View Full Version : Cybill vs. Christine...
Jordan 03-10-2002, 08:19 PM Who was the better actress and which of them deserved an Emmy more?
In both cases, I must go with Christine. Granted, Cybill deserved an Emmy as well, but I think the character of Maryann was just so well constructed and unique, and Christine Baranski just made it more unique.] :happyface :happyface :happyface
Moondance 03-12-2002, 08:44 PM Yes! Christine DID deserve her Emmy!!! Cybill should have gotten one too! But Christine was the BEST ..NO ONE COULD TOP HER PERFORMANCES!!!!!!!!
I also enjoyed the performance of Alicia Witt, 'Zoey!' Her and Maryanne were a riot!

Jordan 03-13-2002, 10:00 PM You're right -- and Maryann was at her best when she was either drunk or STALKING! :happyface :happyface :happyface
Moondance 03-14-2002, 06:01 PM OOOH! I loved her stalking!!!
My favorite quote that sums up her stalking..
"My muse. My sweet shiny muse." ~Ira
"Wow. I've never been dumped so beautifully before. I don't even think I'll stalk you." ~Maryanne
"Well, that's my loss. I've seen your work and uh, you're the best." ~Ira
"Aaaw, you. Now get out of here before I saw halfway through your break cable." ~Maryanne
SHE IS THE BEST!!!

Jordan 03-14-2002, 08:45 PM No atgument here -- she is the best! But I don't know what my favorite stalking quote is -- there are SOOOO many! A few days ago, though, she was going on her first date in 25 years and was going crazy asking Cybill what she should do. "...and then we'll break up....and then I'll have to start STALKING him!" she said. That was pretty good! :happyface :happyface :happyface
Moondance 03-14-2002, 08:57 PM That ep was called "Starting Off On the Wrong Foot!"
I loved the part where she agreed to go out on the date and then she was in her closet saying, "I haven't a thing to wear!"
That closet was huge!!!! I mean, it was bigger than my bedroom!
I also like the ending where she goes to apologize to that man only to find that he's wearing her shoes.
Maryanne: Those are the Tuesday shoes. I know that because I bought them on Tuesday. Give me the shoes...Give ME the shoes.
Cybill: You better give her the shoes.
Maryanne:[ I WANT THE SHOES NOW!!!!
Haha! That cracks me up!

That was great -- seriously, who has a closet like that?! Obviously, that's what made it so funny! :happyface :happyface :happyface
Moondance 03-16-2002, 03:39 PM Yes! And then she was going through her clothes.
Cybill: Red.
Maryanne: He'll think I'm a slut!
Cybill: White.
Maranne: Virgin.
Cybill: Black.
Maranne: Dead.
Cybill: Yellow.
Maryanne: Chicken.
Hahaha!!!

callmetootie 10-24-2002, 02:50 PM Christine was always a much strongest actress on Cybill, and funnier. However, I did notice many times that Christine was given very weak and bland material to work with...and this was probably late in the show's run...
dandelion wine 02-05-2005, 06:31 AM Christine!
Moondance 02-06-2005, 03:56 PM Christine!
Baranski!
(I thought I'd finish that off)
TrashFlavoredTrash 07-14-2005, 07:59 PM i've been watching the show on Oxygen for the first time and I've noticed the Christine Baranski and Alicia Witt are way better than everyone else.
they just seem to be able to pull the jokes off better.
like Ira and Cybill seem to laugh or come off looking corny when trying to make a joke
Germanrose 06-07-2006, 10:41 AM Christine, she's hilarious!
joe87 07-03-2006, 02:20 PM both are great! but i like cybill more!
dreams200377 03-28-2007, 02:39 PM so do i.
I liked them both too. Wish it could have had a few more seasons.
Moondance 04-18-2007, 07:29 PM The show was brilliant!
On Moonlighting, Cybill played the perfect straight woman/foil to Bruce Willis. Cybill should have carried this on over to her later sitcom - and she did at first - but then insisted on being the one who got all the huge laughs - which didn't work for her as she played it way over the top.
AMackII 05-18-2018, 09:08 AM Both to be exact, Cybill & Christine are beautiful when they’re doing the show together
Cybill Shepherd (http://kenlevine.blogspot.com/2008/03/why-i-thank-god-i-never-worked-with.html) didn't get along (https://www.pajiba.com/celebrities_are_better_than_you/tv-costars-who-straight-up-hated-each-other.php#:~:text=According%20to%20Cybill%20creator%20Chuck,Shepherd%20was%20jealous%20of%20Baranski.&text=For%20what%20it's%20worth%2C%20Lorre%20also%20created%20Grace%20Under%20Fire.) with any of the other actors except Tom Wopat, who was so thankful to be getting steady work. She was incredibly jealous (https://deadline.com/2018/12/cybill-shepherd-les-moonves-ended-her-1990s-sitcom-1202519485/) of Christine Baranski (https://www.filmboards.com/board/p/2060366/), whose Mary Ann was the show's breakout character, and thought Baranski flew back to Buffalo (https://buffalonews.com/news/christine-baranski-accepts-life-as-toast-of-the-town/article_3f75c4b9-2fef-529b-8c63-cd47cfeba23e.html) on weekends just to spite her, rather than for Baranski to see her husband. She wasn't on speaking terms with either Peter Krause who played her son-in-law or Alicia Witt (who was dating Krause by the end of the show) who played her daughter. The writers loathed (https://www.thedelite.com/tv-shows-that-were-undone-by-backstage-drama/3/) her constant demands to change the scripts (https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:dCGTLcEO-2oJ:https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1996-03-31-ca-53127-story.html+&cd=19&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us) to make them glorify her--Alan Ball has spoken about this (https://interviews.televisionacademy.com/interviews/alan-ball?clip=33429#interview-clips) at great length in several venues.
