbia House tapes. Oh pooh.

The slicing and dicing of ALL episodes is pathetic. Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch have suffered terribly since about the late 80's-early 90's. On Gilligan's Island, you will now notice at least 5-8 "black outs" where something is cut, often without rhyme or reason. This results in entire scenes being chopped out and dialogue starting in the middle of lines!

What I have noticed is in the 3rd season episodes, they have that little preview thing that TV Land leaves intact before the theme song begins. If they were to cut that out and restore some of the main footage for the story, you could get maybe 2 minutes restored. Nothing of course SHOULD be cut however. Gilligan's Island in its uncut format runs anywhere from 26-27 minutes. The TV Land versions are now 23-24 minutes in length. So we are getting an average of 3 to 4 minutes cut per episode. That is a lot of lost time!

The first episode to have the preview, also called a "teaser", was episode 79, "The Invasion", written by Sam Locke and Joel Rapp and directed by Leslie Goodwins. Also the first since the B&W's to credit Schwartz as executive producer and have another producer listed (Robert LRosen, formerly the show's associate producer). In the occiaisonal episdes of the first season and in all of the episodes of the next season frequent director Jack Arnold did honors as executive producer.

I like them on TVLand the best. They show them at good times for me.
