It's with great sadness I announce that less than 2 months after its original announcer, Don Pardo, died, the "Saturday Night Live" family has lost another member of its troupe: Jan Hooks, who died today in New York City, New York.

Born on April 23, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, Jan spent 5 years on "Saturday Night Live" from 1986 - 1991 before leaving to succeed the departing Jean Smart and Delta Burke on the last 2 seasons of the hit '80s sitcom "Designing Women" until the series' 1993 cancellation.

The cause of death is yet to be determined.

Man that sucks, and she was one of the prettier female cast members on SNL.

I was shocked when I read the news. Way too young to die

Nealon and Hooks were dating when they each auditioned for “SNL" in 1986 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSxIHaGorYM&t=5m38s). "My girlfriend in the 80’s and my friend forever, Janners," Nealon tweeted tonight. "God, were you talented. Too soon and too sad.” PLUS: Jan Hooks was one of the “glue guys” (http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/celebrating-jan-hooks-one-of-saturday-night-lives-ultimate-glue-guys) and one of the most underrated “SNL” performers, Hooks helped “SNL” recover (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/style-blog/wp/2014/10/09/jan-hooks-dies-at-57-fond-memories-of-the-actress-who-was-a-valuable-part-of-saturday-night-lives-recovery-years/) from its disastrous years, she helped pave the way for “SNL’s” female renaissance (http://www.bustle.com/articles/43610-how-jan-hooks-paved-the-way-for-snls-female-renaissance), watch some of her classic "SNL" sketches, Seth MacFarlane calls her one of “SNL’s” funniest-ever cast members (https://twitter.com/SethMacFarlane/status/520356517678034944), and watch Hooks and Phil Hartman in their memorable “Love is a Dream” sketch (http://theconcourse.deadspin.com/watch-jan-hooks-and-phil-hartman-in-the-weird-gorgeous-1644570315).
