View Full Version : Which network is airing the best sitcoms of today?
Buffyboy323 10-29-2013, 03:34 PM Which network is home to the best sitcoms airing today?
FOX: Dads, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl, The Mindy Project, Raising Hope.
ABC: Modern Family, The Middle, Suburgatory, The Goldbergs, Trophy Wife, Super Fun Night.
CBS: The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, How I Met Your Mother, The Millers, 2 Broke Girls, Mike and Molly, Mom, The Crazy Ones.
NBC: Parks & Recreation, Community, Sean Saves the World, The Michael J. Fox Show.
Cable: Louie, It's Always Sunny..., Eastbound & Down, Cougar Town, Girls, Workaholics, etc.
*I'm sure I left out a few shows, so feel free to list your favorites.
*This poll is only for live action sitcoms. The FOX and cable animated series are excluded.
irehtman 10-29-2013, 03:36 PM Dads, The Goldbergs, Mom, Sean Saves The World are the next ones to get axed by April 2014.
tlc38tlc38 10-29-2013, 03:45 PM First-run sitcoms I watch:
ABC: The Neighbors
NBC: Sean Saves the World
CBS: Mom, 2 Broke Girls, & The Crazy Ones
FOX: none
CW: none
Cable: none
So, I would say CBS takes the cake with me.
TV_on_the_Porch 10-29-2013, 03:48 PM I haven't watched a new sitcom in prime time since Married To The Kellys was canceled.
EmoJoe 10-29-2013, 03:50 PM Did you have to include the last option? Like we don't have enough "MODERN SHOWS SUCK!!!!!" posts here as it is...
Anyway, it's pretty close but Fox takes the cake. NBC was easily the #1 a few years ago when they had the Parks/Community/Office/30 Rock line-up. ABC would be a strong contender too if they hadn't ditched Cougar Town, Happy Endings & Apartment 23.
EDIT: Oh, I didn't see the cable option. Cable has Louie, Veep, Always Sunny, Girls...all great shows but it seems kind of unfair to lump all of the networks together and pit them against single broadcast networks. But in terms of comedy FX may be the best network out there right now, of cable and broadcast.
SO OKAY, here's my final ranking:
1. FX/FXX (even though FXX is a stupid idea and I hate it)
2. Fox
3. HBO
4. NBC
5. ABC
6. Comedy Central
7. CBS
Mr. Television 10-29-2013, 03:59 PM CBS-TBBT, The Millers, 2 Broke Girls, Mom, Mike & Molly
ABC-The Middle, Modern Family
Fox-Raising Hope
NBC-the Michael J. Fox Show
Raising Hope is better than TMJFS so I put Fox in 3rd place.

I'm aware of the dislike of all those horrible modern shows! It was a tongue in cheek option in the poll.
You did what I expected people to do with the cable option. In this day and age, there's many who only watch cable shows. That's why I put it as it's own option. But feel free to post your own individual cable network, like FX, if you want.
icecream 10-29-2013, 05:11 PM 1. FX/FXX (even though FXX is a stupid idea and I hate it)I prefer FXX to FX because they air Mad About You.
icecream 10-29-2013, 05:15 PM I voted for ABC. The Middle is easily the best current sitcom. The Goldbergs is the 2nd best with Welcome to the Family being pulled. The only other current sitcom I've stuck with is Raising Hope, the dramas are generally better.
yankeesrj12 10-29-2013, 06:21 PM CBS - Mike and Molly, Mom, The Big Bang Theory, The Millers, Two and a Half Men
FOX - Dads
NBC - Parks and Recreation
ABC - None
I've always enjoyed CBS comedies, so this was an easy choice.
HauntedThunderman94 10-29-2013, 07:34 PM ABC - The Middle and The Goldberg's
FOX - Raising Hope
NBC - None
CBS - None
lucy&vivfan 10-29-2013, 07:38 PM Essentially, sitcoms are dead. They aren't pulling in the numbers anywhere near where they once did (or should be doing.) The networks rave about these shows, but when you see the numbers, they are dismal at best.
CBS, NBC & ABC are going to be obsolete in 10 years. TV is about to undergo a radical change soon, as it should, because the morons running the show and puling the purse strings have no clue what they are doing.
It seems the American public is more interested in reality shows and dark, disturbing dramas than wanting to laugh....but what you think about what is going on in our country today, who wants to laugh. But God knows we need a good laugh.

