View Full Version : So Max Thirsty A$$ started having feelings for Barbara knowing she was with Mark?
TVFactFan 07-26-2015, 09:16 PM This episode was so damm weird:lol:
You can tell the show was running out of ideas because this episode made no sense at all. Wanting to make out with his sister inlaw. Then Barbara says she liked it:crazy:
BTW: I hope this show is never complete on DVD:lol:
Wawwie 07-26-2015, 09:29 PM BTW: I hope this show is never complete on DVD:lol:
I know what you mean. I made a different thread about how this show was not really that great. It was never even that funny.

Only laughed once during the ending of a season 3 episode LOL
Wawwie 07-26-2015, 09:35 PM Max never should have acted on his feelings for Barbara.
I'm glad they didn't confess to Mark.... there would be no point.
Wawwie 07-26-2015, 09:37 PM Only laughed once during the ending of a season 3 episode LOL
I think the only time I a actually laughed during this series was when Julie was telling Ann that Schneider wanted to drag race her and Chuck in his camper.
But that's it. This show is NOT funny.

The person who made me laugh was a Guest star:lol:
1960'sTVfan 07-26-2015, 10:47 PM I watched the episode, I thought it was OK. Nothing special or terrific, but OK.
Julie had left Max, he was starting to feel lonely, and began to get feelings for Barbara because she was being nice and attentive to him. Yes, even though she is his sister in law. This is something that can happen in a real life situation, not just an idea conjured up as script for a TV show. The part I didn't like was when Barbara had her woman to woman talk with her grandmom instead of her mother, but I guess Bonnie Franklin was behind the camera directing this episode, so she didn't appear in it.
I had to laugh when Barbara admitted to liking the kiss. Honestly, Barbara looked better with Max than she did with Mark. I always thought Barbara and Mark didn't look right together, just like Julie and Max didn't look right together. They should have paired Max up with Barbara, and Mark up with Julie. That would have been better.
I also watched the following episode, Off We Go, basically the finale of the series. I thought it was pretty good, kind of sad though, but I thought it was done well.

Bonnie was in the episode...however, that part was edited out in syndication and only shown during the closing credits lol

Oh OK, thanks for making that correction. That's what I don't like about these repeats on Antenna TV. The episodes are edited and we don't see everything.

Must have been a minor part since she was edited out

;)
If the show had gone to the extreme, not only would Barbara's mother have married her husband's father, she would have hooked up with her sister's husband, who was like a brother to her husband. The whole thing would have been more convoluted than General Hospital.
[Coincidence of the night. I was watching the One Day recording over a channel showing FRIENDS, and when I stopped, up popped "directed by Michael Lembeck" on FRIENDS.

Wow!! Neat!!! ;)
Adding to my last post that I just :) To!!! As I posted on another thread, Grandma Romano was in this ep for comic relief. By bringing the girls into the travel agency to meet Max, that is why they had her and not Ann. Ann wouldn't have done that of course, and the ep. would have been more dramatic than it already was! ;)
OMG! When she came in with those hot blonde identical twins! :D And adding to this, nobody mentioned at the end how Max was very cool in offering the trip to Mexico to Mark and Barbara and when Mark said "You aren't coming too"! Max replied "No, I have a date with a red haired manicurist"! So that led you to believe he was going to call her to start dating and try to get over his feelings for Barbara ! :)
Loved this , one of my favorite eps ever!!! ;) I just wish maybe they had one more kiss, and more steamy and romantic than the first one!!! ;)
'80sSitcoms 07-27-2015, 08:07 AM I agree, this was a really well-done episode, and very realistic; everything from Max's developing feelings, to Barbara struggling with the truth that she liked the kiss. Very, very well written.
The only thing I couldn't "buy" was Max starting to tell Barbara about his feelings, and then just blatantly kissing her---with people right next door in the kitchen! lol...other than that, a wonderful episode.

Yeah! And standing right in the middle of the room, and really going at it for a while! Not even off to the side where if they heard somebody come in they would have time to stop and they could play it off!
I had no idea what to expect from this ep. I had myself so hyped up, and than I got to thinking, maybe it will be a letdown, maybe just a little rated G flirting between them or something. But NO it was really more than I expected! When he grabbed her and kissed her and she was all into it too. I was like OMG WHOA!!! ;) One more kiss later would have been nice! ;) Could you imagine when they were standing in the travel agency when Mark walked in with the flowers, if they were kissing than, and he caught them? !!!!
ThomasE 07-27-2015, 11:11 PM This was a really good episode I remember when I first saw it I was in your zone yeah Max was a little out of line. By the way, Solomon, you had me at "thirsty a$#! Ha ha ha!

ThomasE 07-27-2015, 11:30 PM I remember being a kid and feeling bad for Barbara. I didn't realized she liked the kiss. It's been so long since I've seen the episode .

