View Full Version : Schedule I wrote for a mock MeTV-like digital subchannel
KentB3 06-15-2014, 11:17 AM I'm sure many of you are fans of digital subchannels such as MeTV and AntennaTV (as I am) that run classic TV shows. Here's is a schedule I wrote for a similar subchannel if I were for real and I ran it:
Monday-Friday:
6:00am Square Pegs (Monday)

Flo (a spin off of Alice, Thursday)
Bad News Bears (Friday)
6:30am Super Friends
7:00am Flintstones
7:30am Garfield & Friends
8:00am Captain Kangaroo (E/I) It has been reported that the majority of episodes have been wiped, or destroyed (especially the early B&W episodes), but I do know that MANY episodes aired on PBS during the mid-to-late 1980's; though nearly all of the PBS airings were from the mid-70's onward.

6:00am Square Pegs (Monday)
Angie (Tuesday)
On Our Own (a short-lived 1977-78 sitcom, Wednesday)
Flo (a spin off of Alice, Thursday)

On the other hand, the 9-11 group looks pretty solid to me. I see no problem with it at all.
9:00am Brady Bunch
9:30am Leave It to Beaver
10:00am I Love Lucy
10:30am Beverly Hillbillies
I think you need to re-check the list again just to make sure. It seemed fairly clear to me.

TKMetal 06-15-2014, 11:12 PM I'd like to see MeTV or Antenna TV do a serious kids/cartoon block even if just on Saturday. I feel like MeTV want to do something but just stop short for whatever reason.
comedyfreak 06-16-2014, 05:57 AM It looks like a good schedule.
mets82 06-16-2014, 04:41 PM All your suggestions are very good and I like it a lot. I have to post my mock schedules that have. I've done them for years and have been revising and whatnot.
MrCleveland 06-16-2014, 09:12 PM All your suggestions are very good and I like it a lot. I have to post my mock schedules that have. I've done them for years and have been revising and whatnot.
I have one too...I just need to finish it....
ThomasE 06-21-2014, 01:00 AM I think the schedule is pretty good. I'm good with the 6am-9am block and with the 9am - 11:30am block. The morning block looks like it has the shortived stuff and time frame is not pivotal or a hot time so it works perfect, IMO. Nice job.
tommy b 06-25-2014, 10:54 PM Some really nice selections here.... can we squeeze in a Gilligan, even if just on the weekend? :)

kk-likes-tv 07-22-2014, 09:40 AM Some great choices here, to see Wild Kingdom on Sunday afternoon's again would be priceless. Shows like Science Fiction Theater and Ghost & Mrs. Muir are unjustly forgotten, just because a show is obscure doesn't mean it's not worth seeing again.
Here's some other shows I'd love to see on a channel like this:
Sea Hunt
Ripcord
The Whirlybirds
Aquanauts
The Everglades
Forest Rangers
Ultra Q

Here's an idea that I keep thinking about whenever both channels announce new schedules every 3 or 4 months. What if you were to take the real existing schedules from both Antenna TV and ME-TV and combine them to make one new channel? What would this new channel look like? If you want to try this too, you can use these links to work on it:
Antenna TV Fall 2014 (http://antennatv.tv/pdf-schedule/)
ME-TV Fall 2014 (http://metvnetwork.com/files/MeTV%20Nat%20Sch%204Q14%20Eff%209-1-14%20C-M.pdf)
Using these schedules, I will call my new and much improved channel
Antenna4ME TV
WEEKDAYS
5-7 AM Me-TV Mornings
5:00 AM Petticoat Junction
5:30 The Beverly Hillbillies
6:00 The Donna Reed Show
6:30 I Love Lucy
7:00 Leave It To Beaver
7:30 Leave It To Beaver
At 8 AM, Antenna TV will show a movie while Me-TV will have Daniel Boone. Neither one sound very appealing, so I would fill in the next hour with the shows that Antenna TV had on before the movie and then proceed with their regular schedule:
8:00 Burns and Allen
8:30 Mister Ed
9 AM to 6 PM - Antenna TV Mid-Day
9:00/9:30 AM Too Close For Comfort
10:00/10:30 Three's Company
11:00/11:30 Bewitched
12:00/12:30 PM I Dream Of Jeannie
1:00/1:30 McHale's Navy
2:00/2:30 Bachelor Father
3:00/3:30 Father Knows Best
4:00/4:30 Dennis The Menace
5:00/5:30 Green Acres
6 PM to 5 AM Me-TV Comedy Conundrum, whatever that is, set up a little differently from the actual schedule, so that all these shows can fit in the proper slots and all can be seen every day:
6:00 PM MASH
6:30 MASH
7:00 The Andy Griffith Show
7:30 The Andy Griffith Show
8:00 Hogan's Heroes
8:30 Gilligan's Island
9:00/9:30 The Bob Newhart Show
10:00/10:30 Cheers
11:00/11:30 Taxi
12:00/12:30 AM F Troop
1:00/1:30 Welcome Back Kotter
2:00/2:30 The Odd Couple
3:00/3:30 Make Room For Daddy
4:00/4:30 That Girl
Setting up the weekends is a little tough. I'm going to need some time to work on it.
tooltime1987 09-22-2014, 07:48 PM I would like to see Home Improvement on MeTV Network and they should do at least do a 1 hour block of Home Improvement 6 nights a week Monday-Saturday 7:00PM & 7:30PM. I hope MeTV Network will come to Comcast and Charter in the Springfield/Holyoke,MA area as soon as possible.

