Even in the funniest of situations June would only offer a hint of a smile or perhaps a light chuckle. I wonder if a large goofaw was considered un ladylike?

View Full Version : Has anyone ever noticed June rarely laughed? sami dg 03-04-2002, 02:38 PM Even in the funniest of situations June would only offer a hint of a smile or perhaps a light chuckle. However she always seemed happy with her domestic life. Perhaps it was a bottle of gin under the counter!...lol VioletRutherford 03-06-2002, 09:06 PM I think June had a rather rye sense of humor!! She would rib Ward quite a bit it was subtle. cablejockey 03-08-2002, 02:40 PM Ward and June were very funny but i didnt notice until i started watching the show again as an adult. VioletRutherford 03-08-2002, 02:51 PM You're so right Cablejockey!! I think when kids use to watch LITB they we're more focused on Wally & Beaver. Then when you would get older & more mature, you would notice the repartee between Ward & June!! lukes42 03-10-2002, 11:07 AM Ward and June did have a great sense of humor, and often teased each other about particular things. They rarely ever got on each others nerves. :) VioletRutherford 03-10-2002, 11:17 AM You're so right!! I think what was obvious to the average LITB viewer, was the chemistry between all the actors!!(Ward Beaumont & Barbara Billingsly, Tony Dow & Jerry Mathers, Tony Dow & Ken Osmond), the list goes on and on.... Eddie Haskell 03-11-2002, 07:08 AM I wouldn't be laughing all that much if I did all the housework wearing those high heels! VioletRutherford 03-11-2002, 10:12 AM You're SOOOOO right Eddie!! OUCH!! boechsner 04-18-2002, 09:36 PM I wonder if a large goofaw was considered un ladylike? If you watch the episode, Music Lesson, there is a rare scene where June laughs out loud after Beaver leaves the room after he had just shown his parents how well he's coming on learning how to play the clarinet. Ward and June did have a great sense of humor, and often teased each other about particular things. They rarely ever got on each others nerves. So true. In fact, they flirted with each other in practically every episode. maranatha 11-20-2002, 04:28 PM It may be that June laughed more in the earlier episodes. Since TVLand started over with episode one this week, I noticed that June laughed audible in the episodes Captain Jack (when Ward said the alligator bit him) and she laughed along with Ward when discussing the problems the boys must have had while babysitting in the episode Child Care. :) goldie 11-20-2002, 04:54 PM I was thinking, while watching these first season episodes, that June was far more relaxed and likely to joke, as was Ward. But their humor and joking was somewhat subtle. I think as the series progressed, she became more formal with less of a sense of humor. :) boechsner 11-20-2002, 05:03 PM Originally posted by goldie I was thinking, while watching these first season episodes, that June was far more relaxed and likely to joke, as was Ward. As the years progressed they used her sense of humor less and less. In the first few seasons, the writers gave June some hillarious lines and her character was much more relaxed. In the last two seasons (I think this is where it is most noticeable) she didn't laugh or joke as much but she did still joke. liane49 04-19-2013, 01:29 PM I suppose you are right...he he...I never really gave that perspective much thought. However she always seemed happy with her domestic life. Perhaps it was a bottle of gin under the counter!...lol It's a TV show for 30 minutes every week. They aren't going to show every aspect of her character. I thought Wally was always too serious, but that's the way they wanted him. Scrabjan1 05-12-2014, 12:06 PM In Wally's Job at the end after June has finished painting the trash cans they are all in the kitchen. June says her payment for doing the painting will be arriving before the first of the month, a new hat. Ward says something like "Well I'll be. June asks him what? Ward says "A 4 eyed purple people eater that's what." June has a great laugh...I wonder if that was an ad lib from the joke he told at the table in the beginning. tdr 05-14-2014, 11:34 PM I suppose it's true that June didn't laugh a lot, or really make noise when she did. But remember-- Aunt Martha was a primary authority figure for her when she was growing up. Perhaps that makes it surprising that she even smiles and chuckles occasionally. |
