View Full Version : What do you associate when you watch USA Network?
mets82 04-03-2014, 03:32 PM To me it would be WWF/WWE Wrestling that has been a mainstay for years on USA Network. Also, just there cult movies and stuff. They used to air stuff nobody else aired as far as movies go. Also, I remember when they aired the US Open tennis tournament as well and believe it or not, the WLAF, the World League of American Football.
icecream 04-03-2014, 04:18 PM Until recently USA was one of the best networks for cable originals. The type of show they aired started with Monk, one of the best shows of all time. Then they had Psych and White Collar, and last year I started getting into Necessary Roughness. Unfortunately NR was cancelled after the 3rd season (the only one I had seen.) I had also watched Covert Affairs from the beginning. It went downhill fast in 2013 though. I dropped CA out of protest when Necessary Roughness was cancelled. Also Suits (a show I never cared to watch) started at the same time as NR but USA advertised it more and was behind it a lot more, it's still airing. Then the announcement came that Psych was ending. It was past its prime and 8 seasons is a good run, but the shows they're replacing it with look terrible. White Collar will soon be ending. I don't mind that its final season is coming but it's a slap in the face to the producers to only have the final season be 6 episodes. After White Collar is done I am likely done with USA originals. Their shows from outside studios were a lot better, when they switched to inhouse shows the quality really went down. Chrisley Knows Best, Sirens, Playing House: none of them look worth watching, and I don't think it will get any better for awhile.
Mace Dolex 04-03-2014, 04:38 PM In the 90's I remember it mostly for reruns of short lived shows like My Sister Sam, Uncle Buck, Just The Ten Of Us.
The Cartoon Express, reruns of Quantum Leap, late night weekend movies with Gilbert Gottfried later by Rhonda Shear.

Me too...
I also remember watching Game Shows on that station!
I can understand having original shows on stations, but then it gets spread TOO thin and neglects rare gems and classic programing.
I see USA being part Cartoon Network, Part Game Show Network, and Part The Hub in the 90's...and It'll NEVER come back!ohno:ohno:ohno:ohno:ohno:
tlc38tlc38 04-03-2014, 05:25 PM Fondest memories of USA:
Carol Burnett and Friends, Jesse, Something So Right, Major Dad
bmasters9 04-03-2014, 08:03 PM Me too...
I also remember watching Game Shows on that station!
Likewise! I remember when it had $ale, Bullseye, TTD, Pyramid, Scrabble, PYL, and the like. In fact, USA was where I first saw what PYL was all about.
70s show watcher 04-03-2014, 08:24 PM when i think of usa i think of game show reruns and cartoon express

MacLeaper 04-04-2014, 10:40 AM The Cartoon Express, reruns of Quantum Leap, late night weekend movies with Gilbert Gottfried later by Rhonda Shear.
Oh yes! I remember USA Channel from the late '80s and early '90s when the big thing for me was The USA Cartoon Express! They had tons of great cartoons on there- Mr. T, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Real Ghostbusters, Turbo Teen and many others.....
It also aired reruns of Quantum Leap for a while and though I do love that show too- the main show I remember being on the USA channel is MacGyver! I loved the USA promos for MacGyver- I still recall the jingle they had to advertise the show- "MacGyver- what's he doing with that thing?".... and after someone would be singing that, the announcer would come on saying, "Find out what he is doing with that thing on MacGyver at 4 pm weekdays..." :)
And that channel also used to have a ton of cool game shows that I loved watching- my main favorites: Press Your Luck, Scrabble, Tic Tac Dough and Name That Song. The Joker's Wild and Hollywood Squares are great too.:)
Vahan 04-04-2014, 10:47 AM Pretty much what Mace Dolex said, even though I was too young to see late night movies.
Oh yeah, and the game show reruns, too.
Tubehead 04-04-2014, 01:54 PM I been watching repeats of nsic lose angles and I been watching suits. iwish they would cut off modern family it come on fox all the time
Dr. Loveless 04-04-2014, 02:56 PM In modern times, I watched USA solely to see BURN NOTICE, which ended up going on a season or so longer than it really should've. But when I think of USA Network, I think of what it was like in the early-mid 1980s:
Night Flight (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RXt7vKgim0)
Commander USA's Groovie Movies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8wllw0nvXs)
USA's Saturday Nightmares (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKNYZ-evu2A)
THE ALFRED HITCHCOCK HOUR and DRAGNET (1960s color version, before Nick@Nite got it), late on weeknights.
Re-runs of LOST IN SPACE and LAND OF THE GIANTS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kF_j8vCf28), weekday mornings, before Sci-Fi Channel spun off from the network and took both shows with it.
Etc, etc. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpfBhTBNnmk)
For me, by the early 1990s, it was already going downhill, with too much of the '80s version of ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS, SWAMP THING: THE SERIES, MURDER SHE WROTE reruns, etc.
mets82 04-04-2014, 03:47 PM I give USA a lot of credit because there original shows have been great as far as ratings go. I dont watch any of them but White Collar, Psych have done very well on USA.
And yes, I remember the days when they aired Something So Right, Boston Common, Ned and Stacy and believe it or not Saved by the Bell the New Class.
Dude111 04-05-2014, 05:02 AM I used to love it when they showed law and order FULL SCREEN!!! (Which sadly they dont anymore........ THAT AND THE SHOWS ARE DARK AS EVER NOW!!!!!! -- Almost not worth watching!!))
Ryan Chamberlain 04-05-2014, 09:01 AM Watching "Up All Night" when I was a youngster.
I think the first time I saw A Nightmare On Elm Street was when ol' Gilbert played it one night. LOL.

