View Full Version : Do You/Will You Dye Your Hair?
Retro4Life 07-14-2014, 08:00 PM I think I am one of the very few people at my place of work that does not dye his/her hair. I could...I'm nearing 50 years old and my hair has been graying since I was 40.
It's cool if people do, I just find it odd that just about EVERYONE opts for the dye. I reason that this is what 50 looks like for me, why try to hide it? It costs money, it's not good for you, and it's a bother.
Vahan 07-14-2014, 08:08 PM Good question, Michael.
Nope, I am proud of my short hair, which is currently brown, but wouldn't care should, and if, it turns gray.
Family Ties Forever! 07-15-2014, 02:28 AM Never have and never will. The smell of the chemicals used in the dye are way toooo strong for me to handle.
biffbronson 07-15-2014, 04:30 AM It's funny you mention this because I was just thinking about what it would be like to do something about my gray. It's coming in more and more at the temples. I'll turn 50 in less than 6 months...!
But I'm leaning toward leaving it alone, because the lady I'm interested in has never dyed her hair -- it's 100% silver gray and looks good on her! Any day now I'm going to surprise her as she's never seen my beard come in (always clean-shaven before) -- and she'll probably be shocked by how it's about 75% gray!
MrCleveland 07-15-2014, 12:49 PM Only if I'm in a movie...I'd dye it blonde...my hair is dark brown.
Chocolate Moose 07-15-2014, 02:32 PM You can get henna, which is a vegetable dye, in several colors. It's not bad for you.
Janice 07-15-2014, 02:44 PM I have my hair colored blonde at a salon. My hair stylist Liz is very talented and does terrific work. It does cost a lot of money and is time consuming. I spent three hours at the salon last week, but to me it's worth it. I look better as a blonde than a brunette.
If a person feels better with colored hair and can afford to maintain it, then it's a personal decision. I don't see how it's bad for me. I use high-end products to keep my hair in good condition.

Thanks, Vahan, I'm glad you liked it. And thanks for your participation. :)

I agree. I have no reason to dye my hair right now, but when the time comes, I definitely will. A guy at work is in his late 30's, but could totally pass for 50 due to the gray hair. I know that many don't mind, but that will not be happening to me.
Torgo 07-17-2014, 07:33 PM I'm almost totally gray. Started going gray in my early 30's. Have no desire to dye it, plus my wife loves my gray hair. What anyone else thinks I couldn't care less.
JamesG 07-17-2014, 07:40 PM I lost my hair rather early instead of graying, so I don't have much to dye.
My facial hair has natural red highlights (being 1/2 Irish).
comedyfreak 07-18-2014, 05:07 AM I toyed with the idea, bought Grecian formula but never went through with it, I still may in the future. My mustache is almost all gray.
OH Nuts! 07-18-2014, 07:27 AM I've toyed with the idea but practically everyone is telling me I look good in salt and pepper hair, so I'm leaving it be - for now anyways.
Penny Lane 07-18-2014, 01:48 PM I was about 20 when I first dyed my hair.I had rather dull brown hair so I went to a medium blonde. I have had auburn, dark brown, very light blonde (almost white). But I now am sticking with medium blonde. It suits my skin tone. Underneath it all I am fast getting very very gray. I don't intend on going that route!
Dianne3 07-18-2014, 04:44 PM I'm surprised at all the no's.
I am a born natural blond, but now that I'm older, I have to keep coloring it to keep it that way. The roots are the worst. It's more than still wanting to be blond. The dark roots make my hair look dirty and I have a hard time managing it.
Coffeecup 07-20-2014, 09:26 PM About every 18 months a so I give it whirl with a box of Nice of Easy.
Race's Girl 07-21-2014, 06:31 AM I dyed my hair once when I was 14 years old
Mr. Television 07-21-2014, 11:27 AM I have so much gray in my hair anymore, it isn't even funny. lol
Bonniegirl 11-16-2016, 09:44 PM OK I admit it, I'm not a natural blonde! :D
Furienna 11-18-2016, 03:52 PM Hm... I find it weird that so many brunettes dye their hair blonde. Of course, it is not a new phenomenon (Marilyn Monroe did it already back in the '50s). But I never did it, because I want to keep my natural dark brown hair color. It would be different if it was turning grey, but it seems like that hasn't started yet.
I used to use summer blonde on my hair when I was a teen. I've also dyed it reddish brown, light brown and frosted it with a white gold color. Having it frosted was a trip, they put this plastic wrap on your head & pull pieces of hair through it to frost it. I don't dye it anymore, it's too much trouble since my hair grows so fast. My natural hair color is medium brown.

