Standing on line, sounds like you're standing on the people in line. Penny Lane 08-30-2015, 11:10 PM I posted the question online to kill time while standing on line. In New York. Bonniegirl 08-31-2015, 12:09 AM I've always said stand IN line. But I have heard stand ON line too! I've heard everything just about, living where I live and English not being a first language with a lot of people. As a matter of fact my husband who's first language is Spanish says we have to make the line. And I had a Filipino friend that would say we have to fall in line! I always thought that was funny , I pictured people in the line falling down! hahahaha! Another thing I think is funny, is laying in bed!! We actually aren't IN the bed, we are ON the bed. If we were In the bed we would be stuffed /stuck in the mattress or something right? Seriously, think about it! How come we don't say I'm ON the bed, not I'm IN the bed! ? MrCleveland 08-31-2015, 07:48 AM Never heard standing on line...it was always standing in line...and I hate waiting in line! robyrob 08-31-2015, 09:24 PM bring some paint with you, then you can paint your own line an proceed to stand ON it while you are IN the line. or if you're British you can queue up for the queue. opus 09-01-2015, 05:40 PM bring some paint with you, then you can paint your own line an proceed to stand ON it while you are IN the line. Exactly. There can be a line on the floor you stand on. There can't be a line off the ground you're in. Penny Lane 09-01-2015, 07:41 PM Exactly. There can be a line on the floor you stand on. There can't be a line off the ground you're in. The line that you are standing in is formed by people not by paint. So at the DMV or grocery store, etc. you are in a line of people. You are not standing on them/it. :p This has got to be one of the weirdest subjects we've ever had on Sitcoms Online! opus 09-01-2015, 09:10 PM This has got to be one of the weirdest subjects we've ever had on Sitcoms Online! Nah.