LETTERL 08-19-2015, 10:34 PM Would LOVE to see "On Our Own" again! I thought maybe I was the only one that remembered it. Lyn Greene, Bess Armstrong, Dixie Carter, Holland Taylor. Great cast...great time slot, decent ratings...and got cancelled after one season.
KentB3 12-26-2015, 06:44 PM Here's a series of specials I would run during the Christmas season:
It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown. This is a straight-to-video cartoon from 1992, not sure if it ever actually aired on TV or not:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XokAmvdaEe0
A Garfield Christmas Special:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTu0jsYvQTo
Raggedy Ann & Andy in The Great Santa Claus Caper. Makes me REALLY feel old when no one knows what Gloopstik is! ;) :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3d9yTsh92y4
The Tiny Tree:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11A7Y1cq0kE
Yes Virginia, There is a Santa Claus:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9mqXJQYZSo
I also would include Rankin-Bass specials that no longer air on broadcast TV (only Rudolph, Frosty, and Santa Claus is Comin' to Town currently air) (though some air on cable via ABC Family), such as:
Frosty's Winter Wonderland:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCdVXJZazNE
Twas the Night Before Christmas:

KentB3 04-09-2017, 05:24 AM There's the best of a lot of different genres there. I'd suggest some old fogey stuff 5-6:00 or 6:30 am. Doesn't seem like kids are really up and around then.
That was why I scheduled a block of short-lived TV sitcoms at 6am, since few people are up at that hour. Also, the reason I scheduled game show reruns overnight (2am-6am weekdays, 1am-6pm weekends) was due to the fact that the average viewer would prefer to watch reruns of classic TV sitcoms and drama series.
loaferman 04-10-2017, 01:44 PM Most of these lists are quite good. What I notice most is a lack of overly long showings of the same series. There is also a pretty good mix of styles. I'd run 1 episode of Dark Shadows per day Monday - Friday and add "The Edge of Night" episodes that USA ran back in the 90's in tandem with "Dark Shadows". That would be a great late night alternative to those insipid talk shows on the other networks.

I did air two soaps during the late night period, opposite these talk shows.

I have only seen Dark Shadows once (not really my thing) and only seen a handful of Edge of Night episodes (the show did not air in my area most of the time it aired on ABC in the 4pm timeslot). Thanks anyway for the input! :)

In addition to the cartoons from the 1983-86 Saturday Morning run (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Charlie_Brown_and_Snoopy_Show_episodes), this will also include numerous Prime-Time TV specials from over the years; such as Charlie Brown's All Stars, and You're a Good Sport Charlie Brown, and It's Arbor Day Charlie Brown; just to name a few! ;)
Here is a video of You're in Love Charlie Brown, another example of one of these TV specials joining the episodes of the 1983-86 series:

KentB3 04-14-2017, 07:07 AM Here's a series of specials I would air around Easter:
It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown: I did plan to not air the Holiday specials which currently air on ABC, but this has not aired since 2014. Assuming ABC decides not to air this again, I will add this one, airing as a Primetime special with an encore airing in The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show's regular time slot at 11:30am on Easter Sunday!

