I couldn't show you one single family in real life that acts like the Huxtables. I could, however, show you several families like the Conners.

Basically, real people have real problems not sugar coated "it'll be ok in the morning" problems.

But after all the big time guest stars of "The Cosby Show" appeared and all the 'special' episodes were wrapped from "Roseanne", weren't the two shows actually really the same in the end?

Neither but Roseanne got my vote. Purely because her show was about how perfect life really isn't and how people struggled to live. The cosby show was just a show about a perfect american family who just happened to be black.

Roseanne all the way! I only liked the first few seasons of Cosby.

Actually, I disagree. I can't stand it when people compare The Cosby Show and Roseanne. They are two shows with two completely different perspectives. The Cosby Show shows the perspective from an upper middle class family and Roseanne shows the perspective from a lower middle class family. It doesn't make any show less realistic than the other.

Agree. That is why I refuse to watch The Cosby Show on reruns.

I like The Cosby Show WAY better than Roseanne. (Sorry to any Roseanne fans- it's just not my favorite.)
(Though I'm decidedly not a fan of Roseanne, I'm honestly not all that big of a fan of The Cosby Show either, but I do like watching it from time to time.)
If I had to choose between the two though, I'd definitely go with The Cosby Show.:) :cool:

I'm sorry but I can't stomach The Cosby Show today. Claire was so perfect she made my puke. Roseanne was better and more real. There is nobody I know like the family on Cosby and I know people like the Conners.

Controversial shows always beat Non-Controversial shows so Roseanne gets my vote

My vote easily went to "The Cosby Show".

The Cosby Show was not that unreal. They were an upper middle class African American family. There are upper middle class to wealthy black people who are not singers, entertainers or athletes. Some had real jobs! I only say that because there is some disconnect from white people that the Huxtables were a "fantasy" because they were black.

Two income household, check. New York City is freaking expensive. Even if you are rich, you still have to work to earn your keep.

The kids all had problems. What I remember was that the Lisa Bonet character was somewhat of a lazy free spirit, much like Haley from Modern Family. Theo the son was dyslexic and also lazy with stupid friends. Tempest Bledsoe was just annoying. Rudy was too young to have problems. The oldest sister that was occasionally seen (Sondra?) was married to a nerd and they had problems.

Bill was not beyond getting mad at the kids and neither was the wife. Again, to me it was just a family show and it was one of the first ones that has African Americans as just people, and not have it to be a Norman Lear show with stereotypes like The Jeffersons, Good Times and Sanford and Son.

You rarely saw real drama on the cosby show.

Roseanne is a disgusting pig wishing cancer on those who eat at Chick-Fil-A, making a mockery of the national anthem, and I'm sure much more. Cosby is overrated some but I'll take him and his show any day.

Never liked the Cosby Show. My vote went for Roseanne.

I like both; but bottom line I find Roseanne to be a more funny show; I think it holds up better and I think frankly was more easily relatable.

I found Cosby at times to be borderline preachy; intolerable and unfunny.

But I'll bet any show or TV producer today would be THRILLED if their program got even HALF the ratings the Roseanne finale got in 1997. a 17 share? Are you kidding me, that would be considered a massive success today.

That "national anthem" is nothing special. It shouldn't even be sung anymore, Roseanne was right in how she acted that night.

Even Cosby's numbers for final episode were little disappointing considering how huge the show was in mid 80s with infamous 41.3/56 rating in 1987, also unfortunately finale coinceded with LA riots, but I guess that audience will be more interested in final episode for shows like Senfield and Friends than family shows like Cosby or Roseanne.

Sienfeld and Friends were 90s shows and had more of an edge.

At one time this might have been a hard choice but I picked Cosby over Roseanne for one reason.

That is NOT cool! You don't wish Cancer on ANYONE, not even those you may NOT agree with. You don't even kid about that! So that did it for me.

Years ago I watched her show although it got stupid after they won the lottery even though later it turned out Dan had actually died and she dreamed it all up.

I personally think the woman has some serious issues.

I think Rosanne was so popular because people could relate to it. It was reality based situation comedy. The Conners were like your average poor family. The Huxtables were not reality based.

Even the Brady Bunch. I love the Brady Bunch myself, but I know people that are sickened by the Brady Bunch because it's so unrealistic. Even for the time it was created. I have seen many step mothers and never met one like Carol Brady. Let's face it. The Rosanne wins hands down.

The Cosby show. Roseanne was to blue-collar for me.

At one time I would've picked The Cosby Show. Now, it's Roseanne by a landslide. The Cosby Show is just too tainted now.