Well if my hair was dark brown or black and I had dark eyes I probably wouldn't ! But my natural hair is light to very medium brown, and I have light eye color! So I just went for it Oh years ago, and liked it,and got SO many compliments on it! ! With my skin tone and eye color it looks like I could be a natural blonde.! ;)
Coffeecup 11-20-2016, 03:22 PM I just had my hair colored. In January I had a foil done with blond hi lights. Had it cut again this summer and the hi lights were still there. I thought I would get the brown hair a lighter blond like a whitish blond. But the gal said I could get it like a walnut blond so I have that. It has been a few days now and NO ONE has noticed. Hmm. I don't how people get a good blond out a box. Do you use several boxes with bleach or peroxide? The goo the hairdresser used didn't smell bad at all.
Dude111 11-21-2016, 10:04 PM Nope I dont dye mine! (yyuukk)
D-Dey 11-23-2016, 02:10 AM Nope I dont dye mine! (yyuukk)
Me neither. Old footage of Bill Clinton's bad dye jobs made me realize I should swear off it. Plus, everybody that I've encountered has seen me going grey. If I suddenly started to walk into one store or another and they see me with black hair or dark brown, the first thing they're going to think is "who does this moron think he's fooling?"
Bonniegirl 11-23-2016, 02:51 AM To all the men here: A middle aged or older man with salt & pepper hair ,heck even full grey or white is sexy! ;) My Husband is salt & pepper and he doesn't seem to care or have any plans to dye it! I'm glad! :) I say stay natural! It is different with women, because we color our hair just for the fun of it from a young age! Even a noticeable dye job isn't really funny on a woman because of the reason I just said! On a man it is funny and it looks like he's trying to look younger! So, keep the natural grey or white ! Hey, you know what they say :
"When there is snow on the roof, there is a fire in the furnace "! :D
Kate From CT 11-26-2016, 10:32 PM I started with blonde highlights at 18. It's been strawberry blonde to soft black. Now that I have more gray, I am sticking to lighter browns with highlights until I'm too old to deal with coloring.

Oh, that sounds interesting! :) I suppose that it looked very cool!
My natural colour is brown too, a rather dark one but I always liked to change it, the most of all I still like such unusual and bright colours like on these pics from MachoHairstyles (http://machohairstyles.com/best-hair-color-ideas-for-men/), they look so cool! For example, I had such bright purple on my head and it was really amazing, I think that I'll make it again in the future

The only thing which I don't like about these colours that I can't get such bright shade as I want without previous bleaching and it causes so much damage for the hair...:( So I can't make such experiments on my head so often as I want :(
Theda Bara 04-15-2017, 11:37 AM No, but I used to dye my hair blonde, which was a pain in the behind! My natural hair is a very dark brown, and since my hair is both long and thick, dyeing is a chore, so I quit coloring my hair several years ago.
Coffeecup 04-15-2017, 10:01 PM My hair is starting to look a little blond. Maybe as I get older there is gray involved and it tints my normal brown hair a bit lighter. I agree coloring it as one get older can get harder to do, specially if you do it all yourself.
Race's Girl 04-18-2017, 07:37 AM I might dye it again
Melba Mamie 04-19-2017, 09:01 AM I dye my hair every 2-3 months and I have been doing this since I was 18. :) The downside though is that my hair is very dry

Apparently, I'm not done coloring my hair. LOL. I got it dyed medium-light blonde back in July and love it and will be doing my roots next week.
