Though Dolph Sweet didn't act sweet as Chief Carl Kaniski, I heard he was someone that the cast has talked to about his life in World war II, Theater, and football. Even Nell Carter sang to him on his deathbed at a hospital and gave his eulogy (I wonder if she sang at Sweet's funeral as well)? But on his funeral, the season finale aired and his last words on TV were "Is Julie in there"?

I agree that the show started to go downhill after his death. However, I thought the real kiss of death was the move to New York and the introduction of Joey's brother Matthew! I found it pretty hard to watch after that!

I liked Nell...the sitcom was almost like Taming of the Shrew and the Chief was the shrew!

Even Chief's dad, grandpa couldn't tame him...Nell was the one who gave Chief tough love even though he was tough to begin with...
