"Homeland's" Sunday night companion, "The Affair", has been given a second season. The critically aclaimed drama will keep the infidelity going with 10 more episodes next year, despite never topping 700,000 viewers in overnight ratings.

But the good news is that "The Affair's" audience has grown considerably over the course of its first four episodes, indicating that positive word of mouth is out after it was called one of the fall's best new dramas by the press.

Showtime boss David Nevins acknowledged the relationship drama "premiered at a relatively low level" in October. However, he said there was already a "big surge" Sunday night shortly after "The Affair's" two Golden Globe wins for Best Drama Series and Best Actress in a Drama Series (Ruth Wilson).

To pick up more viewers, the network will begin rerunning episodes Fridays at 10/9c this winter. Speaking about the show's future after the events of Season 1, Nevins said "there's a very clean four-season arc and a trajectory beyond that."

Showtime has ordered more seasons of "Homeland" and "The Affair", the network announced Wednesday.

"The Affair's" second season introduced two new perspectives into the psychological family drama. And while executive producer Sarah Treem has previously said she conceived of the show as a three-season series, there's no guarantee that next season will be the last.
