View Full Version : Corey Feldman fans, rejoice opus 07-22-2015, 02:38 PM Mon (7/27) 11 EST, AntennaTV is running the rarely seen Schneider pilot, featuring the esteemed Mr. Feldman. '80sSitcoms 07-22-2015, 04:40 PM This will be neat to see :) But I can't believe they tried a Schneider pilot in season 9. His schtick is already old and stale by this point, and they wanted to spin off his own show? lol...it seems if they would have spun anyone off, it would have been Barbara and Mark, starring on "The Royers", lol. I'm looking forward to this ep. But in a way it will be sad cause it means it really is over!:( The ep before that when Ann goes to England will probably be worse for me. I bet I'll cry! :( I think they should have given Schneider's spinoff a shot. Yeah his shtick was old, but being in a new setting with new co stars might have made him different ! Down in Florida with circus or carnival people sounds kind of fun for a sitcom! :D The Royers would have been cool too. I posted about that before. That they could get some cool new co stars as their friends and neighbors. And Max kind of as a third wheel ex brother in law/roommate who gets on Barbara's nerves! But she really loves him because he is like family and she would basically be raising Annie! :) TeeVeeCloset 07-22-2015, 10:14 PM Mon (7/27) 11 EST, AntennaTV is running the rarely seen Schneider pilot, featuring the esteemed Mr. Feldman. You know I have all my respect for you but just to clarify (and I assume it was just a slip of your wording) but Episode #209 with Valerie Bertinelli seen briefly at the beginning on the phone in "Another Man's Shoes" 5/28/84 was always part of the entire syndication package, so technically it is no rarer then the entire series itself before airing on Antenna TV after many years of seldom US national airings since E! For others #204 "Bringing In The Clowns" 4/4/84 was also a pilot featuring two of Marks' one episode seen "wacky" friends..... Valerie was offered a Royer Spin off and though Boyd Gaines was not interested, an idea was talked of briefly pairing Valerie with Michael Lembeck, hence episode #207 "The Nearness Of You" 5/4/84. Not that the characters of "Barbara" & "Max" would have been intimate if the series went, but they would have written "Mark" out and it would have followed abondoned "Max" raising baby "Annie" with "Baby starved Barbara" in a platonic way and working at the travel agency. Valerie nixed all ideas as she had already done several TV movies, and wanted/needed to concentrate on her marriage. Nine years was enough for her. BTW....for those who wanted Valerie credited as Valerie Van Halen, take note in her entire career she never was billed as anything by choice as Valerie Bertinelli to this day. If you want some real rare Corey Feldman, seek out the disaster syndicated early 80's "Madame's Place" featuring the puppet Madame, created by Wayland Flowers. I have the two episodes that TV Land aired about 15 years ago. Lastly my posts are long because I get it all out in one factual post, I hardly visit, so if you want to bash, go ahead........ As the series comes to an end for its' first run on Antenna TV, so many arm chair critics...... Boyd Gaines as some may know became a multiple Tony winner and always loved the broadway stage, Valerie & Gaines had no real chemistry because she was by then in love with Eddie and Gaines never has spoken of his sexuality, but the chemistry was forced (pick your choice as to why of two reasons) and as for the character of "Alex" played by I'm sure a young very confused with his sexuality actor Glenn Scarpelli, chose to come out openly, which I never read one post regarding that, just how awful and fem he was in the series......Glenn today is a very well educated openly gay male with yes his voice deeper. As I wish some of these posts were, instead of a post I read lusting after a 13 year old guest actress, that not one poster or moderator addressed. It's still up but have no intention of pointing it out. opus 07-22-2015, 10:41 PM You know I have all my respect for you but just to clarify (and I assume it was just a slip of your wording) but Episode #209 with Valerie Bertinelli seen briefly at the beginning on the phone in "Another Man's Shoes" 5/28/84 was always part of the entire syndication package, so technically it is no rarer then the entire series itself before airing on Antenna TV after many years of seldom US national airings since E! I have the two episodes that TV Land aired about 15 years ago. -OK, maybe I overhyped it, but you have to admit it sounded dramatic that way. (basic advertising ploy). -I always thought the pilot for Mark's friends involved Jerry Houser, Eloise, and the other guy, so I was wrong about that. - I did figure , though, at that point in time Valerie wasn't going anywhere near Barbara, no matter how much was offered. But the part about Barbara and Max is really interesting. Especially the dumping Mark part. TVFactFan 07-24-2015, 12:33 AM Seems odd CBS would pitch a Schneider spinoff when season 9 of the parent show was AWFUL Anna Karenina 06-21-2017, 05:29 PM Oh, that Schneider backdoor pilot was TV magic! :D Anna Karenina 06-21-2017, 10:09 PM Seems odd CBS would pitch a Schneider spinoff when season 9 of the parent show was AWFUL It had its moments. :) Torgo 06-21-2017, 10:46 PM Let's hear it for the Feldster. I'd like supporting references regarding these so-called "spin-offs"/"backdoor pilots" mentioned in this thread. Valerie and Bonnie both signed on for season 9 as their last season (passing on the two-season offer) prior to production beginning that August - months before "The Nearness of You" and "Bring in The Clowns" were even written. Could CBS have spent months begging one or both of them to reconsider in some form while Season 9 was taping - Especially since CBS loss M*A*S*H only months earlier and they were about to lose another hit sitcom - I've always said that's possible. The only time Valerie has made reference to any possible spin-offs were in her first book that when Mac came back (and we assume in a "healthy" phase) there was talk of the two of them being spun-off, which faded off eventually.(we can assume mac's possibility of reoccurring issues might have made CBS and Lear weary, which they were proved right.) Valerie also did say in her first book if Bonnie had taken the two-season deal, she would have taken a year off and then returned for season 10. So, if there were plans for other spin-offs, or there was use of the show for a backdoor pilot, it's not in any reference books I've checked. They Don't turn up in the unabridged version of Lee Goldberg's book on Unsold Pilots - and the Schneider pilot does as "Another Man's Shoes". Goldberg's unabridged book is simply an amazing read. So if someone has a blurb from an old ODAAT-era Variety, Hollywood Reporter or a mention in TV GUIDE's "Teletype" news column (that page in the back of the old-style digest TV GUIDES - remember that's how us old fans used to get information about goings on in TV in the 1950's-1990's) Feel free to share. Something like proposed (but unmade) spin-off(s) would have at least gotten a mention as newsworthy- especially from a hit show from Norman Lear. Svenfan1234 07-21-2017, 12:34 PM Did Logo ever air the Schneider backdoor pilot or is that only an Antenna thing??? I'm guessing Logo wouldn't/hasn't aired it, but I could be wrong. LOGO skipped several Season 9 episodes the first time around for some reason - just like they skipped episodes the first cycles of the rest of the series. Guess the episodes weren't ready for air. |
