View Full Version : Creepiest/scariest missing person's/aductions/unsolved murders cases? Fox Mulder 06-11-2014, 11:01 PM What do you feel the creepiest and scariest cases featuring missing persons, abductions or unsolved murders on UM were? elg0rd0 06-15-2014, 03:37 PM Angela Hammond (I have my own theories on this one) Tara Calico Blair Adams William Bradford Bishop tamanshud 06-15-2014, 03:42 PM Nyleen Marshall McBevis 06-15-2014, 09:43 PM The Tennessee ATV murders. Totally cold-blooded and senseless, and the way the guy just stood there calmly and fired shot after shot at these helpless people makes it even scarier. everprincess 06-15-2014, 09:49 PM I bit OT but I thought when I first saw the segment about the lady that was hit by the speeding boat was just scary. I can't imagine what the pain was like for her day after day. Going through all that surgery. It is shame that the person who did that was never caught. theero 06-16-2014, 01:49 AM Ethel Kidd - I find it utterly disturbing how he tied up her body to the tree. Delaware Hitch-hiker - How he got to this man's house to murder his mother is the biggest Unsolved Mystery. Scott Johnson and his friend - The scene showing the two boys being put in the shack and also Scott's picture and the eerie music behind it. Last but not least - Beverly Ann McGowen - the way her body was dismantled (decapitated, hands cut off, spleen cut out) it was very brutal, and that composite of "Sam" still gives me the willies. WishfulDreamer 06-16-2014, 03:04 AM Any crime with parents murdering their children/ family members really gets to me. Brad Bishop, Robert Fisher, Edward Zakrewski, Ora Prince, and Joe Weldon Smith are just a few guilty of such terrible crimes. Boston Rapist is one of the most upsetting segments to watch. No one should have to fear being attacked at their own workplace. Elizabeth Campbell's abduction will always remain one of the creepiest to me. We have zero answers and all the evidence remaining from that night is her purse. To add to the above mention of workplaces, any murder or abduction from these locations. I would assume most of us viewers are employed and we can all relate to the victim in that way, that we hold a job and have a work routine. It's terrifying to think about someone, stranger or otherwise, coming in and causing you harm/kidnapping you at a place where you should feel secure. Cases of note include Tracy Kirkpatrick, Deborah Poe, Dale Kerstetter, and Epes Bandits. MegtheEgg86 06-16-2014, 05:41 AM The ones that have scared me the most over the years: -the Connecticut River Valley Killer (most of all the attack on Jane Boroski) -Kevin Ives and Don Henry -the ATV murders -the I-70 Killer -Bobbi Oberholtzer and Annette Kay Schnee -Kurt Sova -Elizabeth Campbell -Judy Hyams -"Debbie" -Doreen Picard and Susan Laferte -Special Alert: Shannon Smith -Kathy Bonderson -Mary Ann Perez -Philip Fraser tamanshud 06-16-2014, 08:42 PM I may be in the minority but I think The Circleville Letters episode is creepy as all get out! Keith Warren. The Dutchman 06-19-2014, 08:08 PM -The Tom Young/Keith Reinhard story, for me, was hands down the creepiest disappearance case UM ever spotlighted. That was first shown in the Winter of 1990, during UM's "heyday," so to speak, and beyond it being a creepy story to begin with, it was done very well. -The Phillip Innes Frazier murder case in Canada was the creepiest murder case the show ever aired. What's even more unsettling is that the cretin who committed it has never been found! MegtheEgg86 06-20-2014, 08:52 AM -The Tom Young/Keith Reinhard story, for me, was hands down the creepiest disappearance case UM ever spotlighted. That was first shown in the Winter of 1990, during UM's "heyday," so to speak, and beyond it being a creepy story to begin with, it was done very well. I always liked that segment, but yes, it was creepy. I remember a post many years ago about how someone (Corky Knievel, I think) was so terrified after watching the Harold and Thelma Swain segment the first time they sat on their couch afraid to move for a while. LittleBeast69 01-18-2016, 01:22 PM Keith Warren Judy Hymes Kurt Sova Scott Johnson and his friend Forgot the names of the victims but the case involving the couple during the '50/'60s who were found murdered