Oregon mom who claimed she threw 6-year-old autistic son off bridge arrested after cops find body
Jillian McCabe was arrested after she called police and told them she tossed her 6-year-old severely autistic son, London, off the bridge. The 34-year-old mom was struggling to care for the boy and his father, who has multiple sclerosis, family said. On a now-defunct blog, the 34-year-old wrote about the challenges of raising a child with autism.

A one-time mommy blogger who claimed she threw her 6-year-old autistic son off an Oregon bridge was arrested after police found the tot’s body in the water.
Jillian Meredith McCabe was arrested Monday after she dialed 911 and told dispatchers she hurled her son, London, off the Yaquina Bay Bridge in Newport.
Police and firefighters searched the water below the bridge and found young London’s body around 10:20 p.m., about four hours after McCabe called 911.
McCabe was arrested at the bridge on suspicion of aggravated murder, murder and manslaughter, police said.
Jillian McCabe struggled to care for London ― who was non-verbal and severely autistic
and the boy’s father, who has multiple sclerosis, Andrew McCabe, London's uncle, told NBC News.
"They haven't had a lot of luck," he said.
Jillian McCabe set up a fundraising page after Matthew McCabe’s MS diagnosis to help with family expenses.
“Matt went from the sole bread winner and provider to not in a matter of 2 weeks,” she wrote. “I am scared and I am reaching out. I hope I am not coming across trashy or over-reactionary. I must explore every avenue to take care of my family right now.”
Before Matt McCabe’s diagnosis, the 34-year-old mom blogged about taking care of her severely autistic son.
“We started this blog, we wanted to use it to talk about what works for us as parents of a child with Autism, convey how hard it is, and to discuss what toys/equipment/things around the house that have been beneficial to London,” she wrote in 2012.
The blog has since been deleted.
Earlier this year, Matt McCabe wrote on a separate blog that he was living apart from Jillian McCabe.

This is insane! I feel that the disabled should be defended more since many of them unlike me can't defend themselves!
Bonniegirl 11-05-2014, 03:35 PM Very heartbreaking!! Terrible!!!!
Mr. Television 11-05-2014, 08:51 PM It's just disgusting. :ohno:
JamesG 11-05-2014, 09:47 PM The mother was clearly depressed and not thinking rationally.
So sad...
MrCleveland 11-06-2014, 03:15 PM As you all know...I have autism yet I'm high-functioning!
Hearing bad news about autistics makes me mad!
Vahan 11-06-2014, 03:19 PM Autism is nothing to to joke about, nor is it something people should use as an excuse to insult someone.
I have at least a little autism.
MacLeaper 11-06-2014, 04:15 PM Very sad to hear about. It's always sad to see such horrific examples of sin in the world...I pray for the family that God will touch their lives with His love through it all and bring them to faith in Jesus.
isiahthomas 11-08-2014, 12:50 PM I don't know why ignorant people diss and laugh at people that are mentally slow. That's not their fault that they were born like that. I love Rain Man movie with Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. Dustin was autistic and he did a very good job. He won a Oscar for that. Sean Penn also did a movie like that with Michelle Pfeiffer called Iam Sam and he was mentally slow. He did a good job. Cuba Gooding Jr did a movie called Radio and his character was mentally slow. He didn't talk that much but he loved football. Ed Harris who was the high school football coach started letting Cuba hang around him and the football players because he saw Cuba loved football. He even fed him a few times and one of the white men that was a parent of the football player got a little mad that Ed was letting Cuba hang around them. I think the white guy had a problem with Cuba because he was black and the movie took place in the south and ya'll know how whites in the south felt about blacks back in the day. Most whites are still racist towards blacks.
comedyfreak 11-09-2014, 07:36 AM So sad that she couldn't get help for her son before all this happened.

