I dunno. This has the makings of a disaster even if I did enjoy Coach back in the day and often hold it up as one of the most underappreciated sitcoms of that era.

Boy Meets World has held up a lot better than Coach, which hasn't been syndicated in like 10 years now and hasn't even fully been released on DVD because of low interest. Of all of the sitcoms to reboot, I'm confused as to why they chose this one.

It's also on Netflix which helps its cause, but still, it seems like a pretty random choice. Especially considering it didn't originally air on NBC!

how does that matter? THE ODD COUPLE didn't air on CBS originally.

how does that matter? THE ODD COUPLE didn't air on CBS originally.

Both Coach and the original 1970 version of The Odd Couple originally aired on the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) Network. The revival versions of the series do not, because the production company of the original series now happen to be under common ownership of a competing network.

Don't you think you're complicating things by asking "how things matter"? The truth is, it's not right to pretend that an old show produced by a production company aired on a network that owns both the program and the production company today rather than the network that originally aired it. You can't deny that the show aired on a network other than the one that currently owns it.

Also, this according to Deadline:

I hear all four major broadcast networks lined up to hear the pitch, which was taken out to NBC first because of its ties to Uni TV. I hear the network went aggressively after the comedy, buying it pre-emptively with a 13-episode on-air commitment.

So NBC just kinda jumped the gun and won't let ABC (Coach's original network) have a chance at the revival?

I never thought Coach was that funny of a show... It was IMHO always kind of boring. I don't get all the love for this show. There are many other shows much more suited for a revamp.

I wasn't a mega-fan of Coach, but I'd give the reboot a chance.

All of these reboots remind me of the 80s reboots like The New Gidget, The New WKRP in in Cincinnati, and What's Happenning Now!!

His two sidekicks were what made the show funny. It might work if they comeback. Did he have a son on the show? I remember his daughter but not a son.

Yeah, for as much as I like and admire Craig T. Nelson as an actor and for as well as I thought he did on Coach the other two WERE the show. Jerry Van Dyke especially! The episide where he spills grape juice, cranberry juice whatever kind it was on the floor of Christine's apartment is one of the funniest scenes in TV I've seen. It's even funnier that he just kept making the mess avd stain from the juice worse!

I sure give NBC credit for ordering this direct to series..They will definitely get a season pass out of me on iTunes for this that's for sure! The great thing about NBC right now is their ratings are so screwed and so down the crapper they're willing to try all kinds of crazy stuff like this. They pretty much HAVE to now. It's like why not? Might as well try! They probably figured they're so screwed now they've got nothing else to lose. I enjoyed Coach and Will be there for the sequel show.

For this to have any shot though they absolutely need the other two guys on board to some capacity. Bill Fagerbakke should be okay to do it. I hope despite his age Jerry will be willing and want to. Think about this...Craig is 71, Shelley Fabares is in her early 70s too. Jerry will be 84 this year!! So, if this takes off for a while NBC better hope they all stay in good health and are able to work for a while!

This was a good "Plan B" in the wake of losing Cosby I'll admit that. I can't wait to see what else NBC will try to bring back next! Surely they're not done with this wackiness yet! Anything possibke for a reboot after this.

Well, it looks like you'll be getting your wish on 2 of those. Full House reboot is in development and I imagine that'll be a Spring 2016 show if it does get a network. Patrick Duffy has expressed strong interest in and definitely wants to do Step By Step. He's trying to get that to happen.

Jaleel White has been expressing interest in playing Steve Urkel again so there's buzz they're going to try bringing Family Matters back too. Finally. Bronson Pinchot has said he'd like to do Balki again so that's beings explored as well. If all 4 of those really get off the ground and on a network next year could be really damn interesting and potentially very good for TV.

Sounds like they're rebooting TGIF, that will bring back some great memories. Also I think Duffy just wants back on TV, Dallas don't work so he moved on to his other hit.

Exactly..looks like Paul Lee at ABC is finally really ready to try rebooting TGIF with a full effort. Seems to understabd he can't half ass it this time and needs to go all out. From everything I'm reading recently that's exactly what he wants to do and is trying to get these older shows back. He definitely needs Girl Meets World for this to really work though. As that show progresses they're wanting to deal with more serious issues like BMW did. They're talking about adding a gay character into that show too! I can't see Disney Channel just going oh yeah no problem guys go ahead! If they're really wanting to deal with serious issues its gonna have to move to ABC for that.