in their car near a swamp. thinwhiteduke74 01-18-2016, 01:46 PM Don't forget that "special update" in which the show gave 30-second profiles of missing or murdered victims, the most infamous of which was the gruesome murder of David Tyll and Brian Ognjan in Mio, Michigan. Victoria81 01-18-2016, 03:04 PM Blair Adams case scared me..wth?! Circleville letters...I know, but scared me. The young couple who went on a trip and the guy(s) killed them and sent the parents letters. The old man on the security camera with the guy with the mask...I just know his body was wheeled out...yeesh. The guy who was "lowered into the hot chemical"....sorry I forget names, but that image of him being lowered...scary! So scary that it happened! And my all time "I need my mommy"...The EAR! :O Hops3098 01-18-2016, 03:40 PM The young couple who went on a trip and the guy(s) killed them and sent the parents letters. Jay Cook and Tanya Van Cuylenborg. The case was creepy enough but I think they caught the guy sending the letters and Christmas cards, except he wasn't actually the killer, just a disturbed individual. Actually made it more creepy for me. The old man on the security camera with the guy with the mask...I just know his body was wheeled out...yeesh. Dale Kerstetter. I didn't really find this one creepy, but I would absolutely love to know what happened. The guy who was "lowered into the hot chemical"....sorry I forget names, but that image of him being lowered...scary! So scary that it happened! Dave Bocks... I think this is one of the worst cases...AND one of the best segments UM put together. The shots of the furnace, and the shot of the supposed argument with a supervisor in the truck really made the episode compelling & creepy. Even the pictures of Dave that they used were pretty creepy. I will also submit the The Allagash Abductions segment as being super creepy. soilentgreen 01-18-2016, 04:26 PM Some of the cases of people who were victims of circumstance, like Angela Hammond. Deborah Poe, in that she completely vanished in a small window of time. The same with Elizabeth Campbell. Su Ya Kim's murder is one of the most disturbing for me, from the savagery of the attack to the security guard encountering the killer. Bill Henderson's violent murder by Lawrence Tutt; the guy went on to kill another man and possibly committed other crimes. I always wanted to know what so disturbed the two hitchhikers that he picked up that they were urgent to contact police about him. SeekDaGreat 01-18-2016, 05:18 PM What do you feel the creepiest and scariest cases featuring missing persons, abductions or unsolved murders on UM were? Was Cindy Song part of the UM Catalog? That's up there with Angela Hammond as some of the scariest. SPD Yellow 01-18-2016, 06:12 PM Blind River Rest Stop, hands down. It's one of those segments I just can't watch and while UM has a reputation for silliness due to some of the other cases presented...this one proves they can do a Damn good job at creating a low budget horror short. Though the Jeremy Bright case. Just the facts behind it, like how that town has the worst cops ever, and that his poor mother has to live and work with these people, some of who may know where her son is but won't tell her...that and the way Robert Stack says, "They know." Like many have already said, a large part of what made this show so great was Robert Stack's narration. His theatrically trained voice, lent UM gravitas, even when doing the silly ghost and UFO stories. Even gold foil lady is almost worth watching thanks to him. Jade_Curtiss 01-18-2016, 07:27 PM Philip Fraiser. The descriptions that the cafe workers gave and the composites totally creep me out. This is one of the cases I most want to see solved. Victoria81 01-20-2016, 02:41 PM Jay Cook and Tanya Van Cuylenborg. The case was creepy enough but I think they caught the guy sending the letters and Christmas cards, except he wasn't actually the killer, just a disturbed individual. Probably because I skip it every time it reruns lol! diesteldorf 01-20-2016, 08:32 PM 3, in particular, have always scared me for different reasons. 