i loved watching the original Cosmos as a kid, and rewatching the marathon they had before the new series' premiere proved to me that the original did hold up.

...of course I spent half the time trying to mimic Carl Sagan's weird voice, and I enjoy watching science stuff.

the new show isn't as good; it doesn't quite capture the sense of wonder that the original series had, but I'm not sure that Neil deGrasse Tyson is the reason.

the "spaceship of the imagination" concept is a little childish - I'd rather they focus on the information, and if they are going to go to the trouble of animating things they should save it for the science.

I tuned in only for the first episode. I had the same reaction; anyone who has taken science classes already knows this material, and it sounded like he was talking down to the audience.

Why did you find the concept "childish" and what did you mean by "childish"?
