View Full Version : I can see why Ann was not comfortable with the young doctor
TVFactFan 04-25-2015, 01:18 AM He just came off so GOOFY when the situation was very serious for Ann since her daughter was going under the knife. I mean he gave off the "if this surgery don't go well I'm still paid" type of vibe. lol
And Julie so damm immature and only wanted him to operate because she felt he was good looking. Why did someone looks have to matter as long as she was getting her health issue fixed? Julie was so weird
Bonniegirl 04-25-2015, 02:31 AM When Ann realized Julie was really sick and in pain and it was most likely appendicitis she should have just gotten her to the hospital! Their own doctor was out of town, and they are sitting around thinking where they could find another doctor. Even had the yellow pages out! I mean come on!!! Get the girl to the hospital! I know it was the middle of the night, but Schneider was there, he would be willing to go with them if Ann was afraid to go out at night or something!
And than conveniently there happens to be a doctor in the apartment building! I didn't have a problem with him being young, but under the circumstances, Ann already being nervous about his age and experience and he still is cracking stupid jokes and stuff!!!
Than getting to the hospital and their are NO surgeons available???? HELLO!!! What the hell kind of a hospital was that?

He looks 2 years older than Julie LOL

l wouldn't go that far. LOL. If I were a parent, I'd be concerned as well. He should have held back on the jokes and been more serious and maybe Ann would have taken him seriously.
Ronny G 04-25-2015, 02:58 PM He acted like a stand-up comedian. I couldn't take him seriously, either.

I don't want to ever see a doctor's teeth if I have to go into surgery or a relative of mine. lol

But hey...."If they are working at this hospital, then they must be good".

Built right from the kit, dude!!!!
Bonniegirl 08-15-2015, 12:13 AM I dug up this old thread because this ep is on tonight, and pretty much what I posted before is what I think now!!!
One thing I will add is how times have changed!!! Obviously they did have insurance, so that wasn't the issue. Now days they would have just got Julie to the hospital on a HMO or PPO or lately with Obama care even poor people with Medical/Medicaid (Medical is what Medicaid is called in California) , she would have just been taken to a hospital and that would be that! They would have diagnosed her and operated or whatever they had to do, they wouldn't have been sitting around wondering what to do and as I said before there wouldn't have "conveniently " been a young doctor in the building! Even if there was they would have just got her to the hospital, not even bothered with that young intern/doctor guy!
WOW!!! IDK!!! I was pretty healthy back in the 70's and never had to be rushed to a hospital! And I guess people around me were too, but was that the norm? All that confusion if people obviously had medical insurance? ? Or was that just for the show?
Plus that young doctor wasn't even all that hot looking!
Mickey4ever 08-15-2015, 12:25 AM I tend to look at it that it is just a sitcom, and things are often portrayed in a silly way, unrealistic and we know that people in their right mind wouldn't say, or act like they did in this episode. He did seem awfully young looking though didn't he:crazy: But then again, this 'made' the episode...his being young looking to Ann, his looking 'hot' to Julie and so on and so on..........:D I can't even begin to count the times I've watched many a show, even shows today, and say, wow, that isn't even remotely realistic.;)
and as always, JMHO....

Just watched my recording (missed it the first cycle) and totally agree with Mickey4ever. I found this one pretty funny straight thru. Yes, even the doctor. If someone's going for an honest look at the medical profession, there's always documentaries, or maybe ER .I thought we wanted our sitcoms humorous.

See now I saw it different! And you know me, I usually find the humor in everything! But not this. I thought it was sad, a poor young girl being sick with appendicitis, and all the worry cause her doctor was out of town! :( Back than, OK you contacted your primary doctor for things, but if he wasn't available, he had associates that would have said get her to the hospital, they would find an associate of the Doctor to take care of her !;)
I thought that young Doctor was corny and well, that wasn't my favorite ep, lets put it that way! Also Julie looked pretty healthy and she was supposed to be sick, than a few seasons later she looked terrible and was supposed to be healthy , coming home from a ski trip with a fiancé and a fiancé's best friend in love with her!

