View Full Version : Very obvious edit in last night's Antenna TV airing

The episode Schneider's Pride and Joy got a very obvious edit last night. They cut out the entire scene where Schneider is bragging about his nephew and cut right in on his nephew entering the Romano home. That scene sets up the entire show and why Schneider becomes disappointed in his nephew later on in the show. They cut out one of the good scenes and left in scenes that were wasted time.

The first episode introduced Ginny. It was about a furniture repair company trying to cheat Ann. The second guest starred Mark Hamill as Schneider's nephew who was a thief. He stole Barbara and Ginny's tape recorders. It was great seeing him about a year before Star Wars came out.

I saw the end of that episode and thought, Gee, that guy reminds me of Mark Hamill! :)

Too bad Bonniegirl, you missed two of my favorite episodes of the series. Ginny's debut was hilarious. In fact, it was so funny nothing she did after that could really measure up.

Oh wow! I'll catch them next time around I hope! ;)

I love to spot people like Mark Hamill who aren't famous yet in old TV shows!;)

I am talking about how the first 2 minutes or so was cut. Schneider was telling Ann all about his nephew before he walked in like that. He was telling her how much he was like him which set up the joke for him walking in like Schneider with the pass key.

You probably should have mentioned that in your original post instead of being vague.

It was the "Happy New Year" episode, recorded off Antenna TV on 4/21. The show seems OK. I could tell that of the 3 or so minutes shaved off for syndication, some were from the opening scene because the episode appeared to begin in the middle of a scene. No context of why Schneider was cross-dressing, if there was in the uncut version. And the episode somewhat felt rushed without the 3 missing minutes.

And someone asked about why S2 isn't available on DVD yet. Well, guess what? The "Happy New Year" episode has music that needs to be licensed, as part of the storyline of the new year's celebration at the retirement home, with Barbara and Julie dressed as Elton John and Kiki Dee and singing "Don't Go Breaking My Heart". And Ann tap danced to and sang "On the Good Ship Lollipop". Ginny sang "Mr. Wonderful". It's not very likely Sony is willing to sacrifice the big money needed to license these songs (a similar circumstance that held up the last few seasons of The Facts of Life until recently - even Shout Factory took a while).

Did you no see that I was playing/joking around Wawwie? I don't start wars but I do end them when one comes up.

Wawwie you might want to butt out of my conversations with other people. Unless you have all the facts you paint yourself out to look foolish and I am sure you are a very smart person.

I can take a look at the episode if you need me to verify if something was edited. I have that episode unedited.

Here is the opening scene from beginning up until that point you mentioned

1. Julie is doing Yoga when the phone starts ringing so she answers the phone with her feet
2. Barbara runs out because she thinks it may be a boyfriend
3. The phone was for Ann who just walks in
4. It was some guy named Larry
5. Ann does not want to talk to him so she tells Julie to lie for her
6. Julie sucks at lying so Ann makes up her own lie then starts talking about this poor guy for the next minute and a half after she hangs up.
7. Ginny comes in singing along with Schneider who happens to be dressed like a woman.
8. He is dressing like that because it is for a New Years Eve tradition he does at the lodge with his buddies

On a somewhat related note, I was wondering if the season one DVD set has any edits?
Specifically, the episode where Ann dances to "the Hustle" with Robby Benson.
Did they replace the song with generic music?

"The Hustle" was intact on the S1 DVDs.

I saw a obvious edit in part 2 of the religious episode with Julie

Toward the end of part 2 while Ann was talking to Julie at the police station the scene cut away while Ann was in the middle of a sentence

lol

I suppose all of the season 1 DVD is intact. I never bothered buying it because all of seasons 1-4 were on demand.

The only bonus on the season 1 DVD was the reunion which I had recorded when it originally aired so it was not much of a bonus for me. It appears they cut out the musical performances from the Reunion on the DVD as well from what a few fans complained about.

I have almost every episode unedited so I can help identify which scenes have been cut.

Too bad Comcast discontinued Tube Time because they had so many great shows on there. The only problem I had with Tube Time is that they did have a few edited versions of programming in their selection but I assume that is how the episode came to them.

I was able to get most of Maude on demand as well. They had 3 or 4 seasons of the show on there before removing them. Same thing with One Day at a Time.

The Facts of Life had 7 seasons worth of episodes on demand and I believe that is the only show that lasted more than 4 seasons with on demand.

I just watched my first Antenna TV episode and noticed that the first scene after the credits comes in 1/2 to 2 minutes later. You can tell because they have already engaged in some dialogue by the time to commercial break ends. The edit is obvious because you usually hear the audience laughing after the commercial break indicating there was some dialogue we missed.

These appear to be the same versions that aired on E! and MeToo. So they are the standard 21 to 22 minutes and a few seconds worth of content.
