OH WOW! angelofmusic 03-23-2002, 11:19 PM I say when ever YOUR ready, you know? People feel mature enough to do it at different ages. Kay Scarpetta 03-23-2002, 11:26 PM I'm sorry, but 14?!? That's too young. I wouldn't care if I was ready at age 13 laying in bed at night gettin hornier by the minute. I think 14 is WAY too young. I mean, what if you get pregnant? Yes, I know it was your choice to have sex, but then what will you do? Drop out? What will you do if the guy rapes you? What if it's like a 3 minute thing? What if your physically ready but not emotionally ready? There are just so many what-ifs. Warm & Fuzzy 03-23-2002, 11:31 PM Originally posted by Jean Smart Forever I'm sorry, but 14?!? But I choose to shut my trap. angelofmusic 03-24-2002, 12:14 AM Just to clarify, -I wasn't saying fourteen is old enough. I agree that fourteen is very young, and I can't see a fourteen year old really...Wanting too. That's how old my older sister is, and I don't think she is mature enough. I just meant that people mature at different ages, and some feel ready before others. Some want to wait until there wedding night. (Which I btw find very romantic, if two people love each other and choose to wait.. I dunno somthing about that makes my mushy romantic side come out.) angel676 03-24-2002, 12:51 AM Personally, I don't think or believe that there is a certain age where it's considered to be okay to have sex. It's more of a feeling, a feeling of maturity and a feeling of right and wrong. If you want to, you want to! If you don't, you don't! JMO!!!!! JoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJo 03-24-2002, 01:00 AM I aggree with Angel. The right time to have sex is within the person and the connection that the two people have with each other. I aggree though that 14 is a bit on the young side JoPol_wannabe 03-24-2002, 01:06 AM Originally posted by NancyMcKeon1987 I say wait til you're married, I totally agree with you (This is my opinion) I mean sex is a beautiful thing (not that I've ever done it) and you should wait and do it with the man you marry beacuse then it will mean more and then if you get pregnant at least you know that your husband is going to stick around beacuse you should talk about this before you get married. vienna waits 03-24-2002, 02:14 AM Originally posted by angelofmusic I agree that fourteen is very young, and I can't see a fourteen year old really...Wanting too. I was referring to the ones I know, (My sister and her friends many of whom are my friends). That seems to be the last thing on there minds. I know that there are girls out there doing it, it just seems to me like they couldn't REALLY be enjoying it. I did know one thirteen year old girl who wasn't a virgin.. She lived next door to me for like a month, and had a horrible reputaion. She didn't deny anything that people were saying about her, but it seemed like she just couldn't say no to guys. She didn't seem to be enjoying being sexaully active. Originally posted by tootieismyfav I'm sure lots of fourteen year olds want to, especially guys. You know I almost typed that it's different for guys, and that there are a lot more guys wanting to sex, then girls. But I didn't want to insult any of the guys here. And I realised that I don't know any fourteen year old guys who want too, and it's reather stereo-typical. Plata 03-24-2002, 04:29 AM I also think you should wait until you get married before having sex. I am a virgin, but I know at least two girls who go to my school who aren't virgins. And, I've known them since grade nine. So, they were about 14, as well. Also, way too young in my opinion. I'm 16 now and I'm going to wait until marriage before having sex. AKA 03-24-2002, 05:59 AM While I do think that fourteen is a tad young, I say that whenever you're ready is the right time. I was nineteen when I lost my virginity. JethroSimpson 03-24-2002, 07:25 AM Althuogh it is down to each indivivdual person to know how they feel, I don't think you can make a serious descision like that until you are around 18. *Marilyn Monroe* 03-24-2002, 10:25 AM All of the guys in my grade want to have sex so bad, and we're only in 8th grade! Ads are using way too much sex to promote products, and I think that that is just wrong. Sex is not something you do when you're bored, it's a beautiful act of love between two people who care for each other, and I also agree to wait to have sex until you're married. My psychology teacher was telling us one day that sex is the number one reason why couples break up. Also, we were watching this movie about abuse in our psychology class, and it showed this one woman who was a victim of incest by her father when she was 9!! And it scared her for life! No joke, she was in a bad family and that just ruined her life. She had 2 pregnancies, one at 9 and one at 11. It was really sad to see her talk about because she was all in tears and I couldn't even describe her actions. I know I trailed off a bit, but if you wait until decide to have sex and pregnant, you will have to suffer the consequenses. And a baby isn't something you keep and get bored w/, like Mossop said in another topic, a baby is somethiung you take care of all of you're life, not just until it