Yeah it was LOL.

i think it was partly the shock value - he just looked so goofy, and I don't think anyone had ever shown someone on TV in such a goofy getup before; as just a natural part of the character anyways.

That's why I said it's probably a 1974 type of comedy because all those people probably were seeing someone like him for the 1st time look so odd