Everything always comes back to Max, doesn't it :)
Bonniegirl 08-15-2015, 02:17 AM Everything always comes back to Max, doesn't it :)
Well actually here I was just giving an example, that Julie was supposed to be sick in this ep and it was before Mack really started to go down and be sickly looking from the drug addiction! :(
But OK I think I know what you are getting at , meaning if I thought the young doctor was hot, I might like the ep better? :D Like if Michael Lembeck had by chance got that role of the doctor back than I'd be like Oh what a cute young new doctor, why was Ann so upset! :D And this ep is good!!! :D Well maybe?
But see, now I don't always base the eps on how cute or hot I find the guys on it are!;) Like for instance. I thought the two parter where Julie got into Religion ( The LOGS) was really good!;) It was well done, dramatic and heart felt! And I certainly didn't have a crush on any guys in that ep! That poor bum, WOW!!! He was a MESS! :( The way he was shaking when he was eating those pancakes was very realistic of a person who would be an alcoholic , street person going through withdrawer from needing a drink:( ! He was casted very well!!!! Even cleaned up , he looked a mess! :(
It was sad, but very true, things like this go on, except of course Julie probably wouldn't have really brought him home, but she might have helped out /volunteered on Skid row or a homeless mission! ;)
Like for instance. I thought the two parter where Julie got into Religion ( The LOGS) was really good!;)
Best lines:
Jesus...likes you
Jesus... is trying very hard to love you

OMG there was so much of that going on than. Cult like Religions. "Jesus Freaks" as they called them!
biffbronson 08-15-2015, 10:36 PM I was under the impression Bonniegirl liked Doogie Howser M.D. primarily for the scripts, but I think I may have been jumping to a partially wrong conclusion. This is certainly not a criticism of any kind -- I should have realized that a young M.D. could draw in viewers with his looks as well...! And while I've never had the pleasure of having an attractive young female doctor personally, I did used to watch Dr. Quinn for her looks ;)
In recent years, I have to admit my new female dentist has caused a little stirring below the utility belt, as Adam West would allude to!! Women have such small hands as compared with male dentists.

Bonniegirl likes to watch Doogie Howser to see Doogie's cute little Italian friend Vinnie!!! ;) :) (my pattern of dark haired ethnic men) ! ;) :D
Plus the show was cool! The stories were good and Neil Patrick Harris is a good actor!;) He played a child Prodigy very well, see I like him better in a role like this better than in "How I met your Mother"! !! But my heart belongs to cute little goofy Vinnie! :) ;)
biffbronson 08-15-2015, 10:51 PM Oh, thank you for clarifying! I'm sorry I've gotten this thread off-topic somewhat. I do like to watch for nice-looking female guests on any sitcom, and while ODAAT is no exception, there just weren't all that many female guests to begin with.
(Re: Hair color & ethnicity: I might add that as a dark-haired Greek, I've found being that way to be a mixed bag. A relative in my sister-in-law's family found me attractive for my ethnic appearance and commented on my dark hair the minute she met me.:) But I hate going to a county-city building where they check everyone entering -- on two occasions they pulled me aside and "wanded" me to make sure I wasn't carrying a weapon...!:()

OH!!!! It finally dawned on me why you were talking about Doogie Howser MD on a ODAAT thread! Because Doogie was a young doctor and the thread was about the ep with the young doctor! :D
But that's OK anyway , even before I knew that, I got to post about cute Vinnie! ;) Being a Gemini, I'm ALWAYS going off topic even in everyday life! I can bounce from one topic to another in seconds! ;) I love that actually! :)

Just seeing this reply....yes, not every episode is the best, my fav or whatever...same goes for shows today, comedy, drama or whatever...some smack the ball outta the park and some are just so-so. Again, I take it for what it was intended, not looking too deep into it all.
Bonniegirl, seeing things differently is what draws us to message boards...we all have likes, dislikes and of course glorious opinions  :D :rotflmao:
