I have to say, with 2 seasons of viewing Three's Company under my belt that this show is BETTER than I remembered it being.
I don't know how much original input Nicholl Ross West put into the first 2 season scripts they wrote and how much was based on Man About The House, but they're funny. Often better than what the other writers come up with.
Maybe the death of Don Nicholl hurt this show more than anyone realized.
I don't think the scripts were that bad in the early seasons. One thing I notice is these scripts early on had a natural flow to the dialogue. If someone has something funny to say, they say it.
I notice in later years every joke seemed to have a set-up punchline format. The dialogue in the 80s seemed a lot more forced and unrealistic based on my recollections. When I get to the episodes in the DVD set I'll see if I still feel that way.
But as far I'm concerned the first 2 seasons aren't all that unrealistic. I can totally relate to the struggles of the trio to paying the bills and their failures in dating....things were more realistic in the first 2 seasons than people realize. Things seem more natural than later on. This "farce" doesn't seem all that far-fetched so far. These are working-class people with relatable struggles. It makes perfect sense that this show struck a chord with the public.
