I recall that he took his mother to a mental hospital in California. He said something to the effect that since he had money now he could get her the best of care.

He went to CA to assist with his ill mother, while there he had a "fling" with her nurse, so when he got back stuff hit the fan and Roseanne kicked him out.... of course they later reconcile.

Was the nurse Phyllis Zimmer? Why did he have the fling? It seems out of character for him, but then nothing about Season 9 was normal! I guess if you really want to get technical the fling didn't even happen because Dan was no longer in the land of the living. Roseanne's "ending" completely threw pretty much the entire series out of whack.