is 18. It is a lifelong commitment you will have to make. And if you wait until the right time, you will feel so much better, because then you are ready for anything that might come your way. InspectorExstead 03-24-2002, 03:02 PM 14 is young...but if that person understands and is mature, both physically and emotionally, and goes to see a doctor and uses condoms and birth controls and knows the consequences, then I think it's ok. You know? But they should wait till like after high school. school has enough pressure-academics, sports, extra curriculums, psats, parents nagging u, stanford 9, college and to add sex on there is like really big. but whatever. :D DJM77 03-24-2002, 05:07 PM It's up to the individual to make the decision but I personally think that 14 is way too young. When I was around that age I was anxious to have sex but now that I'm grown I realize that it's best to wait until you're married. Just an opinion. Mossopp 03-24-2002, 05:11 PM I agree that 14 is waaaaaaay to young to be jumping into bed with people. Like many of you I also like to think that your first time should be with someone whom you really love and who really loves you, but not eveyone can have that. I'm nearly 20 and I've never been in a serious relationship - sometimes I think I'll never have that - and so the idea of waiting for someone who loves me seems a bit crazy. I've waited 20 years and noones been interested in me - I dunno if I can wait another 20 years! Childhood is a very special thing and once you have sex (which is a very 'adult' thing) your childhood is effectively over. They have no idea the responsibility that comes with being that intimate with someone and how much more painful it is when you break up after having done it with them. They think they are ready, then once they've done it, run the risk of having a child come out of it, and have opened themselves up that much to someone, without the committment you have with marriage, the outcome can be brutal. That person may leave you, that person may have just done it with you cause you're available, and not because they truly love you. And yes, that can all happen when you're married, but at least, you have that license, you have that ring. You have heard that other person make that step and commmittment for you. Those are just my defenses from my corner of beliefs that I'm waiting till marriage. It shows you care enough about that other person to say, "I am not giving myself and have not given myself to anyone but you." awwww, hehe Czas na Zywiec 03-24-2002, 09:13 PM Originally posted by sue z q The problem with saying stuff like "when you feel you're ready" "there's no one age" "do what's best for you" is that people don't know when they're ready. (sexual mores are not constant...there are some cultures where sex is encouraged and endorsed at around age 8). I do not, however, think it is necessary to wait until marriage. But that is according to my own personal moral compass, each person has their own. Personally, I think it is better to wait to do it with someone you love, and who you know loves you. That is what I did and I can honestly say I do not have any regrets about my first time. However, I don't hold to the idea that all sex you ever have necessarily has to be with someone you love, I just think it's better if the first time is with someone you love. The problem, I think, with waiting until marriage, is that it may cause some people to rush into a marriage before they are ready. There is all this talk about the responsibility and emotion involved in loosing your virginity, but there is also a great deal of responsibility involved in marriage that I think many people tend to overlook. I personally do not see the reasoning behind waiting for a slip of paper and a ring, especially if you've been with the person for awhile. I have been with my boyfriend for 5 years, and we have discussed marriage but we both want to wait until we are out of school, on our own, able to support ourselves, and able to pay for our own wedding. Now at the rate we're going, it's probably going to be another 4 years before we're at that point  but I think it's better to not rush into marriage. Blair85 03-25-2002, 05:23 PM I'm so glad to hear that most of you believe in waiting until you are married or in love. Yes 14 is way too young to be having sex, but I know a lot of my friends were doing it at that age. Personally, I think it's wrong and people should wait until they are married. Anyway, there's so much responsibility w/ sex like pregnancy, ewwww diseases, and emotions. Around here, people just act like sex is just for fun, and I bet most of the people in my school aren't virgins. I think there are about five or six teenage mothers (some more are still pregnant) just in my grade! A lot of girls had babies in junior high. One girl had a kid in 6th grade! It's sad because I think there's only about 300 people in my school. People act like it is the "norm" around here, and some of my teachers said that the county has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in the whole U.S.!!!!! I guess it's because I live in Hicksville U.S.A....I don't even want to get started about all the diseases people say are around