View Full Version : UM Cases That Should Be Movies?
BeautyOfTheDay 11-26-2013, 11:57 PM They are in the process of making a movie about the UM case 'Friends Till The End' The film is called 'The Tracks' I believe.
But what other cases should get the movie treatment?
Beverly McGowan
Cindy James
Anthoinette Cayedito
(case about the schizophrenic man who jumped off an airplane)
Blair Adams
Krystal Spencer
Adam and Elaina Emery
1990 UM fan 11-27-2013, 12:05 AM I would love to see the Beverly McGowan one become a movie. Glenn Close or Tabatha Coffey (if she was an actress) would get my vote to play Elaine Parent.
The Cindy James case would make an interesting movie too. Who would play her role though?
BeautyOfTheDay 11-27-2013, 12:08 AM The Cindy James case would have to have a mostly Canadian cast. Maybe Megan Follows could play her?

I'm thinkin' maybe Julie Stewart could play Cindy if we were looking for a Canadian cast? Megan Follows might be better in the role of Beverley! Darryl Hannah would also make a good Cindy.
I agree, Tabitha would be GREAT as Elaine Parent...so would Siobhan Fahey, or if Joanna Lumley was still in her early 40's. Madonna would be okay as Elaine as well, obviously not for the acting, but for her ability to change her look and become a chameleon like Elaine did (and Madonna has the fake British accent down  )
Spark Of Spirit 11-27-2013, 01:06 AM The Circleville Letters, Tommy Ziegler, and Eric Tamiyasu cases would make interesting movies.
They sure have enough twists in them.

Oooo - Circleville letters would make an AWESOME movie! Good call!
Off-beat one, the story of Walter "Curly" Green, particularly about returning home from WWI to find out that his love had married another man, seems like something out of a Nicholas Sparks book/movie.
isotope 11-27-2013, 01:30 AM A couple of UM cases have already been made into movies
"Summer of Sam" (which, admittedly, only features Berkowitz as one of an ensemble cast of characters, and doesn't pursue UM's "multiple killers" suggestion)
"Fatal Vision" ( the Miniseries of Joe McGinnisses book about Jeffrey MacDonald , which [correctly, in my view] presents McDonald as the killer and rejects the "crazed hippies" nonsense)
"Zodiac"
mtaylor72 11-27-2013, 11:02 AM - The Jim/Annette Burnside case
- Krystal Nabb/Stuart Heaton case
- The Gainesville Killers

Oh my goodness, I thought I was the only one who thought she could play Cindy James. I was going to say that originally but wasn't too sure. Madonna should play the Elaine Parent roll, she's got the looks and the accent down.

I'd like to see a well researched movie about the Cleveland killings. There's supposedly a project that's been in the works for years, but hopefully the screenplay won't run in a similar vein to all the bunk that the various Jack the Ripper movies have portrayed....
DALLASTEXAN!! 11-27-2013, 04:15 PM Allegash four.
Fritz soldiers
More to come. Friends to the end will make a great one because of all the shadowy local govt allegations.
Mystery Man 11-27-2013, 04:34 PM I can see Jim Van Bebber ("The Manson Family", "My Sweet Satan") doing a good flick on SKATE and the Ellender double homicide. His movies are very colorful and over-the-top at times, but he's good at sticking to the facts, too, and surely doesn't shy away from any violence.
MegtheEgg86 11-27-2013, 05:07 PM Charles Morgan
WishfulDreamer 11-27-2013, 07:01 PM Charles Morgan
Yes! It would make for a great movie, especially if you tie in the Don Devereux connections.
RobinW 11-27-2013, 08:55 PM If the perpetrators ever get charged one of these days, Wendy Camp's story would make a hell of a movie. A disadvantaged woman meets a tragic end after becoming with involved with a scummy family, but her sister fights for over 20 years in order to seek justice.
Given the circumstances of the case, I'm surprised Johnny Lee Wilson's story didn't at least become a made-for-TV movie at one point.
UMFaninMD 11-28-2013, 01:25 PM Totally agree on The Wackers and The Circleville Letters.
Also:
L'Enfant
Kevin Poulson
Ohio prostitute murders
The Connecticut valley serial killer
I-70 killer
Mikki Jo West
James Weeks
Dennis Depue (even though Jeepers Creepers did the driving/seeing the killer scene, that's where the similarity ends)
DALLASTEXAN!! 11-28-2013, 05:02 PM Ear/ons

Ohio prostitute murders would be interesting. I always thought that was a case that was hard to prove that one killer committed. But certainly it opened our eyes to the trucker/prostitute issues that exist. I think there were probably several serial killers that worked in that industry for years.