True...even some who are handicapped get it in their life...I was 1 when I was autistic, so I wasn't really born that way it may have came from the vaccinations.
The other thing is...unlike blacks, gays, and Jews...the disabled have less of a chance to defend themselves!
Furienna 11-14-2014, 03:25 PM Such a terrible story! :(
Dude111 11-14-2014, 10:28 PM This is insane! I feel that the disabled should be defended more since many of them unlike me can't defend themselves!Yes its very sad.... Probably got that way from a stupid vaccine :(
Poor boy........
Furienna 11-14-2014, 11:18 PM Wrong, Dude! You're born with autism, so you can't get it through vaccine.
Dude111 11-15-2014, 07:18 PM Well vaccines can make it worse!!!!!!!
Furienna 11-16-2014, 01:43 AM Excuse me, but I don't see any connection between autism and some vaccine. You're born autistic and will remain so for the rest of your life. And I don't see how some medication can "make it worse".

zypherix 11-16-2014, 09:10 AM Ah yes.. quoting a paranoid pro-drugs anti-vaccine anti-government blog makes your point seem even more valid. *facepalm*
The fact that they claim ebola isnt real just screams mental institution.
Furienna 11-16-2014, 09:21 AM Yes, I know that there was a scare about vaccine causing autism, but nobody with any experience with the disorder takes it seriously. If we go back a few decades, autism was believed to be caused by childhood traumas. But nobody seems to believe that anymore. There seems to be many misunderstandings going on about autism...

You were born with autism. It just wasn't realized until you were one.
MrCleveland 11-18-2014, 03:56 PM The vaccination thing was the story that I was told...it's probable, but I have NO answer to it, neither do scientists! It's STILL being debated after 30 years! It's also probable that people are born autistic because of all the processed foods people eat, the metals in people's homes, chemicals...it can be anything! The brain and backgrounds we have becomes concrete by the age of 3 or 4...reason why we don't remember much at this age because we knew TOO much with our nature/nurture concept!
I'm just saying whether you're someone who says "you're born autistic, you die autistic...concluded" or "it's from whatever"...MacLeaper here said it better...that's the cause of the fall of man!
We are ALL Born This Way...when it comes to Original Sin!
This is my opinion!
Dude111 11-19-2014, 03:42 AM Well its NOT GOOD injecting garbage into your immune system...... Why do you think we have an immune system??
NOT TO BE FILLED WITH CRAP THAT SHOULDNT BE THERE I can assure you!
Furienna 11-19-2014, 03:48 AM Well, vaccination has probably saved more lives than we can imagine. So I wouldn't call it "garbage".
MrCleveland 11-19-2014, 02:01 PM Okay...Okay...I didn't want this to be a debate on vaccinations!
I saw some of the vaccination conspiracy video and it came from the same people who say "sugar is gonna kill us"! I disagree with the sugar conspiracy...we give sugar to horses, dammit!
Autism is HIGHLY complex, reason why the jigsaw puzzle is a symbol for autism.

