View Full Version : All 9 Season of Facts of Life to be released on DVD StephJ4 07-25-2014, 10:44 PM Confirmed on Shout Factory twitter: The Facts of Life will be released on DVD. All 9 seasons. No word yet on release date or bonus features. The Obsolete Man 07-26-2014, 12:04 PM FINALLY! I'm betting it's released before the end of the year... probably December, with early shipping if you order it from Shout's website. I say this only because: April was the complete Hill Street Blues, June was complete Bob Newhart, August is complete Welcome Back, Kotter, October is complete WKRP, so on their every other month schedule, December (with a November early shipping) makes the most sense for FoL. tlc38tlc38 07-26-2014, 05:46 PM Seriously?!?!? THIS......IS......AWESOME!!! Best day ever! Kasey 07-26-2014, 08:01 PM While I will definitely be getting this, I'd be more excited if one or more of the stalled Lear shows featuring female leads were getting this treatment instead. We'll see what the future holds. If they can clear the music from Seasons 6-9 of Facts there's still hope they can do the same for the other 2 Sony shows on my wish list (or at least one of them). tlc38tlc38 07-27-2014, 12:36 PM I'm surprised that the boards aren't blowing up from happiness of all the FOL fans. I guess good news travels slow. Adamantium 07-27-2014, 03:15 PM I'm surprised that the boards aren't blowing up from happiness of all the FOL fans. I guess good news travels slow. I will definitely be purchasing this DVD set. It's funny now that I'm trying to save my money and buy a car all these complete series are coming out: Welcome Back Kotter, Pee-wee's Playhouse (blu-ray), Batman, The Wonder Years, Facts of Life (WKRP, too but I'll probably pass on that one). This seems so unbelievable. I look forward to watching seasons 8 and 9. I haven't seen a Beverly Ann episode in over a decade. tlc38tlc38 07-27-2014, 03:50 PM I will definitely be purchasing this DVD set. This seems so unbelievable. I look forward to watching seasons 8 and 9. I haven't seen a Beverly Ann episode in over a decade. I know, I feel your pain. I have "Pee-wee" and "Batman" preordered but I also intend on getting "Kotter" , "WKRP", and "Wonder Years". Expensive year! MrCleveland 07-27-2014, 03:58 PM It's nice that all FOL Seasons are getting released! I'm hoping that other shows will follow suit! James28 07-27-2014, 04:13 PM I am getting worried that if Shout! Factory releases a The Facts of Life season 9 DVD set individually, they they may just omit the season number and it'll just be titled "The Final Season", like they had already done with several other shows. I'll be peeved if they don't have the season number on the packaging. (Well, season 9 was technically FoL's last season.) HugeBensonFan 07-27-2014, 04:21 PM Is there a link to this? Tried looking on Shout's twitter and didn't see anything. Its good news though for FOL fans. I watched it growing up. I was never huge on it, but it's worthy of a purchase. And I always think, if I purchase one series of a show it might lead to another being released. Still hoping for Benson the complete series to be released, but starting to lose hope on it sadly. I keep seeing these other shows get their complete series releases, but to no avail for Benson. But I'm happy for Facts of Life fans! colton016 07-27-2014, 04:27 PM Seriously?? Who cares?? I am getting worried that if Shout! All i'm saying is that the season numbers just shouldn't be omitted from the DVDs. Impressions 07-27-2014, 08:14 PM WOW! This looks legit. I'm so excited. I've been waiting for this day forever! :D FuriosityShell 07-27-2014, 10:58 PM ^^Why "Who cares?"? All i'm saying is that the season numbers just shouldn't be omitted from the DVDs. I have OCD, so I can understand what you're talking. I can't stand that either, but it's a small price to pay if the DVDs are coming out! '80sSitcoms 07-28-2014, 08:17 AM I'm surprised that the boards aren't blowing up from happiness of all the FOL fans. I guess good news travels slow. I've noticed on other shows' boards too, these boards are nothing like they were 10 years ago. It's really sad, these boards used to be jumping all over the place with activity and now hardly anyone posts anymore... kadeliah 07-28-2014, 12:48 PM Will these come with any commentary? That's always the fun part. I doubt there will be, but