I'm sure Dallas recently ending is why Patrick Duffy is really wanting to do Step By Step again. Wants to stay on TV and popular. I don't blame him really. He looks FANTASTIC for his age and is in excellent shape so if he wants to do this he should. Same motivation for Jaleel White and Bronson Pinchot. It's been even longer since they've had steady TV work so I get it with them too. So, if Paul is serious this time and can get all these shows back hell yes I'll be there for and support them! Yes I'll even probably think about being not available on Friday nights at whatever job I'm working at next year when all this is supposedly premiering  I think I may seriously do that, TGIF WAS Friday night and the start of the weekend for many for so many years..I think Id want as much of that experience back as possible.

Full House may be in development but there are hundreds of shows in development each year that don't get picked up. The difference with Coach is NBC already picked it up to series. And the other 3 you mention only have a star wanting to come back, nothing official. Plus ABC wins most Friday nights on the strength of Shark Tank airing at 9:00, it is the only Friday show that hits 2s anymore. If TGIF does happen to come back it would just be for the 8:00PM hour.

From what I've heard, none of the original cast except Craig T. Nelson will appear on the show. The focus apparently is going to be on Hayden Fox and his son who is now a coach, and Hayden will be his assistant coach. They have apparently not cast a wife for Hayden and Shelley Fabraes is not expected to appear; she has all but retired from acting.

Ooof there's the punch to the gut on this project I was bracing for and expected :( I'm still looking forward to it and will watch it but I'll be real honest: hearing this news makes my hopes for this show go WAY down. Probably won't get past the initial 13 episode order but we'll see. I understand it, Shelly's retired, who knows what Bill Fagerbakke is doing now and Jerry is about to turn 84. Sure he just wants to take it easy and I imagine he's done now too. He earned his retirement and I respect that. Was still hoping maybe the other two guys will be involved.

I guess I'll have to go into this understanding it might have a few funny moments but probably won't last long. If I do that I'm sure it'll be a good late night time killer for a few days. Guess this won't be the big hit NBC needs either :( I just don't know what they could put forward now that might take off in terms of a sitcom.

What I haven't heard yet, and will determine if I enjoy this or not; is if they are doing it as a multi-camera or single-camera series. I'd really like to see them stick with the multi-camera set-up of the original... But something tells me they are going to go single-camera and ruin the whole thing.

Anytime an actor reprises a role of a main character, there's a decent chance that some the old, supporting cast members will pop up from time to time. Even if just for not much more than cameos.

So unless the new series gets canned early, you can expect to see Dauber, Luther, Kelly, and Christine worked into episodes -- if even in very limited ways.

Maybe Judy or Howard will pop up also, etc. -- we'll just have to wait and see if anything materializes. Regardless of what the press info says about the focus of the new series.

That's what im hoping for too, and the best way NBC can help the project take off so it can build an audience. I imagine this is a 2016 show so they've got plenty of time to put something good together and hopefully not screw it up!

I hope it's a multi-cam with the studio audience too, which would be the best way to make it as easy as possible on everyone involved Id think. It's very hard for me personally to imagine Coach as a single cam in any way. Then again, look what NBC did with The MJF Show-should have been one of the break out hits they're desperately needing. But, rather then put him in a good multi cam with a good premise for a foundation and a studio audience to play off of NBC decided it'd be great to throw him in this bizarre, awful single cam that just wasn't a good fit for him from a creative standpoint. Had they gone with a multi cam project for him like they shoulda it'd probably still be on doing quite well for them. Let's hope they get this one right!

I do plan on watching the NBC version but it probably won't be the same if Craig T. Nelson is the only original cast member. The new page should have said Coach on NBC and been separate from the original like CBS has with The Odd Couple.

It could go different ways. The could have him as a widower or say they split up OR they may just omit mentioning her. Some shows wrote people out and they just weren't mentioned again. Poof, it never happened, One example was The Doris Day Show. They had her as a widow living with her father on a farm and she had two sons. In later seasons she was living alone in the city with a job but no more sons and dad. REALLY odd.

IMO the magic of that show is gone, remakes seldom make it....at least they don't work for those who truly loved the original show.
