View Full Version : American Versions of Foreign Shows HauntedThunderman94 12-20-2014, 08:46 PM Feel free to debate the best and worst American versions of your favorite shows here. HauntedThunderman94 12-21-2014, 03:30 PM The UK series "Broadchurch" I heard was much way better than its recently cancelled U.S version Gracepoint with David Tennant. Flying Dutchman 12-26-2014, 03:58 PM The U.S version of the UK comedy "Man About the House" Became Threes Company and I liked the U.S. Version (Threes Company) better. But I have seen Man about the House and it is very funny. HauntedThunderman94 03-31-2015, 03:48 PM Being Human. I saw the BBC version and thought it was fantastic (at least the first 2 or so seasons). The Americanized version left something to be desired. MrCleveland 03-31-2015, 03:51 PM I think the American Version of 'Till Death Do Us Part (All In The Family) is hands-down the best American Version of a Foreign Show Ever...The Office is second. UMFaninMD 03-31-2015, 07:41 PM I like Law & Order UK better than the American Law & Order. icecream 03-31-2015, 09:53 PM Weakest Link and The Chase are both British game shows that had American remakes. I haven't seen the British Chase but the American Weakest Link was a lot better than the British. treky 04-01-2015, 01:01 AM I think ALL IN THE FAMILY is way better than the UK show it was based on TILL DEATH US DO PART. JustaViewer 04-03-2015, 05:35 PM Being an Anglophile I have watched a lot of British comedy. The one show on American TV that was the closest to it's British counterpart was Sanford and Son. In the early years the episodes were almost word for word remakes of the British Steptoe and Son. But there were major differences. On the British series the pair are far more crueler to each other than Fred and Lamont. I would LOVE to see an American version of the Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. It would even be more relevant today than back in the 1980s. Coffeecup 04-03-2015, 06:06 PM I remember before Empty Nest was on, Richard Mulligan was in a show called Reggie and I thought it was a show based on a british show. Could it be the one mentioned above? JustaViewer 04-03-2015, 09:00 PM I remember before Empty Nest was on, Richard Mulligan was in a show called Reggie and I thought it was a show based on a british show. Could it be the one mentioned above? It was, but it never got beyond one episode. I think its available on Youtube. The Brits did a remake of their own with Martin Clunes, a fine actor but hopelessly miscast. JustaViewer 04-03-2015, 09:04 PM I think ALL IN THE FAMILY is way better than the UK show it was based on TILL DEATH US DO PART. According to Norman Lear he never actually watched the British version and only used the outline, everything else was based on the relationship he had with his father. DJM77 04-03-2015, 10:28 PM It was, but it never got beyond one episode. There were 6 episodes. MrCleveland 04-04-2015, 10:24 AM Britain's Keep it in the Family became America's Too Close for Comfort. BigManMike 04-04-2015, 12:39 PM Also there was a British show called the Fosters that was based off Good Times in the US. And I've always wondered what it would be like if there had been a British version of The Jeffersons. Coffeecup 04-04-2015, 06:07 PM It was, but it never got beyond one episode. I think its available on Youtube. The Brits did a remake of their own with Martin Clunes, a fine actor but hopelessly miscast. The REGGIE show I am thinking of had 6 episodes. Hmm, I remember seeing more than 1. Oh well, could be another show I am thinking of. |