Yes, this one. Nathan Fillion could play Sgt. Larry Crompton. He already has the writer/detective part locked down in Castle.
Oldschooler81 12-02-2013, 07:49 AM The Wackers
I was just about to post something half-jokingly about Wackers: The Movie  , but their story really would make a good one. Especially since (to me) logic points to it being a family member. The climax could've taken place during the stakeout, when he/she gets almost foiled or found out.
More:
Matt Chase
Christi Nichols :(
Roger Dean
Larry Dickens/Edward Harold Bell
Angela Hammond
Cheryl Holland/Eddie Wojten
Kristi Krebs
Gail Delano
MegtheEgg86 12-02-2013, 05:36 PM Christi Nichols :(
I wish that one could have an ending with an arrest and a conviction.
WishfulDreamer 12-02-2013, 07:38 PM Nelson DeCloud cult and Julie Cooper's subsequent escape with the help of Tim Santi.
Oldschooler81 12-03-2013, 10:26 PM I wish that one could have an ending with an arrest and a conviction.
Indeed! All things considered, one of the most tragic aspects of Christi's case is that it *could've* (and almost did) have a happy Hollywood movie style ending, with her beginning to divorce that lowlife.

Wackers: The Movie
The tagline should read "See our movie. It's a laugh."
Dude111 12-05-2013, 01:24 AM But what other cases should get the movie treatment?I would say DB COOPER!! (That and the san quentin one (Where they dont know how the guy escaped) are 2 of my favourites)
Oldschooler81 12-06-2013, 04:02 AM The tagline should read "See our movie. It's a laugh."
Good one. :rotflmao:
"Only a kook wouldn't go see our movie. It's a laugh, even if the cinematography is cheaper, but will do. If you don't go see it, I've had enough I'm callin' the sha-riff!"
PracTz 12-07-2013, 06:30 PM Liz Carmichael-
Not only did this person defraud investors out of millions over a bogus 'car of the future' that never seemed to have been more than a three wheeled-mini model with a block to support it, but everyone seemed surprised that 'Liz' turned out to have been a man [despite making Bea Arthur look downright pixieish]- and then went underground with a wife and their five children for twenty years! As I said in an earlier post on the subject, if this had been proposed as a fictional TV movie, even Lifetime would have laughed the writers out the door but bizarrely this IS what evidently happened.

I could see a Liz Carhmichael movie done by an actor who does bizarre roles like Johnny Depp.

Beverly McGowan would need an entire miniseries. It would start with the crime and then go into the search for the truth about Elaine Parent. Adam Brody could play "Sam" just to throw people off (he has that very lean face look and naturally black hair, but he could always put on a wig). It would be that kind of series that plays with your expectations like "The Beast Inside Me". Emily Blunt could be Elaine. As for Beverly, I kind of favor Elle Fanning even though she'd have to have dark hair.
Dogface82 03-16-2026, 10:44 PM I would say DB COOPER!! (That and the san quentin one (Where they dont know how the guy escaped) are 2 of my favourites)
An entertaining action movie starring the late Treat Williams was made about DB Cooper in the late 1970s or early 80s. There was also a made for TV movie or semi documentary made in the 1990s. Can't remember title of either.
There is a ton of background information on the Debbie Wolfe case that never made it to the press. Add that and the internet speculation to verifiable facts and you have a Tom Clancy type cold war movie.
added: The Mystery of DB Cooper is the only documentary I could find. Title only no production date. The Pursuit of DB Cooper, 1981 starring Treat Williams, Kathyrn Harrold & Robert Duvall. It was a box office flop, 14+million to make 3.7 million revenue. I guess after 45 years it is time for new DB Cooper film.
TheCars1986 03-17-2026, 06:58 AM It's a rare, lesser known segment but I think the Tony DeCompo segment would have made a decent Liftime movie.

100% agree! It's been years since I've seen it, but it had it all: a con man, abuser, car chase (including gunfire), wild goose chases, and an escape.
This guy is an absolute monster and needs to be jailed for the rest of his life, on a side note. He (of course) continued to do horrible things and has other victims.
Allierain 03-23-2026, 01:45 PM The case of Elizabeth CARmichael would make a great movie. I have such a soft spot for her.
If I recall there are two films about Agatha Christie’s disappearance. But the production of the UM segment was so beautiful that I’d love to see a full-length film in that style. Same with the Georgia Rudolph segment. I know many people consider that story a hoax but it would make a fascinating study. Sandra’s story would make great UM fan fiction fodder.

There is currently no FanFiction.net category for Unsolved Mysteries...seriously?
DALLASTEXAN!! 03-25-2026, 03:39 AM maybe not a movie, but a Tony Alamo documentary. what a sick and twisted predator he was. Nelson DeCloud could be another.

Richard Minns, the weird body builder elitist that had his girlfriend shot. it almost seems like Lifetime might have already ripped that one.

I used to love a good DB Cooper documentary.would even put the UM segment on at night to help me sleep. even got into FBI files where they showcase the similar highjacking by McCoy. I guess I finally burned out on it all.

WHAT!!!! We gotta fix that. Unsolved Mysteries is chock-full of fictional story ideas.
tvscript124 03-30-2026, 05:09 PM WHAT!!!! We gotta fix that. Unsolved Mysteries is chock-full of fictional story ideas.
The only caveat with UM would be that writers would be writing about real victims and real criminals, which could get into legal trouble even though many FF writers don't use their real names and ship real celebrities who could sue if they really cared to. NGL, I saw a fan fiction years ago that shipped Colin Mochrie and Ryan Stiles from "Whose Line Is It Anyway," because those two would often kiss just to make the audience laugh. Also, family members of victims and (maybe) fugitives might be upset with any fan fiction.
