I know we've had variations of posts like this before, but hey, people post repetitive topics all the time. I might as well join them.
So? Is there any particular band, artist, or song that you don't really admit to people you like, but totally love?
I don't know if the band I like is really all that bad. Actually, they were voted the "Most Underrated Band" in the Millenium Rolling Stone issue. And I totally agree.
It's more of the peer pressure to be eclectic about my music taste. Especially in my Journalism class. They pretty much listen to indie bands and Bob Dylan ALL THE TIME. I mean, I respect their tastes, and Bob Dylan can write great songs, as long as he gives them to others to actually sing them. (Dylan cannot sing. Period).
These people who claim to be SO "open-minded" can't even give my taste some respect. ( They can lecture me about Modest Mouse and Radiohead. But I can't even mention perfering the likes of Oasis and The Smiths).
Anyway, this particular band happens to be Duran Duran. Okay, don't scream all at once.
Personally, I think they were the perfect band to usher in MTV. They exploited it perfectly. Because if it wasn't for their videos like "Rio" and "Hungary Like the Wolf", arguably they're would of never been the great and epic videos from artists that followed. Or at least, they're would of been some catching up to do.
Besides that, they made pretty decent music. Yeah, it's the 80s. But it's the 80s at it's finest.
I don't know, maybe I'm biased. The first "record" (actually it was a cassette tape)
I ever recieved was the "Come Undone" single from my mom for Christmas 93' . I think my sister got "Ordinary World".
It may sound from the gifts we recieved that year, we're big Duran fans. No way.
Whenever "The Reflex"(my favorite single from their earlier days) comes on the radio, my mother always says, "Oh god, I'm going to suffer a seizure any moment now". My sister doesn't perfer the song that much either. If you've heard the song, you might know what the seizure thing is all about.
Wow, this post has turned out pretty long. I'll be surprised if anyone's still reading. After all, Duran Duran is SUCH an engaging subject.