here....Everyone says there is a lot of hepititis. Anyway, yes 14 is way too young for sex. Please wait a while!!! Kitt 03-25-2002, 05:43 PM Blair, is anyone taking on the responsibility for teaching sex education in your county? Parents, schools, the druggist, the manacurist, the pet store owner, the school valedictorian, the librarian, churches, or... maybe even the local doctors and nurses? In healh class we learned about birth control and all, and there's even a clinic in my school where they give away free birth control!!!! I live in a very depressed area where there are hardly no jobs or anything, but that doesn't mean all the teenage girls should get pregnant! We don't have manacurists or pet shops, but there's plenty of churches that should help or something! I don't know, this place is weird. I don't think it's like other small towns. I hate to say that but "1 million people, 15 last names" is not really a joke. I'm not like that though! No one else in my town even has the same surname as me but my Mom. WEll I've said enough for now. Please pray for my town or something. I was beginning to think all places were like this!!!! Jinny Girl 03-26-2002, 12:52 AM Well Im in the 8th grade (im 13 so whoo hoo) and i dont know who is and who isnt a virgin but it think there are at leadt 2 out of 63 who arent. my freind was in the car and was like "Ok I know soemthing about what frank and sarah did and... I cant tell u what but its a big deal and... AHHHHHHHHH Im gonna go crazy" and we continued to talk and i continued to pry and i said "Well was it illegal!?" and she was like "... In some states." and i was like "oooooo." and she was like YAAAAAA!. So that was scary considering I wouldn never sleep with either of them... because... ew I dont think many people would... my freind and I argue about sex and the impotance of waiting till ur married and she said that she has to or she'll go to hell, BUT, if the most popular hottest guy in school wanted to she would do it. My theory is do it if u really want to and try not to get pregnant because in catholic school... they wont let u take a leave of absense for pregnancy. I KNOW everyone wants to have sex eccept for my one freind who still says "EWWWWWWWW" about it (the one who will onyl sleep with the popular guy)... One time last yr I was walking down the hall and heard to 8th graders (9th graders now) talking and one was like "God I wanna have sex sooooo bad" and I had to walk really fast to keep from lafin but... well it was funny if u heard him. Anyway, whether I say I will or not, knowing me as well as i do, chances are I will not leave high school a virgin... which i wouldnt even wanna do in the first place.. But still in all honesty Id do it now if... umm, a decent guy showed up in this town which aint gonna happen. Oh well Next yr Ill have alot of nice catholic guys around. I think I'll prey on the actually religious ones and completely mess up their morals. Actually i said id sleep with Tucker Whelchel (LW;s son) just to make her mad... She'd probably try to kill me with a broom. Ok as alot of u know IM WEIIIIIIIIRD so ignore anything I just said. U should never take a lunatic seriously. Because if I ruled the world people would all have white hair with zebra stiped and girls would wear baggy pants and guys would wear skirts and jewlery and cows would help me rule and EVERYONE WOULD BE NAMED CUCUMBER!!! MWAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA! HAHAHAHA! HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! -Ahem- Ok. theshark8777 03-26-2002, 11:49 AM I think 14 is too young also. She's like, "Do you know people who have done it??" and all that. I'm like yeah, but I think that it's wrong until you're married. She looked at me like, yeah, right. Then, when my whole family was in town for my confirmation, we were talking about when my little brother hurt himself, and my mom goes, "Well...as bad as that hurt, sex hurts a lot worse, right everyone??" everyone looked at her like she was crazy, and between you and me, she is. She's on this crusade to make me not have sex. I keep telling her that she has nothing to worry about, but then again, maybe that's what everyone tells their parents when they are doing it and trying to keep it a secret. BTW...I only know one (possibly) pregnant girl. She's been my best friend since we were about 1, and she had sex once and she took a test yesterday and it was positive. I keep trying to convince myself that those things are wrong all of the time. They are, aren't they??? Sitcomwriter 09-04-2002, 08:31 PM I've always said "Wait till your married". Krystal Lake 09-04-2002, 09:32 PM There is no "right" age. It's whenever you feel you're ready for it. Think about it carefully though. You might not be ready when you think you are. Consider all possibilities. And if you have ANY doubt, don't do it. Use a condom, and get on birth control (or make sure the girl is*.) I can't stress enough about using both forms of contraceptives. Aside from all the disease risks, I've seen three of my friends get pregnant when they were on the pill. It's not fool-proof, and if you are damn sure you don't want kids you'll be smart and use both. *Don't always believe the girl