Talking about the kiss curled her TOES:lol:

She really wanted to go further than the kiss! ;) But Barbara was a girl with good morals! :D
And you know what I was thinking about? Max seemed to be turned on by "forbidden fruit" ! Like for instance, how he was attracted to Julie, and she was going to marry his best friend. I;) t was wrong, but it was exciting for him. Than he is going for his married sister in law, again forbidden fruit! That must have been his thing. The thrill of chasing woman that already were taken and he wasn't supposed to have! ;) Think about it guys! Am I right?

yes you are. Anything that is off limits is more appealing.
Like the women I interview to determine their eligibility for childcare at the office, I can tell someone of them are just looking at me like......."damm I want him" instead of the childcare guidelines:lol:

mmm, I don't think so. I think it was just a case of two specific circumstances. Max loved Julie and just knew that Fred was not right for her. Sometimes people do marry the wrong people, and he didn't want that to happen here because he knew in his heart that he and Julie were meant for each other. That's how I see it.
And with Barbara, he had just been left by his wife to be a single father. It seems natural he would start to have feelings for Barbara (versus "going after her like forbidden fruit"), because they work side by side 8 hours a day, and then they go home where they share a house together. So he is seeing her day and night and spending much more time with her than her husband, and she already cares about him and his baby, her niece. Because of all that it just seems natural to me that he would develop feelings for her, and like he said, he didn't know how much of it was Barbara herself, and how much of it was pure loneliness.
That's my take. :)
And you know what I was thinking about? Max seemed to be turned on by "forbidden fruit" ! Like for instance, how he was attracted to Julie, and she was going to marry his best friend.
And who became his best friend down the road? Mark.
Bonniegirl 07-28-2015, 01:22 PM And who became his best friend down the road? Mark.
Yep!!! ;)
Max seemed to be attracted to the type of love that was dramatic and the I know I shouldn't love you but I can't help my feelings for you type of thing. What's more dramatic than marrying your best friends girl right at the wedding that you were the best man at!!!!! Or falling in love with your Sister in law who's husband was probably at that point his best friend.
And I'm not saying Max was just being a d*ck or a horn dog, he was handsome, had charisma and a good personality. he could get his choice of women. He just seemed to be attracted to what he wasn't supposed to have! ;)
Hey Max , over here  ( that is me waving) LOL. I'm married , I'm forbidden fruit, come fall in love with ME!!!!! :D

Thanks for the offer! ;) But the only one who I can let "curl my toes" is my husband! Only in my imagination/fantasy the good looking actors can "curl my toes"! :D
Or as TVfactfan says Max is thirsty , I'd be more than happy to give Max some "water"! Wink Wink!!!!!  :D

Lot of young people here in philly like to throw the thirsty term around and I have no shame in being thirsty. Because if someone goes long enough without affection from the opposite sex then they will be thirsty lol
The same way any human would who went days without drinking liquids:lol:

Yeah I know what it means. The young people out here say it too. After you posted about Barbara being "thirsty" before I asked my son if he knew what "Thirsty" meant and he explained it to me, I pretty much figured it out already though before asking! LOL!!! :D

I remember a woman way back in 1993 on my college campus saying that guy who acts like he "doesn't need anything" is so HOT:lol:
'80sSitcoms 07-29-2015, 08:34 AM I've never heard of "thirsty" lol.

Yeah in a way cause he's playing hard to get, and he would be a challenge! ;) :D Or that he is a gentleman and sometimes guys you least expect can actually turn out to be the thirstiest behind closed doors!!!;) :D
Bonniegirl 11-16-2015, 03:11 PM Bringing up this thread again in advance for tomorrow night!!!
LOL@ reading back some of the posts!!! And the thread title! TVfactfan sure has away with words!!!
I noticed last night (I forget which ep) Max and Barbara passed each other on the stairs and he said to her "Hi Doll"!!!
mets82 11-16-2015, 03:29 PM Yeah but Max shouldnt have acted on his feelings. I mean show some respect for Mark, the same guy that cried with you when Julie left. And I would have told Mark. I think Mark had a right to know.
TVfactfan sure has a way with words!!!
Sure , but not in a good way.

cancel your internet service:lol:
Bazinga!
Bonniegirl 11-17-2015, 09:43 PM Something I found kind of strange!! The rotating household chores. That's fine ,the vacuuming and the cooking , but the laundry??? Did that include under garments? Socks were included even right off a person's feet! Well I know I'm over thinking this and it's only a TV show. But really would Mark want Max washing Barbara's underwear? And I'm sure he wouldn't want Barbara washing Max's! Also it would be kind of weird for Mark and Max to be washing each others under shorts!!!! LOL!!!! Ewwww!!!!
No wonder Max and Barbara became attracted to each other if they were handling and washing each others undergarments!!!! LOL!!!!!

I'm glad I was told to cancel my Internet service so I don't have to answer this one. But every time someone works for a drop off laundry service they become attracted?
-You can tell this episode was co -directed by Bonnie F, because when they kiss you can clearly hear an Oh my god in the background.
-There's an edited out Ann-Grandma scene you can see during the closing credits

I kind of posted the last part to be funny! :D But for real, dropping clothes off at a laundry, and strangers washing your clothes (including underwear) ,cause it's their job is a lot different than a sister and brother in law washing each others unmentionables!!! ;) :D