I wish they or another station would give these shows another run.
Vahan 04-05-2014, 05:56 PM USA Network sure has come a long way. When it first began as "The Madison Square Garden Network", it was a Sports network, kinda like ESPN. In fact, the first few years under the "USA Network" name were also all about sports, as well. It wasn't until the early 1980's, when Paramount/Gulf+Western replaced UA-Columbia Cablevision as MCA/Universal's co-owner, that it largely became an entertainment network.
MacLeaper 04-07-2014, 05:30 PM That's right- I remember that the USA Channel was where I first saw the first season episodes of "Saved By The Bell: The New Class"- I didn't discover that show on NBC until somewhere about the 4th. Season or so- and of course, the cast from the 4th. season was completely different from the 1st. season (save for Mr. Belding)- so I was really confused when I first saw those first season episodes. Years later from that, I got all the seasons on DVD and I've watched the whole series in order- love watching SBTB:TNC just as much as all the other SBTB series- great, fun show.:)
MacLeaper 04-07-2014, 05:31 PM too much of the '80s version of ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS, SWAMP THING: THE SERIES, MURDER SHE WROTE reruns, etc.
That sounds pretty awesome to me.:)
UMFaninMD 04-07-2014, 07:18 PM Up All Night
Saturday Nightmares (especially the short movies "The Dummy" and "Living Dolls"
Night Flight
Commander USA

I also think they aired HBO's The Hitchhiker but with the naughty bits cut out. :D
oz615 04-27-2014, 09:27 PM full of variety in the 80's and 90's nothing but SVU reruns today!
Dude111 04-28-2014, 01:28 AM In a way its amazing they keep repeating the original shows!! -- I have heard BENSON left the show,i dont think I would like it anymore!!!

Tubehead 04-29-2014, 01:14 AM I remember back in 1990s I would watch dink the dinosaur and the real ghost buster captain Nintendo & 'Conan the Barbarian' cartoon for comedies I remember when my two dads was on the usa network. I used to watch show called work it had Fred savage in it it was funny.
king of comedy 04-29-2014, 06:16 AM In the 90's I remember it mostly for reruns of short lived shows like My Sister Sam, Uncle Buck, Just The Ten Of Us.
The Cartoon Express, reruns of Quantum Leap, late night weekend movies with Gilbert Gottfried later by Rhonda Shear.
I remembered those too.
James28 04-30-2014, 01:41 AM What do I associate when I watch the USA Network?
* Reruns of NCIS, Law & Order: SVU, sometimes CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and now NCIS: Los Angeles.
* Some of their original series, such as Monk, Psych, Burn Notice, Royal Pains, White Collar, In Plain Sight, Covert Affairs, and Suits.
* The slogan "Characters Welcome", as well as the "Characters Welcome" brand.
* WWE Monday Night Raw, a longtime staple of the network for two decades, except during the early- to mid-2000s decade when it was on TNN/Spike TV.
MacLeaper 05-01-2014, 04:59 PM I definitely know the USA Network now for Psych- LOVE that series!:)
James28 09-23-2014, 12:51 AM Has NCIS: Los Angeles really underperformed on USA Network?
USA Network had signed a syndication deal back in late 2009 that was going to see the series reran five days a week starting in September 2013. But right now, you can only find reruns of NCIS: LA on late Mondays around two hours after WWE Raw.
Also, I wonder when is the next time USA Network acquires syndication rights to rerun a broadcast TV series? The channel has marathons of Law & Order: SVU four to five days a week, and that is probably because SVU is produced by corporate siblings of USA Network (NBC and Universal TV).
born2late 09-23-2014, 01:15 PM Haven't watched this channel in years. No variety. I miss the days of the Super Stations.
Mario500 09-23-2014, 04:36 PM Oh yes! I remember USA Channel from the late '80s and early '90s when the big thing for me was The USA Cartoon Express! They had tons of great cartoons on there- Mr. T, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Real Ghostbusters, Turbo Teen and many others.....

I believe you meant to type "Name That Tune".
mets82 09-23-2014, 05:52 PM I agree about no variety and lack of superstations.
Mace Dolex 09-23-2014, 07:54 PM Watching "Up All Night" when I was a youngster.
I think the first time I saw A Nightmare On Elm Street was when ol' Gilbert played it one night. LOL.