I don't know how to word this. I hope I don't come off ignorant or crass! I don't know that much , hardly anything at all about autism. The only people I know who have autism are a few young kids, nobody in my family or close friends, kids of neighbors, people I've worked with kids , like that.
So here goes. Mr. Cleveland what are the symptoms of autism? I know there is a broad spectrum and different degrees. If you didn't tell us here you were autistic, I would never know, you express yourself very well, and normally. What were the signs and how did they notice that you were autistic ? Jerry Seinfeld says he thinks he might be low spectrum autistic. Why would he think that I wonder? Again like I said I don't mean to sound rude I'm just curious!
Furienna 11-19-2014, 04:23 PM Like you said yourself, there are different degrees of autism. Some autistic people can't even speak, while others can live an almost ordinary life. But when you're autistic, you will have some problems with interaction. Like I have Asperger's syndrom, a pretty mild form of autism. But my guess is that most people will just see me as "excentric". I will behave oddly, have my own style and not always follow the rules. I used to have terrible outburts when I was younger, but I now seldom have them. Other common features with autism are that we often need strict routines, and many of us are also very much into special interests.
The 1988 movie "Rain Man" gives you a good example of a rather low-functioning autistic man, who has to live in an institution and can't take care of himself, but he can memorize a phone book and make advanced calculations in his head. And as for Asperger's, many "nerds" on TV shows and in movies probably have it. Steve Urkel from "Family Matters" comes to mind.
MrCleveland 11-19-2014, 04:44 PM I don't know how to word this. I hope I don't come off ignorant or crass! I don't know that much , hardly anything at all about autism. I have High-Functioning Autism (PDD-NOS) so most likely if I told someone I have autism, no one would know...hence the misunderstanding.
Here's something from autismspeaks.org that will help give some understanding and say it better than I can....
http://www.autismspeaks.org/what-autism/symptoms
I said one word by the age of 1, it was "cheese"...then for 2 years, I said nothing. That was when my parents knew something was wrong! I would say "peanut butter" by almost the age of 3.
My first sentence was something almost like what Gary Coleman would say..."what are you laughin at"? But I spoke without mistaking the words, I would say bus rather than butts, potty rather than polly, and trains rather than frains.
One book I feel should be read for people with autism and some disabilities is Leo the Late-Bloomer....
Bonniegirl 11-19-2014, 09:23 PM Thanks for giving me some insight Mr. Cleveland and Furienna. It's good that you two have high functioning Autism and Asperger's. I am sorry if you two were misunderstood and mistreated growing up .:( People need to be more understanding of other people!;)
I was never diagnosed , it wasn't really known about when I was growing up. Being a child in the 60's and early 70's. I think I had/have slight ADHD. I started talking very early, and talking, talking , talking. I was a little chatty Patty. :talk: I learned to read, write, do math with no problem but when it came to detail, my mind would wander, I got so bored at school as a little kid, I couldn't stop talking in class, couldn't stand just sitting at the desk all day, things like that. The teachers knew I was smart enough, they just thought I was being lazy in the schoolwork and disruptive . Back than they didn
't know about ADHD and kids with that were considered to be just be misbehaving and goofy! As I got older I got better, but I'm still scatterbrained and airheaded at times!!!

WOW! I didn't know or I forgot that you have Asperger's. Now I can see where you're coming from with being born autistic.
I have a friend who has Asperger's, they are usually considered Little Einsteins...or so I heard.
Furienna 11-20-2014, 02:07 PM "Little Einsteins", yes... Many people now wonder if Albert Einstein didn't have Asperger's, except that no one knew what it was during his lifetime. (Well, I believe the first research on the disorder was made in the 1940s, but it was restricted to children, and it was then forgotten until decades later.)

Maybe Thomas Edison may have had Asperger's as well...

Though I would amend it to "many", that last statement is still true, sadly. But we'll always have racism and hatred of people for whatever reason (in the case of this article, because of autism/Asperger's)- there's always something. I do believe that people can change though when they come to know the love of Jesus. When we are in a right relationship with Christ, He sets us to free to love others as we have been loved. And we are all equal in His eyes- all made in His image, all infinitely valuable and all eternally loved by Him.:)