that would be so fun!! Robert 13 07-28-2014, 03:15 PM Happy to see this coming out, FINALLY! So from the looks of that tweet, it is coming out "next year"? StephJ4 07-28-2014, 03:34 PM No one knows about bonus features yet. A lot of us are hoping there will be audio commentary. When they released the first four seasons, one of them had a few new interviews recorded just for the release. So here's hoping for new stuff.... fol_fan1989 07-28-2014, 07:59 PM This is such exciting news! jayman75 07-28-2014, 09:27 PM I just got the email... Glad to see this! I own the first three seasons, but will definitely purchase the full series. Lets hope unedited, and with original music too. zypherix 07-29-2014, 05:31 AM Hopefully with the unedited Facts of Life Down Under as well :) '80sSitcoms 07-29-2014, 08:09 AM When they released the first four seasons, one of them had a few new interviews recorded just for the release. Are you talking about SONY's 1st-and-2nd season combined release with the interviews with Felice, Lisa, Julie Anne, and Mindy, or did Shout! Factory have new interviews on one of their releases? StephJ4 07-29-2014, 10:08 AM Yes I'm talking about Sonys StephJ4 07-29-2014, 10:09 AM Confirmed on Shout Factory twitter: Facts of Life DVDs won't be released until 2015 robby76 07-29-2014, 10:39 AM I really hope we get individual sets as I already own seasons 3-5. I'm not keen on the first two years either. But yes I'm nitpicking slightly - this is amazing news! Can't wait to get my hands on seasons 6 and 7!!! tlc38tlc38 07-29-2014, 04:49 PM Confirmed on Shout Factory twitter: Facts of Life DVDs won't be released until 2015 I've waited this long, I can wait a bit longer...no worries. It's just awesome that this is finally happening! retrofan05 07-29-2014, 08:09 PM This is great news!! But, will we be able to purchase the seasons individually? I already have Season 1-5. StephJ4 07-30-2014, 08:39 AM This is great news!! But, will we be able to purchase the seasons individually? I already have Season 1-5. When Shout Factory released Power Rangers season 1-15 (or something) on DVD, they released it in one huge package consisting of two box sets. So I'm thinking they'll release the full show, all 9 seasons, in one box set so for those of us who have seasons on DVD already, we will most likely get doubles. robby76 07-30-2014, 10:10 AM Maybe, but when Shout released the Complete Jem dvd boxset, they made season 3 available as a standalone boxset. Let's hope it's the case with FOL. ikhuri 07-30-2014, 03:33 PM And they're currently doing the same with Barney Miller! Imad Ron Ron 07-31-2014, 01:55 PM I am tired of Shout releasing the whole series on dvd after releasing several seasons. Those who have not purchased the show get the better deal and the rest get shafted either waiting for the individuals sets or having to double deep to get the rest with extras.:o Am I happy the show is finally being released? Yes but I hate how Shout does it...money grabbing crooks! hch 07-31-2014, 05:53 PM Do You have any idea how many years we have waited for something like this to happen? And you all want to start crying? Yeah it was a bum deal only releasing 5 seasons and then nothing only to find out years later that they are releasing the entire series. I feel your pain, but you all should be praising God that this is even happening. How many other companies can put out a show complete when the original home video divisions wouldn' give it a chance after seasons 1 or 2 or 5 or 6 or even 9? Shout! Factory has heard us and a whole lot of something is better than nothing at all. Stop complaining and look at the big picture! This could open the door for a whole lot of other stalled shows to be released! Next thing you know, they'll be coming out with Maude- The complete Series, or even The Jeffersons complete series. Who knows? This is a good thing here! zypherix 07-31-2014, 08:55 PM Maybe they just simply won't make money from seasons 6-9 alone, or maybe seasons 4-5 didn't do well, so they have to release a complete set first to make some money back. Hopefully more and more complete series sets can be released later on :) JamesG 07-31-2014, 09:32 PM I was very happy to hear this as well. I also own the Seasons 1-5 DVDs so I'm hoping that individual sets will follow the complete series release. I'm waiting to see what the (exclusive) special