This is new news? I haven't considered it a "family" channel in over 5 or so years now.

It's fairly obvious. That's pretty much why I don't watch it anymore.

I think that it's widely known that Disney (the owners of ABC Family) can't simply change the name of ABC Family for legal reasons involving Pat Roberston (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ABC_Family#Sale_to_Disney_and_rebranding_as_ABC_Family_.282001.E2.80.932006.29).

Maybe get some of the former messed-up and discontinued WB comedies to get rebooted in this network immediately!

I was hoping they were going to become the 90's kids grown up network.

It seems like network names don't mean anything anymore. I mean History channel is doing reality shows, Food Network is game shows, even Lifetime Movie Network is showing old A&E shows!

I'm sure they will just change the tagline and on air look. Level of quality of 'original' cable TV shows has been terrible for the past 7 years.

This really irks me. I LOVE the old made-for-TV-movies that aired in the 80s and 90s. I wish they'd air more of these instead of the real-life crime shows. If I want to watch real-life crime, I'll watch the ID network or my local news.

I thought they were already shifting there focus to women in there 20s. I mean a lot of there programming is not really family oriented anyway.

The only time I even watch that network is for Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy.

Maybe this network needs accept rebooted former WB comedies, like Popular, Maybe It's Me, Do Over, Greetings From Tucson and Run Of The House for example.

Maybe once Robertson croaks...they can change the title, but he's a Simpson (This refers to "The Simpsons" since they'll never die...Pat Robertson is STILL here).

Will Disney make a channel that appeals to the Generation Y or will they say "If you can't find it on TV, get the DVD! If you can't find it on DVD, go to YouTube! And if you STILL can't find it...**** you, pay us!"

Why does Pat Robertson have a say over it?!?!

Because he was the original owner of the network and when he sold it he made it clear in legal papers that whoever owns it must have Family in it's title and must air the 700 Club. So if ABC ever sold the network, the new buyers would have to agree to this.

LOL, so that's why they show it 3 times a day. Making them air your show thereby still having editorial control over the network, Shrewd move Robertson!

I heard that, at one time, The Walt Disney Company had planned to change the channel's name to "XYZ" (a reverse reference to ABC) as part of a remarketing effort. However, the original sale from CBN to International Family Entertainment contained a stipulation that the channel has to contain the word "Family" in its name permanently, regardless as to who owns the network. They (ABC Family) are also contractually required to air The 700 Club at least twice a day.

If there was really a contract stipulating this, then I wonder when such a contract will expire? Upon Pat Robertson's passing-away or some other way? If that happens, where else are we gonna find The 700 Club?

^You could find "The 700 Club" on a channel for a local TV station.

When you typed "reality shows", did you mean programs formatted like "Pawn Stars" and "Ice Road Truckers" (since the History Channel has always had programs about reality)?

Yes. That was what I meant. I have nothing against those shows, just think its a far stretch for them to be on the History Channel.