We are ALL Born This Way...when it comes to Original Sin!
This is my opinion!
Thanks. I agree. Ultimately, disease, sickness and death was never intended to be part of the life experience. However, man's choice to sin in Genesis 3 brought all these evils into the world- it put the whole world under a curse. Of course, that's what Christmas is all about- when God sent Jesus to come and die and rise again to break the curse- and set us free from sin! And one day He will return to restore things to what He intended them to be all along- eternal happiness with Him- as Revelation 21:5 says, "Behold- I make all things new.":)
And I think as a follower of Christ, I am called to be part of that in the here and now- in living for God's glory and sharing His love with others and being part of the revolution and restoration He comes to bring-from the inside out.:)
Just to point out though- though for now sickness and death is part of the natural world that we live in, it's not always because of a punishment from God. As Jesus said to His disciples in John 9, the guy who was born blind wasn't born that way due to his sin or the sin of his parents. He was born that way so that God's glory could be shown in his life- which it was when Jesus came and healed him and opened his eyes so he could see again- and then testify to others of the goodness of God. And that is true whether the healing comes or not- God is always good and even if we don't see the physical healing we may want to see hear- we will see it in Heaven and there's no telling the spiritual healing and gains it may bring in the meantime as God uses those infirmities in our lives to remind us that His strength and power and grace is sufficient for us. When I am weak, then I am strong. :) (see Philippians 4:10-13 and 2 Corinthians 12:1-10)
isiahthomas 12-01-2014, 05:39 PM I was watching Forrest Gump movie today with Tom Hanks and I believe he was autistic. He may not have been autistic but he was mentally slow. That's a very good movie and Tom made me laugh the way he talked LOL. He also made me laugh the way he ran hahahahahahahahaha. I was wondering how come he had braces on his legs when he was a kid. His braces came off when he was running from some white bullies LOL. That was awful that the white bullies was bothering him when he wasn't bothering them. Tom won a Oscar for that and I didn't know that. I'm glad he won a Oscar. He's a good actor.
Furienna 12-01-2014, 08:27 PM Hmm... I'm not sure if I agree that Forrest Gump is autistic. And why do you keep saying "white bullies", when the main character was white as well?
Flying Dutchman 12-02-2014, 01:44 PM Forest possibly did have Autism. He displayed many autistic traits. There are many types of autism, and not all types are like Rain Man. But it is true that when many autistic people feel the need to do something for themselves, they do it until it's finished. Example. When Forest felt the need to Run all over america and did it for several months, he didn't tell anyone, he didn't give any warning, he didn't hesitate. He just did it because I felt like it. People with autism act in the same way. Forest, despite what everyone thought, only did it because he felt like it. People with autism don't do things for fanfare or recognition. They do it for themselves.
Autism is still a mystery and we, despite our efforts, still have only scratched the surface in our understanding.
If forest did have it, his was a mild autism. I know this because I personally have dealt with people who have autism, which includes my daughter.
Many Celebrities have children with autism as well. One I know for sure is, Julie Newmar (Cat Woman Batman 1966) Her son was born with it. Jenny McCarthy's son has it too. Jenny is a spokes person for kids with autism.
Furienna 12-02-2014, 01:59 PM Well, while I won't deny that Forrest hardly was "normal", I never saw him as typically autistic, like I have done with many other characters from movies and TV shows. But I guess I have to see the movie again to be sure.
isiahthomas 12-02-2014, 03:14 PM Furienna, I said white bullies because that's who was chasing Tom Hanks and they wouldn't leave him alone. I thought it was funny when Tom was running from them and his braces came off his legs so he could run faster LOL. I can't stand bullies whether they're black or white.
MrCleveland 12-02-2014, 04:28 PM Forrest Gump is my favorite film. Many people said he was either autistic or mentally challenged since he had an IQ of 70.
Furienna 12-02-2014, 04:40 PM Furienna, I said white bullies because that's who was chasing Tom Hanks and they wouldn't leave him alone. Then why mention their color at all?
zypherix 12-03-2014, 05:43 AM Then why mention their color at all?
Check his post history.. constant prejudice comments like those.
Flying Dutchman 12-03-2014, 01:02 PM In my attempt to explain my opinion of Forest Gump, I failed to answer the question posed in this thread. I apologize.
I believe hatred for people with autism stems from a limited, or non understanding of people with the disability. I myself have experienced such disrespect aimed at my daughter for her disability. To tell you the truth, I took the insults more personally then my daughter did because she simply didn't understand or comprehend it. People with autism simply do nothing for these people that insult them. They are in a series of people neither insulting them or pleasing them. But it has also been my understanding that these people who insult them, have much anger and hatred in their hearts.
My daughter is very happy, despite her disability. I don't believe the same is true for the people that insult her, or even hate her.
Furienna 12-03-2014, 01:34 PM To be fair though, I hardly think that so many people actually hate autistic people. It's more like you said, that they don't understand them.
MrCleveland 12-03-2014, 03:24 PM To be fair though, I hardly think that so many people actually hate autistic people. It's more like you said, that they don't understand them.
I left a forum site because someone who's pro-choice and supports same-sex marriage (I never met this person and never intend to) had a lot of gall to say "I have no time to review about autism".
And also had a lot of nerve to call me narrow-minded with my opinions!
Furienna 12-03-2014, 03:52 PM I see. Yeah, it is weird how the people, who claim to be so liberal and open-minded, can be very hateful.
JeffD 04-04-2019, 08:10 PM People who do not trust autistic people with savant syndrome are stupid in my opinion and are tectnically racist.
