Cable channel gets new look, aims for “quality, cleverness and truth”

TV Land revealed its new logo on Tuesday, one of the final touches of its rebranding effort.

The network said the new look, which debuts today on the linear channel, reflects the three tenets of its “reinvention” — “quality, cleverness and truth” — and attempts to be “more authentic, raw and emotive.”

“Our new logo, look and editorial voice are a part of a major overhaul of the TV Land brand itself,” said Kim Rosenblum, executive vice president of Marketing and Creative for the network. “The majority of our audience in prime time and weekends are now Gen Xers – vibrant, working adults who grew up on MTV and edgier shows. They demand and deserve a brand that is more connected to where they are today. They are layered and complicated, and their idea of escape is to lean in and go deep. We are a new TV Land for this new audience.”

Keith Cox, executive vice president of Development and Original Programming for TV Land, added: “For the past year, we’ve been taking more risks as a network, committed to bringing in the content that makes us a destination for unique shows that have a distinct voice, separating us from the TV Land of the past. The new look and logo signal that this change is officially here.”

TV Land’s brand reinvention — moving toward original programming that is more serialized — began with Darren Starr’s “Younger.” The channel aims to take more risks and reflects the life experiences of the Gen X viewer, it said. Other new summer series, “The Jim Gaffigan Show,” “Impastor” and “Teachers” also mark the approach.

The cable channel recently announced a script deal with John Wells and John Riggi for a single-camera period comedy project inspired by the life of Kyle Richards.

Has anyone ever watched a network for the logo?

No, unless it's Logo, but that would just be redundant.

The key quote to note here is where it says that TV Land wants to add programming that would be "separating us from the TV Land of the past" The great series from the past was exactly the reason why they became a big success right away but are struggling to gain viewers now so like everyone else they're going for the cheap and sleazy look. In other words, Younger is in (younger shows for younger audiences) and the classics are out, and so is any good taste they once had.

Amen.

And re-read the quotes from those honchos--huh? It's like listening to a politician, only worse.

Here's a translation: "Our ratings and revenues are in the tank, and getting worse. Let's go further down toward the gutter level and see if we can rescue ourselves."

I gave up on the network long ago especially when they started doing the off-the-wall schedule times like an episode of "Three's Company" coming on at 11:22 and going off at 12:02. That's ridiculous and so obvious they're just making room for more commercials. Horrible, horrible excuse for a network.

I miss the days of TV Land when they'd show THE CLASSICS on a regular schedule without pounding the crap outta commercials.

Is this "watermark" logo that shows on the screen as big as it appears on this post? :angryfire"

I'm a Gen-Xer, and what they outline holds absolutely no interest for me whatsoever. And this is from someone who enjoys several "edgy" modern drama series, like Fargo, The Americans, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, etc. I just have no confidence in TV Land's brain trust to deliver anything of quality (even of "edgy" quality), and hold them in contempt for discarding what their predecessors built and operated in the mid/late-1990s (this contempt extends to the audiences who helped facilitate this gradual switch to what TV Land and Nick @ Nite eventually became).

Actually, TV Land lost my viewership when they were still a classic TV network, but went overboard with the gimmick of marathon programming of individual series, and relied too much on the overplayed "tried-and-true" classics (Lucy, Andy Griffith, Bewitched, Brady Bunch, etc), while scaling way back on (and eventually excluding) the less-familiar oldies. That was something like 15 years ago... wow.

That's why I largely subscribe to the Regulus method of home entertainment. The network/library you build for yourself can't be corrupted by the bad taste and wrongheaded decisions of others, and will last a lifetime.

[B]I'll go with Antenna TV, Cozi, and MeTV thanks very much..

I have added Decades to your list. Once TVland went into 1990's tv shows and aired current shows, I tuned out. By then other retro stations came in and many of us switched.

IMO TV Land re-branded themselves years ago when they stopped airing the classic's and cut off parts of what little they offered with excess commercials. I no longer watch that channel.

I've learned from being on this site, that most here love the classics. Which is good. But you have to get into today's television shows as well.

The reason networks change their images and programming is to get ratings, which in return bring in the money. If no one is watching you lose money. The reruns that TV Land has shown probably weren't bringing in the big ratings.

Honestly if you want to watch your classic shows the best thing is to get Netflix, Hulu, or buy all the DVD sets.

And so goes a once good channel, done in by those of ilk whom think that there no need for classics anymore.Just throw in some ne'er-do-well shows done by ne'er-do-well actors that panders to the 18-24 year old,and yeah,we have us a network!Aren't there already 100 networks out there that does the same thing?!And keeping on the one or two classics that been ran to death in the ground isn't doing us any favors!

I'm 47, so I'm probably out of the age that TV Land wants to appeal to. I have absolutely no interest in a "rebranded" network like this. TV Land died many years ago to me when they changed from airing classic shows to more "reality" crap. :(

I've just noticed that some of the shows: How I Met Your Mother, Raymond, King of Queens, etc now shown in HD as with new rebrand. With How I Met Your Mother has joined TVLand lineup last Monday, I've noticed that Brady Bunch has been pulled, in addition with Dukes of Hazzard being pulled.

they might as well give themselves a new name and be done with it...like POP (formerly TV Guide Network) or UP (the old Gospel Music Channel)

Or they can be the "The Former Classic TV Network" based on their lineup the rest of the evening

8pm-10:30pm-Everybody Loves Raymond
10:30pm-King of Queens
1am-2am....How I met Your Mother

They can change the logo, the network, the music etc. but the bottom line is that people see right through it. The fact is no amount of logo changing can make up for there lack of classic programming and there absurd notion of having 50 commericals during a program.
