PRIDE, LA (WAFB) -
Family members say Donna Douglas passed away this morning at the age of 81.
Douglas was an actress, best known for her role as Elly May Clampett, the only daughter of Jed Clampett, in the CBS television series The Beverly Hillbillies.
In 2011, Douglas sued toy manufacturer Mattel Inc., claiming the company used her name and likeness for a Barbie doll without authorization. The suit was settled.
She was born in 1933, in Pride, LA and lived in Zachary, LA.
Douglas attended St. Gerard High School, a Roman Catholic school, where she played softball and basketball. She was a member of the school's first graduating class.
She was a "Miss Baton Rouge" and was named "Miss New Orleans" in 1957.

Donna Douglas -- who famously portrayed Elly May Clampett on the legendary 60s TV series "The Beverly Hillbillies" -- passed away Thursday at her home in Louisiana with friends and family by her side.
Douglas' granddaughter confirmed the death to TMZ.
Donna starred on "The Beverly Hillbillies" for all nine seasons and even returned for the 1981 reunion TV movie.
Douglas also appeared in several other iconic TV series, including "Mister Ed," "The Twilight Zone," "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet," "Adam 12," and "Route 66."
She also co-starred with Elvis Presley in "Frankie and Johnny."
Douglas filed two famous lawsuits over the years. In the 1990s, she sued Disney claiming they stole the idea for "Sister Act" from her. In 2011, she sued Mattel for making a Barbie doll with her likeness without her permission. She lost the "Sister Act" case and settled the Barbie case.
Donna was 81.
Marvo301 01-02-2015, 03:16 PM This makes Max Baer Jr. the sole survivor of the Beverly Hillbillies cast. I always envied Ellie May's ability to get along with "critters" and I understand Donna had a similiar affinity with animals in real life. May she :rip:
Mr. Television 01-02-2015, 03:33 PM So very sad. She was such a lovely girl both inside and out. R.I.P. Donna. Say Hi to Granny, Uncle Jed, Mr. Drysdale and Miss Jane. :(

Max Baer Jr., who co-starred with Donna Douglas on The Beverly Hillbillies, tells RumorFix, “I loved her.”
Coming from the 77-year-old, that means a lot, because he says, “I’m such a bastard that if you’re a d**k when your living — you’re a dead d**k.” But he says that wasn’t the case with the 81-year-old actress, who died of pancreatic cancer Thursday at her home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
“She was Elly May until the day she died,” he tells us exclusively. “When I saw her for autograph signings or other gatherings, she always dressed the same with pink or blue” and of course those signature pigtails.
Max, who was the youngest star on the show, says, “I spoke to her on a semi-regular basis. We weren’t the kind of people who would text, but we would call each other when there was something to share.”
The Beverly Hillbillies star says the last time he saw the blonde beauty was in January 2013 for an autograph signing in Los Angeles. And, he didn’t know she was sick until she passed away.
Max says Donna had pancreatic cancer for the past four months, “but she was a very private person — nothing like me.” A friend told him Donna had a message for him: “Tell Maxie I thought I was going to get better.”
The actor, who still embraces Jethro, has fond memories of Donna and the show that made him famous: “Some of those shows — if you didn’t laugh, you had to be a pretty strange person. They were as much slapstick as Chaplin.”
With a sad tone in his voice, Max says, “I’m the last man standing. All the actors, producers — everybody on the show is gone.”

Bonniegirl 01-02-2015, 04:31 PM Very sad. I don't think of her as being that old, and now she has passed.
RIP, sweet country girl, Donna /Elly Mae

I was going to ask who was still alive from that show, but Max answered that question for me.
ThomasE 01-02-2015, 07:29 PM All the best to the family. I am glad that she was able to make it through into the New Year. Wonderful lady.

Smiley13 01-02-2015, 11:00 PM I guess I never realized that Donna was four years older than Max. I always enjoyed her performances as Elly May.

