I do this so I can skip the commercials. Mr. Television 10-24-2013, 07:19 PM Everything I watch is DVR. I do this so I can skip the commercials. That's one of the reasons I do that. Another is because you can program your own lineup. TVFactFan 10-24-2013, 07:22 PM Everything I watch is DVR. I do this so I can skip the commercials. I thought everyone went on the internet when the commercials came on? MacLeaper 10-24-2013, 08:09 PM I don't watch much of anything on the networks and even when I watch shows on cable, I don't know that they're always live- I do sometimes make a point to tune in for a particular premiere of a special episode or something when I know about it, but even the shows I watch on cable are probably reruns most of the time. I don't have DVR, so I watch more stuff on VHS, DVD or online. 70s show watcher 10-24-2013, 08:19 PM i still watch the shows that i like at the time they come on i guess i am old school that way 70s show watcher 10-24-2013, 08:22 PM I don't watch much of anything on the networks and even when I watch shows on cable, I don't know that they're always live- I do sometimes make a point to tune in for a particular premiere of a special episode or something when I know about it, but even the shows I watch on cable are probably reruns most of the time. I just watch live when I can and when I can't, I DVR or watch on hulu bencasey 10-24-2013, 09:46 PM Where are they? Back in 1981 where they belong. There's no way I would ever waste my time watching a show as it airs when 1/3 of it is commercials. I have better ways to spend my time and since I'm not going to live to be 400, I'm not going to waste hours and hours sitting through commercials. TVFactFan 10-24-2013, 10:22 PM Where are they? MacLeaper 10-25-2013, 01:51 PM its nice to know that i am not the only one who still uses vhs for some things Oh yeah- I'm really old school that way when it comes to older technology and such- lol.:) I just watched a TV show on VHS last night actually- I have a tape of "America's Funniest Home Videos" themed around pets and released back in 1991 or so, I think- and it was fun to see Bob Saget hosting the show again with the original theme song I remember from when it first started airing and I was watching it as a kid. (I still love watching it now too though- Tom Bergeron does a great job with it.) And that show I watched on VHS was A LOT better, in my opinion, than anything available to me on TV at the time last evening.:) GrtGzu 10-25-2013, 02:28 PM Hey OP, do you have On Demand with ComCast? I do with TWC, and I also am NOT above using my VCR if necessary -It's how I got ALL of the Real McCoys when they used to be on TNN... LUNCH 10-25-2013, 03:59 PM Where are the other Live TV watchers??? I'm confident there are a lot of people in countries like Switzerland,Sweden, the United Kingdom and many other nations who still enjoy the luxury of watching television the old fashioned way--when the show airs. However of course those countries commercial TV channels show a fraction of the amount of advertising American commercial TV channels do now. Gertie1999 10-25-2013, 04:30 PM I watch all DVDs and Netflix. TV_on_the_Porch 10-25-2013, 04:32 PM Where are they? Back in 1981 where they belong. Why do you hate capitalism? :p dakert 10-26-2013, 12:05 AM Since I am at work, I tape Survivor on my VCR and when summer arrives I will tape Big Brother. EmoJoe 10-26-2013, 12:08 AM I watch them live if I can, but I don't really feel the need to commit myself to doing so since I have a DVR. The only show I really try to be home for is Community. I do typically like to watch them on the same night as they air. comedyfreak 10-26-2013, 04:26 AM I have no interest in DVR because I am not giving Comcast anymore money so i watch my shows live every week as soon as they come on. I have Dish Net and the DVR is included with my package. TVFactFan 10-26-2013, 12:21 PM I work 12hr shifts on Graveyard so I have to DVR my programs. On my days off I play catch up with my shows. Only things that I might ever watch while they air would be on HBO or one of the commercial free networks. Shows like Spartacus and Deadwood. Only things that I might ever watch while they air would be on HBO or one of the commercial free networks. Shows like Spartacus and Deadwood. I haven't watched any of my shows live in years. Even before the DVR, I was always one of those who taped everything and reviewed it later. I don't have to sit through commercials, and I don't have to be home all the time. I don't watch my shows live, but I do try to watch them later that same night. tv star collector 10-29-2013, 10:14 AM its nice to know that i am not the only one who still uses vhs for some things I still watch VHS tapes of shows that originally aired in the '80s and '90s. I also watch DVDs and basic cable (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and the CW). That's pretty much all I watch. For me, that's plenty. :) Torgo 10-29-2013, 06:18 PM I;'m mainly referring to people who work 9am to 5pm and still DVR shows when they are actually home when the show is on:lol:  I'm home after 2PM and I still DVR everything. I like being able to watch shows when I want, and skip commercials. Mr. Television 10-29-2013, 06:43 PM I'm home after 2PM and I still DVR everything. I like being able to watch shows when I want, and skip commercials. That's why I get a kick of the ratings only targeting 18-49 year olds. Most everybody tries to avoid commercials if they can. I can trim 30 minutes or more off a regular tv lineup when I watch on the DVR. visaman666 10-30-2013, 12:33 AM I am here. I think it is a generational thing. I am 49. My main TV is from 1983. I do have a DVD player, but use it to watch movies. My friends have PVRs but I will hold out until I get a new TV, which could be in 10 years or so. That be said. I do have time shifting on my cable package, so I am able to watch stations from Detroit, that let's me watch live programming from the east coast. visaman666 10-30-2013, 12:37 AM Since I am at work, I tape Survivor on my VCR and when summer arrives I will tape Big Brother. I take it then that you don't subscribe to the live feeds then? There is a bit of a thrill in watching Big Brother live on TV, then waiting for the live feeds to click in. visaman666 10-30-2013, 12:41 AM Where are they? Back in 1981 where they belong. I take it then that you don't watch 30 minute infomercials. I find that the entertainment quality of infomercials are declining from the Golden Age of the late 80s- early 90s. MacLeaper 10-30-2013, 03:12 PM I like watching some of the half-hour long infomercials late at night sometimes- mainly the ones where Time Life is selling various compilations of music- it's great fun for me to see all the songs collected and clips of the music videos or live performances.:) bencasey 10-30-2013, 05:06 PM I take it then that you don't watch 30 minute infomercials. Regulus 10-30-2013, 05:12 PM Only if you held a gun to my head would I watch that or any reality crap. You can go ahead and pull the trigger. The Scripted Shows they have in Heaven are considerably better than any show in this world. Torgo 10-30-2013, 05:14 PM That's why I get a kick of the ratings only targeting 18-49 year olds. Eventually we're going to upgrade to DishNetwork's Hopper which is supposed to eliminate commercials altogether. |
