In the episode "Fist Full of Reasons" Peter is in his room with Mike Greg and Bobby, where he is feeling bad about backing down from Buddy Hinton's threat. Mike starts to talk to Peter about the benefits of reasoning instead of fighting, when Greg slams his fist into his other hand and says "If he bothers her again (Cindy) "I know how to handle him" Mike stops Greg saying "Now just a minute, Greg. This is Peters problem" It took the rest of the episode, and one black eye, for Peter to learn to fight and deal with Buddy.

But if Mike had let Greg handle it in the 1st place, do you think the teasing would have stopped allot sooner?

In one episode Greg scared the heck out of one of his friends, who wanted to start a roomer about Marcia, by telling the kid he would knock his head in. I believe Greg could have dealt with Buddy Hinton easily.

The problem is that Greg is older and bigger than Buddy so he would have ended up looking like a bully. That wouldn't have solved the issue and wouldn't have met with Mike and Carol's approval. So it was necessary for Peter who was the same age and size as Buddy to be the one to confront him.

No, when a bully picks on someone smaller the rules change. Maybe not on TV, but they do in real life. If a 10 year old picks on a 5 year old, a 15 year old has every right to step in.

I wasn't talking about real life. I was talking about the Brady universe. And in the Brady universe Mike and Carol would never have approved of Greg beating up a younger smaller boy. Even if he was a bully!

I'm sorry but if Pete was too afraid (which he was) and unable to stand up for his little sister than Greg should have been the one to do so. I know Peter beat him in the end, but it took too long to give that punk a taste of his own medicine - and Greg would have knocked the daylights out of him! Even after Peter got the black eye after taking Mike's suggestion with reasoning with him than he STILL wanted him to talk to him! That was totally assanine IMO. Bullies, even back then, have no sense or compassion and must be given a dose of their medicine, otherwise they continue to bully!

I can imagine Greg walking up to Buddy with an angry look. He grabs Buddy by the shirt, pulling Buddy toward him and looking him straight in the eye. Buddy as scared as he can be, says nothing as Greg goes on to say. "Now you listen to me Buddy! You leave my sister Cindy alone. Because if you don't? I will personally knock your head in. GET ME?" Then Greg pushes him back against the tree that Buddy likes to lean against. "Okay Greg" Buddy says back in a fearful stutter. Greg then walks away and that's it' It ended right there.

Greg wouldn't have had to beat the crap out of Buddy to get him to stop bullying...just the threat of doing so would have been sufficient... unless of course, Buddy had an older brother that as Greg's size.

The kid who played Buddy (Russell Schulman) did a very good job of playing a bully. There was also an episode of "The Andy Griffith Show" in which Schulman played a kid who was bullying the boy who played Ken Berry's son, Mike in the show. Opie (who was older by that time, it was a later-season episode) stepped in and got Schulman to stop bullying Mike, and Opie (of course) never had to throw a punch.

It's very likely that Buddy knew someone bigger than Greg and that guy would have knocked the daylights out of Greg. It would have eventually came down to Mike Brady fighting Buddy's Father (or Uncle).

Probably. Probably not. Buddy was always alone. Most bullies I knew, that have friends, will hang out with them so they can show off to them how tough they are. Besides, if he did have a bigger friend, he may have sent him after Peter for beating him up at the end. I really don't think Buddy had friends. Buddy was nobodies Buddy.

This fight between Peter and Buddy is sort of lampooned in the 1980 John Travolta film Urban Cowboy, where Travolta's character, Bud Davis (who won the grand prize for the bull riding contest at Gilley's), beats the heck out of ex-convict Wes Hightower for beating Sissy (Bud's wife). Initially, Sissy resists Bud's wanting to take out Wes.

I agree that Greg wouldn't have had to lay a finger on Buddy- his sheer presence alone would have sent Buddy running back to his inept parents!

This was one of the best episode of dealing with bullying which is still going on today

Greg had every right to step in and defend his sister against a bully. Buddy would have pissed his pants at the mere presence of Greg threatening him. I agree that Greg wouldn't even have to touch Buddy. Just threatening him would be enough.

What got me about that was Mr. Brady's silly nonsense telling Peter to try and talk to Buddy. You can't talk to a bully.