features are for my deciding factor on picking it up. BigManMike 08-01-2014, 08:50 AM I have Seasons 1-5, but I'll probably just sell them and get this. But I'll probably wait a little while because it will probably be over $200 when it is first released. Shout titles tend to be high and I don't have that kind of money right now. robby76 08-01-2014, 09:48 AM As a fan who doesn't live in the US, I also have the added burden of international postage costs for a big boxset on top of the set itself. Still hoping we get individual seasons too. afijamesy2k 08-02-2014, 10:27 PM Let's Hope embassy television/communications and cpt shows up. Still hoping we get individual seasons too. You forgot one more added burden and that is the DVDs will be in region 1 so if you don't have a region 1 player they won't work for you The Obsolete Man 08-06-2014, 09:45 PM Well, first off, Shout has generally been releasing complete series of shows that have been abandoned by other companies. FoL is the first one I can remember where they actually released a couple seasons themselves. And second... So what? It's better to get the complete series in oen shot than waiting and hoping for another release. Also, The cost of the complete series set will wind up costing roughly what it would have cost to buy the remainder of the seasons not yet released. Or, you can wait for the remainder of the seasons to be released. Or, don't buy anything. Your choice. No one's twisting any arms to force you to buy shows. 80schild.com 08-07-2014, 05:02 AM I'm not sure why anyone would be complaining. we've wait so long for these episodes... I hope they include extras like Episode Commentary and Bloopers StephJ4 08-07-2014, 08:47 AM I'm not sure why anyone would be complaining. we've wait so long for these episodes... Especially if they did record it, and they remastered the video so its nice looking hch 08-08-2014, 01:17 PM I just saw on the Jeffersons board that Shout! JamesG 08-08-2014, 01:24 PM Well, first off, Shout has generally been releasing complete series of shows that have been abandoned by other companies. The Obsolete Man 08-09-2014, 07:59 PM Similar to "Facts of Life", Shout! released Seasons 3-4 of "Diff'rent Strokes". I know. But Shout hasn't announced a complete series set for DS yet. Pretty much every other complete series they've released has been of a show that was abandoned by another company (Sony, WB, Fox, Universal, Paramount), and Shout picked up the rights and released the complete series collecting the seasons already released by another company along with the unreleased sets. FoL is probably the first series where Shout picked up the license for the series from another company, released a couple seasons, then released a complete series before (hopefully) releasing the rest of the series in single sets. 80schild.com 08-10-2014, 08:00 AM it would be great if they released the unaired version of Where's Poppa. The price on Amazon, when it is listed on Amazon could be better, but you'd have to pay a lot for shipping because of the weight. I feel with ShoutFactory they're offering free shipping, early delivery, and discounts so that they can figure out the number of orders to make, if that make sense. It will charge your card but then after a week or so, the money will be "put back" and then taken out again when the order actually ships. There were a handful of songs that couldn't be cleared from Mama's Family. That outraged some fans, but it was a minimal amount, so I'm okay with it; I am extremely grateful for the wonderful supreme box set Star Vista/Time Life did with that series. And thank goodness for season 1 they were still able to clear Molly Parker's biggest hits, "Stop Junking Up America", and "The Broken Family Blues". :D Robert 13 11-19-2014, 12:56 PM So my guess is that they had to cut out when Tootie sings "Ease On Down The Road"? folbartman 11-20-2014, 12:12 AM Ease on Down the Road: I think there was three scenes with this song: One, Tootie comes down the stairs singing it, Two: Tootie going up the stairs, three: the audition What about the flight of the bumble bee on the accordion.... love that scene. hopefully that's not cut. I wonder why they couldn't get the rights to Ease on Down the Road? Not that it matters to me but just curious because a little over a year before Tootie sang it on FOL, it was sung on FOL's