would I be able to record pre-recorded VHS tapes to DVDs, like tapes that I buy of movies and TV shows? I mean would I break some copyright law?

At least I dont think you can. comedyfreak 10-07-2013, 05:56 AM A DVD recorder will not allow you to record a copyrighted VHS tape to dvd. OH Nuts! 10-12-2013, 01:24 PM You can try your luck AND YOU SHOULD. Some will be blocked but others won't. I had some esoteric old movies I liked and was able to transfer. And thank God. I hate VHS, at least with my combo unit - it's destroyed at least eight tapes so far. DVDs are much easier for me to store as I have very limited space. Coffeecup 10-18-2013, 05:25 PM I have about a dozen Vhs tapes I would like transferred. Home movies of my family that I took in the 1990's. So as long as you don't sell them you can copy. No I can't see my selling my videos. Then I have a camcorder 8mm tapes that I should transfer over too. I don't have a dvd recorder. So hard in this world when everything keeps changing. Torgo 10-21-2013, 08:58 AM You don't need a VHS recorder to do it, you just need the right programs, and a video capture card/device for your computer. I record VHS, Beta, and Laser Discs that haven't been released onto DVD yet, also home videos that we want backed up. treky 10-21-2013, 05:24 PM what's a video capture card/device? Torgo 10-21-2013, 05:43 PM what's a video capture card/device? It's used to connect your VCR (or other components like laser disc players) to the computer. I use a Pinnacle Dazzle- http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n599/smerdly/dazzle-capture-hd_hi_1_zps500a3c7a.jpg (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/smerdly/media/dazzle-capture-hd_hi_1_zps500a3c7a.jpg.html) Furienna 10-21-2013, 07:24 PM It's used to connect your VCR (or other components like laser disc players) to the computer. That way, I could upload material from my old VHS tapes to a computer. treky 10-21-2013, 11:38 PM sounds complicated; I'll stick with the DVD recorder/VCR. |