1. Angela Hammond--the re-enactment seemed very real to me. The actress looked any pretty girl I knew in high school and she let out a scream that really frightened me. No one likes to think that good people could randomly encounter a perfect stranger that could assault and/or murder them. If cell phones had been common back then, this may have never happened. 2. Elizabeth Campbell--The part that scared me the most was the UPDATE that they showed after the initial story. It was unexpected and the music they played, as they showed a closeup of her purse, was very eerie. 3. Stephen Marfeo and the UPDATE--I really wanted to believe his concern for his wife was genuine and was shocked when they showed an update with nothing but text on a black screen, stating that he killed his current girlfriend and later committed suicide. It makes it much more likely in my mind that he killed his wife and the entire UM interview was a sham. cuba_libre 01-20-2016, 11:53 PM Keith Warren Judith Hyams Audrey Moate smallmanbigmouth 01-21-2016, 12:24 AM I feel like every time I think I have my top three creepiest or whatever, I find a bunch of segments that are way worse. DALLASTEXAN!! 01-30-2016, 01:10 AM I feel like every time I think I have my top three creepiest or whatever, I find a bunch of segments that are way worse. this +1 I think I could with high confidence put Blind River murders in my top 3 and the fact that it is still technically unsolved is chilling. As far as abductions there are several that could be up there. My worst one is the Rachel Runyan case and many of us have said it before that it is probably the most unwatchable segment out there. I would rather revert to my 1989 childhood and watch a ghost story marathon with RS narrating than watch a case like that one today. Drown Soda 02-06-2016, 01:14 AM *Blind River Rest Stop killings *Tube Sock Murders (Diana Robertson, Mike Riemer) in Tacoma, WA area *The Signal Mountain ATV murders *Morgan Nick *Jeremy Bright *Devin Williams WishfulDreamer 02-06-2016, 02:01 AM Audrey Moate I cannot even begin to imagine the amount of fear this woman must have felt in her final moments. I think Ernest definitely killed her in the sex crime theorized by the detective and he just made up the story about Caroline killing them. His lie didn't even make sense considering the evidence at the scene. Apparently bones suspected to be Audrey's were found in 2011. Were they ever identified? MegtheEgg86 02-06-2016, 08:43 PM As far as actual aspects of the segments themselves are concerned, I used to routinely skip over the Morris Davis segment on my DVD at night because of that absolutely scary voice alteration they use in one of the silhouetted interviews. And as far as segments you later delved into by reading articles and such that turned out to be even creepier than the segment itself, I'd have to give that award to Terri Hoffman and the Charles Southern disappearance. It is absolutely astounding to me that so much points to this woman being seemingly at the center of so many bizarre, chilling deaths and yet she's still out there running scot-free to this day. Sean DePue 02-08-2016, 02:39 AM William Bradford Bishop comes to my mind. Before it was solved, it has to be Gilbert Cannon/Dorothy Donovan. soilentgreen 02-08-2016, 05:30 PM A segment I still find disturbing to watch is Rachel Timmerman/Marvin Gabrion. If the circumstances of Rachel and Shannon's murders and the fact that Gabrion killed other people as well wasn't horrible enough, there's his ability to persuade some a**, who likely was also murdered by Gabrion, to lure her away from her home (and specifically to manipulate Rachel into bringing her daughter as well). Oh God, that one gives me nightmares, too. LooksLikeCRicci 02-09-2016, 06:21 PM A segment I still find disturbing to watch is Rachel Timmerman/Marvin Gabrion. Yep. As a mommy, this one REALLY bugs me. A lot. sharonite 02-09-2016, 10:16 PM The murder of Ethel Kidd. The disappearances of Patricia Meehan and Kristi Krebs (both of whom were obviously mentally ill and probably didn't last long on their own). And I realize this one doesn't fit into the aforementioned categories, but I'm beyond grateful that I didn't see the Kenneth Robert Stanton segment as a child. Even though I wouldn't have grasped the true nature of his crimes at that young age, the appearance of the actor in the re-enactment (coupled with the victim's screaming)...pure nightmare fuel.