parent show Diff'rent Strokes by an exchange student named Carmella, so that makes me wonder since it's being cut out on FOL, if Shout releases a complete series set of Diff'rent Strokes in the near future, would it possibly be cut there as well? 80schild.com 11-20-2014, 06:37 AM So my guess is that they had to cut out when Tootie sings "Ease On Down The Road"? LOL! tlc38tlc38 11-21-2014, 08:06 PM They also sing "happy Graduation day" - it's the same as "happy birthday" which i know is copyrighted - and why you rarely see it on TV. Just a thought. I don't think this is the problem song because StarVista WAS able to clear it for the recently released "Mama's Family" set. It was actually in a couple episodes of "MF". My bet, it's "Ease on Down the Road". After doing some research, "Ease on Down the Road" is sung by Della Reese in the "Sanford and Son" episode "Della, Della, Della". I'm not sure if it was cut from that episode on DVD or not but that doesn't really mean anything if it was because music laws are tougher now than they were a few years ago when that set was released. Robert 13 11-22-2014, 08:21 PM Yup, I think it is most-likely "Ease On Down The Road" cause they mention 2 minor edits. The song was sung in 2 separate scenes in that episode so it must be that. The cardboard for "Beaver" is also a bit thinner than "Jeffersons", "Facts", etc. I noticed also (from seeing pictures on EBay) that the Mister Ed release has six separate cases (one for each season) unlike the Bob Newhart release (three cases for all six seasons, and a fourth for the bonus disc) and the Barney Miller release (four cases for eight seasons, and one more for the two discs of the Fish spinoff). The Obsolete Man 12-13-2014, 02:50 PM I noticed also (from seeing pictures on EBay) that the Mister Ed release has six separate cases (one for each season) unlike the Bob Newhart release (three cases for all six seasons, and a fourth for the bonus disc) and the Barney Miller release (four cases for eight seasons, and one more for the two discs of the Fish spinoff). It seems to be a crapshoot. WKRP, Bilko, Kotter, and Mr. Ed have individual seasons in a slipcase. Newhart, Jeffersons, AITF, and FoL have two seasons per case. Of course, WKRP, Kotter, and Bilko are only 4 seasons long, while most of the rest of the shows I mentioned were 9 seasons or more. But then Bob Newhart and Mr. Ed were both six seasons, and handled differently. Ad the cardboard case material is all over the place. Bilko and Ed have thinner cases, while WKRP and Newhart are thick. *Fantastic* to see images here of actual boxsets people have now received! :) (...especially since mine isn't shipping from Amazon until mid-January!) Can't tell you all how excited I am to finally have the complete series on DVD. I went straight for 2 of my favorite episodes from later seasons... "The Lady Who Came To Dinner" and "Off-Broadway Baby". THANK THE GOOD LORD they were able to clear music for the Stacey Q episodes or it wouldn't have worked. I also took a quick look at "The Graduate" and, as suspected, the song "Ease On Down The Road" has been edited out of 2 scenes. In the opening season, they replaced Tootie singing the song with her going "da-da-da-da" to the tune of Pomp & Circumstance/graduation March song. It's a little weird but I think we'll survive. The second scene omits her audition leaving the final note of the song as she is just finishing. So there you have it. If you have that episode on VHS, you should hang onto it. Just look at bonus features for the releases of Mama's Family or The Carol Burnett Show or Fraggle Rock, for example; you have over hours and hours---over 10 hours each---of cast and crew interviews, stories of the creation and execution of the series, backstage/behind-the-scenes tales, etc. Those are gold; or cast commentaries like with one of the Mr. Belvedere seasons. Sure I don't count "interactive menus" and "chapters" as bonus features (and I think it's ridiculous when releases do), but when the bonus features are well-done and very valuable with a set I definitely watch them numerous times. bmasters9 12-22-2014, 10:21 AM Sure I don't count "interactive menus" and "chapters" as bonus features (and I think it's ridiculous when releases do), but when the bonus features are well-done and very valuable with a set I definitely watch them numerous times.
