ThomasE 03-10-2014, 03:23 AM It seems that the sitcom and its humor still holds up in today's time. I think it is a brilliant piece of work.
tlc38tlc38 03-10-2014, 07:22 AM I guess it all boils down to if you like the show or not. To some people, they love it and to some, they hate it. Personally, I think it's still funny today. Bar humor is something that will never fade and for the most part always stays the same.
king of comedy 03-10-2014, 07:48 AM Looking at it today IMO, it hasn't aged well. The characaters except for Frasier,Woody,Lillith are likeable and the situations got stupid after season 5.
70s show watcher 03-20-2014, 11:16 PM i think it still holds up quite well
80SitcomNostalgic 03-22-2014, 06:23 AM Hallmark Channel airs two episodes per night, and last week the show flipped over to the pilot. I think it still holds up very well even after thirty years.
The first couple of episodes were a bit clunky, and Danson's hair was not good, but the show hit its groove very early.
Torgo 03-22-2014, 09:22 AM It holds up perfectly, it still remains for me one of the best sitcoms of the 80's, and of all time. All seasons are good from beginning to end.
MrCleveland 03-22-2014, 01:52 PM I think it holds up...
I like it WAY better than "How I Met Your Mother" which has scenes in a bar.
Though I like "Frasier" a little more..."Cheers" STILL has that audience.
gopyle 03-22-2014, 06:06 PM Cheers, for the most part, has held up really well, in my opinion. I prefer the Shelley Long years overall, but the later seasons had some great moments as well.
It seems to me "Frasier" ended up being a lot more laugh-out-loud funny and the better show.
"Frasier" is definitely the gold standard for spinoffs.
king of comedy 06-22-2014, 07:10 PM Fraiser was better.
Yong Fang 09-30-2014, 01:07 AM A bunch of dumbasses drinking in their local because they have nothing better to do (or relieving the stress of work or hiding from the World/spouse) is pretty universal and timeless. Bartenders who think they are God's gift to women, and rude, sassy, ethnic barmaids are not that hard to find either.
'80sSitcoms 09-30-2014, 08:09 AM Yes it's still funny, sometimes very funny.
Danson's hair was not good, but the show hit its groove very early.
Danson's hair was awesome when the series first started. It really gave him that "Don Juan" ladies' magnet look. In the later years his hair was boring and didn't look good on him at all; given that, it was ironic that in those later years he was so narcissistic about how "great" his hair looked, lol.
MacLeaper 09-30-2014, 11:24 AM I'm not a huge fan of Cheers, but I have seen some episodes and I would definitely that it's still plenty funny. Situational comedy can possibly change, but relational comedy is always funny. And a lot of Cheers is built on relational comedy more than just situational comedy. I don't think it matters what year it's being watched.:)
Johnny be good! 11-19-2014, 09:25 AM I'm actually watching "Cheers" on Netflix right now, and it still cracks me up.
Latka Gravas 05-05-2019, 12:29 AM Though I'm posting 5 years after 2014, I wanted to chime in that - yes - Cheers is definitely still funny after all of these years. I'm a newcomer to the show & just started watching the DVD's last summer. The series cracks me up & I've literally laughed out loud numerous times when watching the show.
I was a pre-teen/teen/young adult when the series first aired from 1982-1993. And, I'm glad I waited to watch the show until now, since I'm appreciating the humor/situations a lot more as a guy in his 40's - than I would have when the show was originally on.
Heenan Fan 05-05-2019, 05:12 AM 2014? Cheers will still be funny in 3014, unless the people watching in the future are raised by ignorant fools...
AMackII 05-05-2019, 05:27 AM Only In Reruns? Yes...Because i’m glad Cheers did not get rebooted in the 2010s
