They're both enjoyable to watch but some how the Munsters
are a lot more fun.

The Munsters'. I think Herman and Grandpa are hilarious. And the way they go on about Marilyn being so different. Cracks me up!

To me, "The Munsters" were fun. The Addams Family was too macabe. I think of the two shows combined, Herman Munster is by far the most memorable, lovable character

The Munsters has always been one of my favorites.
To me, The Munsters could just as easily be the Stone family on "The Donna Reed Show" or the Andersons on "Father Knows Best." It's just that looked like famous movie monsters and didn't know it. That irony and the fact that the world usually reacted to their appearance as bizarre or sometimes scary, made this show endlessly funny!
The Addams Family were weird intentionally. They knew it, too.
The Munsters wanted to fit in with the rest of the world; the Addams didn't. Anyway you get the idea.
The Addams Family was a Filmways Production, which gave it the "low-budget" handicap that all their shows seemed to suffer from, while the Munsters was made by Universal Studios, with good (for their time) special effects, plus most of the great movie monsters were born at Universal.

The Munsters, of course. In my opinion, it certainly was a lot more funnier than the Adam's Family. :)

I wonder how the results would come out if you asked this question on the Addam's Family Board? Most likely on this board, you will get nearly all votes for the Munsters including mine.

Fred Gwynne played a perfect "Frankenstein's monster" better known as Herman Munster. He was over 150 years old, but acted like a big dumb kid.

Al Lewis played a dynamite Count Dracula as the "Grandpa" and father of the Bride of Frankenstein, Lilly.

How could you not like little spoiled Eddie, who looked like he was turning into a werewolf?

And poor Marilyn, the ugly one of the family, whom they all worried if she would ever marry.

They had an uncle, too, who was the Creature From the Black Lagoon.

Except for Marilyn, the family looked like grusome characters from the Monster Movies of the 1940's. Their house was spooky looking, so this really gave visitors the impression that the house might be haunted.

In the Addam's Family on the other hand, their house was neat and clean. Most of the characters in their family didn't look too gruesome except for Lerch, Uncle Fester and Grand Mama.

Pugsy, Wednesday, Gomez, and Tricia looked fairly normal except for their clothing. "Thing" was special in the Addam's Family, and I thought "Cousin It" was funny, too (all hair and sunglasses.)

Overall the stories in the Munsters were better and the humor was higher.

I rate the Munsters a "10" and the Addam's Family a "7".

To everyone here who has never seen the The Addams Family, I really hope you get a chance to see it sometime. You probably would go more with the Addams'. In my opinion and many other people I know like the Addams' better. The Addams Family was by far more imaginative and funnier than the Munsters. Don't get me wrong, I like the Munsters, but it lacked imagination and seemed like a cartoon or a show for kids.

The Addams Family had more humanity and smarter dialogue. The scripts were fast paced and literate as they had a writer who originally wrote for the Marx Brothers. And no one can deny the tremendous sexual chemistry between Gomez and Morticia. Their love affair rivals Romeo and Juliet. Now there was a marraige you could believe in. Herman and Lily don't even come close. They were too anticeptic. The Munsters seemed like poor relations next to the Addams Family, who were a lot classier.

In response to the Addams Family having a "low budget", that is not true. The set designer of this show did "The Sound of Music" among other high budget films and spent a great deal on the elaborate set pieces.

It doesn't take as much skill or imagination to play a Frankenstien monster or a vampire, we all know what they are. The characters on the Addams Family were much more 3 dimensional and had a depth that the Munsters never had. They were also more loving, as there was never a fight between Gomez and Morticia or anyone else. Everyone was accepted regaurdless of their behavior as a psychiatrist once said "The Addams Family is the healthiest show on TV". They were more ahead their time. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

The Munsters had Pat Priest. The ADDams Family had no great blonbde bombshell. Reason enough outright to prefer THe Munsters. Also, AF was more obscure in terms of what they were all supposed to be. Were they actually supernatural or just really weird folks? Cousin Itt could have been a freak of nature. At least the Munsters were very obviously science experiments and supernatural creatures. THe Munsters was actually easier to relate to.

I agree. I saw episodes from Hallmark's AF marathon back in October and I have to say that AF is better. I like The Munsters but AF stands out to me. The reasons stated above are exactly the reasons I voted The Addams Family. I think it is a great show and it needs to be shown on TV more often or released on DVD.

Brian, AF is too hard for many to relate to. And there is no Pat Priest equal on there. The Munsters is the better show.
