View Full Version : "Adams Ribs" treky 04-12-2015, 02:58 AM why wasn't Frank in this episode? Chocolate Moose 04-13-2015, 09:23 AM Gosh, I love that episode !!!!! Mood Ring 04-24-2015, 06:35 PM I didn't miss him and this episode certainly didn't need him. This is one of my favorites. Great episode! Great writing too. http://s53.podbean.com/pb/b03865890d9770c8957e71fbb9b60493/553ac5b2/data1/blogs25/324517/uploads/AdamsRibs.jpg treky 04-24-2015, 08:11 PM yea, I agree that it didn't need him or Hot Lips. It's also one of my favorites from those first 3 years which were the best ones! (they made a HUUUGE mistake by letting A.A. take over the typewriter and directors chair) Mood Ring 04-27-2015, 05:42 PM yea, I agree that it didn't need him or Hot Lips. (they made a HUUUGE mistake by letting A.A. take over the typewriter and directors chair) I think the majority of MASH fans would agree with all this. They had a few good episodes after the 3rd season, but it was nothing like those early episodes. Started to change after Henry died. After BJ arrived... :( Doug-oh 11-22-2015, 09:51 PM Originally Posted by treky yea, I agree that it didn't need him or Hot Lips. After BJ arrived... :( The last 2 seasons, with the exception of the finale and a few eps., were very average with some episodes almost pathetic. "Snap Judgement," which they made into a TWO-PART STORYLINE !!!! was among the worst. It wasn't bad because of Jamie Farr's acting, but due to the insufferably weak & trite script. Doug-oh 11-22-2015, 09:55 PM why wasn't Frank in this episode? Hot Lips was noticeably absent too. Interesting they couldn't state both were away or something, like frequently happened with Radar when he was noticeably absent from many episodes in the latter years. spunkygirl 05-21-2016, 06:16 PM (they made a HUUUGE mistake by letting A.A. take over the typewriter and directors chair) No they didn't. Some just like to whine cause heaven forbid they get entertained and learn something in the process  TVQuack 05-21-2016, 10:06 PM One of my favorite episodes! "Let's eat!!!!" opus 05-21-2016, 10:14 PM This episode always makes me hungry. treky 05-22-2016, 02:06 AM I always wonder whenever I see that one if they ever got to eat the ribs and if so how'd they heat them up? And if not, what'd they do with them? treky 05-22-2016, 02:09 AM agree, though there were humorous moments/eps. in the later ones, just fewer and a different type of humor. "Snap Judgement," which they made into a TWO-PART STORYLINE !!!! was among the worst. Dr. Thong 05-22-2016, 10:48 AM Neither of the majors are in it. My guess would be that the script was so tight that more people would just be in the way. Either that, or Linville and Swit were only contracted to do a certain number of episodes per season and they wanted to use them for other episodes. I think the episode is just fine without them. I always loved the fact that they were able to build an entire episode around Hawkeye's obsession with spare ribs from a Chicago eatery. However, if I was Hawkeye, I would have grabbed at least a rib to chow down on as they went to go treat the wounded. ;) Edward216 05-23-2016, 12:24 AM I agree spunkygirl, I don't know why people have to complain about Alan Alda writing and directing for MASH. I think all through its run (mostly) it was very funny and touching. Yes there are episodes of MASH I don't like. But I'm sure everybody can say that about any TV sitcom they like. One of the most consistently smart and funny sitcoms ever. Ed. treky 05-24-2016, 03:02 AM well you have to admit that; especially in the last couple seasons it got too much of "we're doctors and we're nurses and we're so good cause we save lives...and death is such a bummer and war is hell..." and this, that and the other.  Dr. Thong 05-24-2016, 04:15 PM well you have to admit that; especially in the last couple seasons it got too much of "we're doctors and we're nurses and we're so good cause we save lives...and death is such a bummer and war is hell..." and this, that and the other.  M*A*S*H is my all-time favorite show, but yes, there is some truth in what you said. visaman666 05-24-2016, 11:41 PM I FORGOT ABOUT THE COLE SLAW!! opus 05-25-2016, 12:25 AM I FORGOT ABOUT THE COLE SLAW!! You're a draftee, we forgive you. Dr. Thong 05-25-2016, 03:07 PM I FORGOT ABOUT THE COLE SLAW!! "You sent all the way to Chicago, and no cole slaw?" Yong Fang 05-26-2016, 02:04 AM Well, Cole slaw is pretty easy to make, and the ingredients are cheap and would be readily available. Cabbage, carrot, and mayonnaise. In Korea, just eat the Kimshee. Kimshee kicks ass. If you don't like the heat (and a lot of them are not hot), it can be easily subtracted. I wouldn't think beans would be much of a trick either. Didn't the military feed a lot of beans to the troops? My beans are just Heinz Baked beans, a squirt of Heinz (because Hunts sucks) BBQ sauce, some fresh or cooked finely sliced onions and finely sliced bell peppers. The ribs would be the most difficult in that Universe simply because it takes a period of time to cook them and smoke them correctly (could build a meat smoker if they can make a gin still), but the smell would be intoxicating to the rest of the camp vs. probably the scarcity of meat, "having liver and fish 14 days in a row". treky 05-26-2016, 03:11 AM You're a draftee, we forgive you. the line was "Forgive us we're draftees." Heenan Fan 02-16-2017, 09:01 PM No they didn't. Some just like to whine cause heaven forbid they get entertained and learn something in the process  There was nothing entertaining or educational about the Alan Alda penned MASH episodes. Though AA penned SOME good ones, many were moralistic. His constant whining about how bad war is, why can't we all get along, etc., quickly became annoying. treky 02-21-2017, 01:14 AM Agree. Who are sheltered Hollywood liberals to teach anyone anything? Heenan Fan 04-12-2017, 04:55 PM Almost eerything after Radar left was particularly bad in my opinion. Doug-oh 05-21-2017, 09:29 PM Almost eerything after Radar left was particularly bad in my opinion. Agreed. The series should have ended after Radar left. The show was really a shell of itself after. Though it was declining even when Radar was there, it still had its moments. While there were some funny eps, like the one where everyone has insomnia during a heat wave, too many trite scripts ruined the later seasons. The departure of Larry Linville really hurt the show. Even his last season wasn't great because of the weaker writing & the emasculating of his character. visaman666 05-22-2017, 01:44 AM The question is where were the going to store the side of beef? When they got it, they put it in the shower to thaw it out. In the early 50s they would be eating canned rations from WW2. Dr. Thong 05-22-2017, 05:13 PM Agreed. Even his last season wasn't great because of the weaker writing & the emasculating of his character. Even Larry Gelbart acknowledged they were shortchaging Larry Linville, because the character wouldn't be capable of growing like the others. Larry Linville said once a fan asked him why his character didn't evolved he replied by saying "What do you want him to be, Alan Alda?" |