You're right but I was thinking of 2015.
Flying Dutchman 01-03-2015, 01:29 AM The biggest part of the budget to any Hal Wallis movie with Elvis, was Elvis's salary. 1 million dollars. So all Hal could afford to hire for his co stars were TV actresses, who demanded much less than the big screen stars. Donna was chosen for Frankie and Johnny. Elvis said he really loved working with her, that she was a sweetheart of a gal. R.I.P.Mrs Douglas.
ILuvCarolBurnett 01-03-2015, 02:02 AM I had the privilege of meeting her a few times over the last 25 or so years. Very nice lady. A truly dear soul and very special Christian. She is now with the Lord. Bless you Donna. You will be very missed.

Rest in blissful peace, Donna Douglas and GodSpeed healing to all of your loved ones.❤️
ponytail 01-03-2015, 06:02 AM What sad news. Donna was my favorite on The Beverly Hillbillies. A sweet, kind soul.
PracTz 01-03-2015, 03:13 PM I always liked her and am sorry that she's no longer with us. However; I think it should be added that one thing she had in common with her most famous role was that she DID love critters [and critters can TELL if you don't especially onscreen]. However; there were a couple of exceptions for good reason which I'll mention: once she was due to film a scene in the 'see-ment' pond riding a hippo and the hippo in question could only be 'tamed' by having its elephant companion that it had grown up with as close as possible. Long-short is that after some hemming and hawing, they got the elephant's trunk into the water [just out of camera range] to get the hippo happy and the two celebrated by giving into natures call to a HUGE extent in the water. Since it was getting close to sundown, the props folks decided they'd better get that shot in a hurry and neglected to tell Miss Douglas what these two had done in the water- just saying that the water was now a pretty shade of green. Being a pro, she rode the hippo and did the shot as they wanted but the next day, found out that happened AND gave the director a good whack! I just hope she was able to get a long shower before going home. RIP, Miss Douglas whose beauty was more than skin deep.
A huge loss. I loved her as Elle May and she was so beautiful. RIP

I had a friend who also died of Pancreatic Cancer and once you get it you go down hill fast.
stanwyckfan07 09-28-2015, 07:16 PM I was devastated by the news of her death even though she was blessed with a longer than average life. Donna was probably my number one favorite as a child. People born after TBH just have no idea of personally popular Donna Douglas was with the public during the show's run, she was on scores of magazine covers including every one of the TBH's 9 TV Guide covers which has to make her among the ten or twenty women most often on TV Guide.
Donna was always so kind and open to her fans, I never got to meet her but she signed for me twice in the mail and I've collected clippings on her for decades, so sad to add obituaries to my files and scrapbooks on her. RIP to one of the most beautiful women in tv history and a lovely soul who won't be forgotten. I was very pleased to see the Emmys gave her a major place on the memorial reel this year, I don't think her passing got the press and tv coverage it deserved given she starred on one of TV's greatest hits for almost a decade.
ILuvCarolBurnett 09-28-2015, 07:30 PM I would love to have seen the tribute to her on the Emmys. Unfortunately, I haven't watched the Emmys in years.
stanwyckfan07 09-28-2015, 07:39 PM I only watched the Emmys (I've pretty much given up on current acting tv series so I haven't seen the Emmys myself before in many years) in hopes of seeing Donna in a memorial reel on the show and frankly was getting stressed they would snub her as the "Over the Rainbow" song went on and and on and no Donna but they saved her til near the end and she was the last person to get a "voice" (like all the major performers got in the tribute) other than Leonard Nimoy who closed the reel. I was happy the remembered her though saddened they overlooked Melody Patterson (F Troop), Yvonne Craig (Batman), and Lynn Anderson (Lawrence Welk show and scores of variety and country music appearances) although they sort of tributes do tend to overlook a few notables.
Haven't checked but the tribute reel may be on youtube, as people usually do tend to post those there.
ILuvCarolBurnett 09-28-2015, 07:42 PM It is amazing to me that Hollywood can still pat itself on the back and give out Emmys when TV is just so terrible now.