I actually voted for Fox because I'm dumb and missed the cable option lol. But I guess cable technically has the most comedies I enjoy. I still think there's plenty of good comedy left on broadcast though. Unfortunately, much of it gets cancelled pretty quickly.
I prefer FXX to FX because they air Mad About You.
I like FXX as a network, but I don't actually get the channel so it's useless to me. I just think splitting up into two networks was an unneccessary idea that's made a lot of FX's shows inaccessible to people who got them before (like me!).

How is the sitcom dead? The #1 show on network TV is a sitcom, and there's plenty of other highly successful ones too. I'm guessing you don't look at ratings very much if you consider the ratings for Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, ect, "dismal".
Tubehead 10-30-2013, 12:52 AM I quit watching sitcom after 1990 they gotten too dirty only one I can stand right now is the big bang theory
irehtman 10-30-2013, 08:22 AM FOX, all the way, CW is the dead one.
bencasey 10-30-2013, 05:09 PM I quit watching sitcom after 1990 they gotten too dirty only one I can stand right now is the big bang theory
Ditto.
mr awesome 10-30-2013, 07:10 PM None of the above, no network currently has a superstar roster of good comedies like abc in the early 80s, nbc in the mid 80s and mid 90s and cbs in the 70s and 90s.
FOX has two comedies that I watch, while the other three networks each have one.
Buffyboy323 11-04-2013, 12:29 PM My rank:
1. FOX - New Girl, The Mindy Project
2. CBS - 2 Broke Girls, Mom, The Crazy Ones
3. ABC - The Goldbergs
4. NBC - The Michael J. Fox Show
These are the sitcoms I watch. Even though I enjoy (most of) them, I can see half of these getting canceled in the Spring.
Dude111 11-05-2013, 09:49 PM Did you have to include the last option? Like we don't have enough "MODERN SHOWS SUCK!!!!!" posts here as it is...Hehe well its good to see people agreeing right??
Buffyboy323 11-13-2013, 05:49 PM Hehe well its good to see people agreeing right??
Agreeing is one thing. But 41.18% of voters do not watch modern sitcoms!?!
I'm not completely sold on any network being the best for modern sitcoms. I like at least one show from each channel, but there isn't a clear winner during this era. You can find a few good shows, but there's no collective great sitcom network or schedule anymore.

Well, the sitcoms you mentioned here are pretty bad, in my opinion. The Crazy Ones probably is the best by far. The Mindy Project....is that a comedy now or a dramaedy? Frankly, I never understood it period.
EmoJoe 11-13-2013, 10:41 PM Well we can understand why right?

People on this forum are closed-minded and can't break through their ridiculously powerful rose-tinted glasses to see that there are good shows and bad shows from each era and the quality didn't just happen to drop off substantially right as they started getting older?

I don't LOVE any of the current sitcoms, but I wouldn't say they're all bad. The Crazy Ones is my least-favorite. I'm a few episodes behind, but will catch up this weekend. I hope the show improved since last month.
I would say The Mindy Project is a comedy. It's not a traditional show, but it is a sitcom. New Girl has dramatic moments all the time too. So did The Office. They're sitcoms with a little drama thrown in.
Buffyboy323 11-13-2013, 11:31 PM Well we can understand why right?
:)
44.44%!
Did you explain why?
EmoJoe 11-13-2013, 11:54 PM Sitcoms have been interjecting drama for a long time. It's not a new thing at all. Not sure how anyone could mistake The Mindy Project for anything other than a comedy.