stevea 07-20-2017, 07:34 AM Cartoons on Sat. morning--something a few generations aren't aware of--so good call!
i really like the idea of showing the Bugs Bunny/Warner cartoons intact, with the Bugs Bunny Show bumpers. I think the Warner toons failed on Cartoon Network is that they just played the toons, among a ton of ads.
mets82 07-20-2017, 02:43 PM Kent, this a great schedule!! You put a lot of thought into it. Good job!!
KentB3 07-30-2017, 01:00 PM Believe it or not, I made another schedule revision! Some of this was out of necessity. First of all, I forgot that Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In was an hour-long show in its original run, especially since reruns of the show usually appeared in edited half-hour episodes. Secondly, I realized that The Love Boat had too large of an episode volume for only four airings a week, so I shoehorned a normal 5 episode per week strip into a weekend airing. I also did the same thing with The Wonderful World of Disney, for similar reasons. Anyway, here's what I have now:
Monday-Friday:
6:00am Square Pegs (Monday)

stevea 12-19-2017, 08:09 AM Although this is a fantasy thing, I still wonder about the availability of Wonderful World Of Disney, American Bandstand, and many of the cartoons (Speed Buggy, Mighty Mouse, Heckle and Jeckle) and game shows. You also mentioned that much of Captain Kangaroo still exists since it was shown on PBS--how do we know it didn't get wiped after that? Wiping for the most part ended in the late 70's. Captain Kangaroo ran well into the early 1990's on PBS (all reruns, with a few new segments.) CBS started to phase out wiping as early as 1972, though some shows such as soaps (except for The Young and the Restless) and many non Goodson-Todman game shows (particularly Heatter-Quigley shows such as Gambit) were wiped until circa 1978 or so. ABC and NBC stopped wiping around 1978 as well. Days of Our Lives and more recent episodes of The Doctors (both NBC soaps) still exist. Ryan's Hope is also one of the few soaps still intact in its entirety. However, most of ABC's other soaps didn't fare as well; All My Children and One Life to Live were wiped until 1978, not sure about General Hospital, though a handful of B&W kinescopes of AMC and OLTL are still avaliable.
KentB3 12-26-2017, 08:10 PM Not done yet revising my schedule! I added two more shows to the schedule, House Calls (1979-82) and Saved By the Bell: The College Years. Here's what I have now:

KentB3 09-26-2018, 08:16 AM I made one more revision to my schedule. Like I mentioned before, my most recent revisions were related to the issue of Syndication Exclusivity (SyndEx) of TV show airings. In addition, the possible issue of music clearances on American Bandstand was taken into consideration. During the mid-to-late 1990's, VH1 aired The Best of American Bandstand, but only as 30 minute edits of originally hour-long shows. I'm not entirely sure if this was related to music clearance issues (due to copyright) or if it was that VH1 only wanted to run the show in a half-hour format, though more than likely it was the former issue.
I am now writing this schedule as if the channel is a sister network to AntennaTV, due to the fact that MeTV already has two sister networks (Heroes & Icons and Decades), so AntennaTV would be the more logical partner network. AntennaTV has a sister network as well (ThisTV), but ThisTV mainly airs movies instead of classic TV shows like Heroes & Icons and Decades. In addition, access to AntennaTV's library of shows, adding shows no longer airing on AntennaTV (much like Decades) as well as shows on the back burner of their schedule (currently airing overnight) that would be more likely to get dropped. The rest consists of shows not airing currently on any other subchannel or no longer airing on these networks. Here is what I have now:
Monday-Friday:
6:00am Square Pegs (Monday)
Angie (Tuesday)
On Our Own (a short-lived 1977-78 sitcom, Wednesday)
Flo (a spin off of Alice, Thursday)
The Bad News Bears (Friday)
6:30am Super Friends
7:00am The Flintstones
7:30am Garfield & Friends
8:00am Captain Kangaroo (E/I) It has been reported that the majority of episodes have been wiped, or destroyed (especially the early B&W episodes), but I do know that MANY episodes aired on PBS during the mid-to-late 1980's; though nearly all of the PBS airings were from the mid-70's onward.