is on birth control just because she says so, guys. Make her show you her prescription. It sounds very untrusting and she might get offended if you bring it up the wrong way, but you can never be too careful. Also talk about ALL the possibilities with your partner before you do it. This might save you headaches and/or child support money later. Just trust me on this one. Kristina 09-04-2002, 09:35 PM I think if two people feel the same way about each other and love each other than go for it! Can you imagine what it would be like to be 14 and have a kid already? You haven't really had a chance to live at 14. I've seen it before- all the fun ceases to a close when the baby comes along. You are the only one that can determine if the age is right for you. I would atleast wait and get to know a guy really well before doing anything though. Even if you think you know a person, it could all get shot to hell. I've had numerous friends that got pregnant with a guy they thought the knew soooooooo well and the guy ditched em when the words "I'm pregnant" came out of their mouth. That was 6 years ago now, & if the girl would've stayed in school, she'd be a senior & her child would be starting school..There's A LOT of hepititis & aids where I live too. I like go to school in a body condom. ¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 09-04-2002, 11:20 PM Ok. My turn. Im 18, and yes a virgin. Im not going to wait til Im married (what if I NEVER get married?!), but then again I might- Im not in a relationship nor have I been in one before, so its kind of hard for me to say. Ive always promised myself and I think everyone should too (IMO!) to have sex after school. Not, not after 7th period, but after you graduate. That way, you are all done with school, so you cant mess up your life. Getting pregnant while still in school is a complete waste of an education if you ask me, unless of course you were raped, or for some odd reason wanted a kid @ the time. And sex on prom night? Totally over-rated. 14 and having sex? Ew. Yea, when I was 14 I was always thinking of sex etc. (No, I wasnt a horny lil tease lol), but I knew I would never want to do it @ the time. I think its totally distgusting when I see, like, 12-14 year old punk boys on Jenny Jones etc. bragging about their sex life. My God! By the time theyre 20 theyll have enough STD's for their whole town. And a 14 yr old boy having sex in the first place? First off, he probably has NO idea what to do, and second, if he does, he probably SUCKS at it! 5 minutes? OMG lol is even enough time to....nevermind! You get the picture. Basically I feel ATLEAST wait til you are all done with school, then maybe marraige. I am class of 2002, and I remember the freshmans motto (they were class of 2003) was: The beer is cheap, the sex is free, we're the class of 2003! (sexual mores are not constant...there are some cultures where sex is encouraged and endorsed at around age 8). One of my friends actually has a "theory" about this. She says that in "olden days" people got married a lot earlier, and therefore had kids earlier. If you were married at 16 (in many cultures and whatnot, the average age for getting married was much earlier..), then you would be having sex at 16. Nowadays, people get married much later, but start having sex around the same age..mid to late teens. We all just do the best we can. if you choose to have sex prior to or any time outside of marriage, and many of you who say you won't may find that you will, than educate yourself on the subject. Don't bury your head in the sand or go along with the mind-control "Abstinance only" type of so called education, which doesn't face up to, or prepare people for the realities of life. The abstinance only promotion is a terrible burden on the psyche of young people and leads to confusing feelings of guilt. It's fine to try to follow that path but there's no reason not to learn as much as you can about any eventuallity that might come to pass. I think people do it to fit in. Sally just had sex with John. Greg did it with Mona. I must admit that a person could feel like an outcast if he/she thinks they are the only virgin in the school. I think a person thinks that when they have sex then they become more of a person. I'm not sure if I worded that correctly. It's like when a person takes a drink of alcohol, they kind of get the feeling they are in charge now and that nobody can tell them what to do anymore. I think sex at a young age should be kept behind closed doors. If people didn't have the urge to brag about it, I don't think people would label people a whore or slut or player. The people I went to school with probably thought of it more as a plaque then they did anything else. Sally could go giggling to her girlfriends saying that she just bedded the quarterback and then say how good he was in bed. Sex is supposed to be a beautiful thing, but I believe when you are 14 or something you are looking more for recognition than having a true relationship. The same with the guys in my school. If they saw a situation where they could, then they would. Then they would go back to their friends and say how he got the head cheerleader and how good she was in the sex dept.
