View Full Version : How much water do you drink?

I've never liked water. If I drink a lot of it, I get a headache. However, not drinking enough water was causing me various health problems, so a couple of months ago, I started drinking three bottles a day. I hate how it keeps me chained to the bathroom, going almost non-stop, but everything has its price they say. Then, I got lazy and stopped drinking it, and noticed that my lower back pain returned with a vengeance.

I googled back pain and dehydration and got a load of hits. It's best explained here:

http://www.freedrinkingwater.com/water_heal/medical1/1-dehydration-cause-back-pain.htm

So I'm back on the water train, and hopefully my back pain will subside, like it did before. How much water do you drink?

It's interesting when you read how many health-related issues can be caused from dehydration. I've recently noticed that I get headaches when I don't drink enough water.

The amount of water that I drink does vary. Some days it seems like I'm drinking all day long, and others barely any at all. I don't seem to drink all that much during the day when I'm working. I would like to be more consistent, with drinking enough water regularly.

I hope your back pain starts to improve, Janice!

Between 2-3 bottles a day.

I usually rotate w/ Poland Spring, Aquafina and Deer Park.

I don't care for the Nestlé bottled water since they add minerals to it and the taste is noticeable. I'm also not into Vitamin Water.

None if I can avoid it. I have to really be desperate to drink even bottled water and prefer to drink it only if I have a packet of Crystal Light to go with it. Tap water is off limits unless it's boiled or filtered and it's the only thing available. I'm not one that subscribes to the eight 8 ounce glasses a day recommendation, one 16oz bottle is all I need.

How much water I drink depends on how long I'm awake for. I would say when I'm home 1 to 2 bottles of water. My mother tells me I should drink a lot more water. When I'm awake for more hours I drink more water.

I hope your back pain gets better Janice.

Well when I first was dx'd as a type 2 diabetic, I was drinking 8-9 quarts a day. Which was really creepy, but once I began dieting, and WATCHED (and I mean WATCHED) what I ate - my drinking returned to normal. I like to stay hydrated so I drink about 8-10 cups a day (3 of them in decaf coffee) and maybe 2 in diet sodas. So the rest is seltzer or just plain H2O. I also find I eat less when I drink 8-10 cups a day. I never drink juice of any kind.

Not everyone needs to drink 8-10 cups, but I find it helps me.

I don't really drink that much water. I drink it mostly in the summer when I'm hot. The rest of the year I don't drink it much.

I drink a lot of water. Probably 10 or more glasses a day. I use to drink soda, but 10 years ago I quit. It wasn't helping my health.

I have a vitamin water bottle that I refill the water from the fridge. I have wondered if drinking more water will keep the Palpitations that I get from time to time away.

I guess you can say I refill that bottle that is 20oz, two or three times a day. I don't drink as much sodas anymore like I used to, I have one can a day but as of late, I have been drinking the 7.5 ouce can instead of the 12 oz.

Water is the main thing I drink, if I drink much of anything else I get lower back pain and my urine stinks My doctor told me that urine should be as clear as water. If it's not, it means I'm not drinking enough water. If it's a deep yellow, it definitely has a funky odor.

If I drink too much of anything, even water I get bladder pressure, and certain foods too, so I probably don't drink enough water. I don't want to be in the potty every 10 minutes and feeling like I have to go that much(when I don't) is miserable

I'm not a huge fan of water, but I am trying to wean myself off of diet sodas. Have you tried any water additives like Mio? It sounds lame as hell, but they have helped me stick to water instead of running back to Coke Zero.

I also have Type 2 Diabetes, and drinking more water helps me keep my portions smaller.

I don't drink enough. Probably three or four glasses a day on average.

I am not sure of the exact amount.

Probably about five 8-ounces glasses per day.

I drink a good bit of water every day.

I always have a bottle with lunch, and usually with most dinners. I like putting lime juice in it. And for something sweet, I'll add a pack of sweet n low to make lime-aid.

I very rarely drink soda any more. If I happen to get a soda with a fast food meal, I'll take a few sips while I eat, and then I usually dump about 90% or more of whatever I bought. We stopped keeping soda in the house a long time ago.

Wal Mart sells a product called "True Lime" ... it's actual crystallized lime, and when you put a pack of it in a glass of water, it's basically the equivalent of squeezing the juice from a lime wedge. Good stuff, and handy to keep in my desk at work

I drink a lot of it as well. I've been doing so at least since I was in my 20s. As I now approach my 50s, I can say that I've never spent a day in the hospital for any reason. I guess I was lucky to be born with a large-capacity bladder...! lol

Dr once told my brother too cold of water isn't good for stomach's. It can cause stomach upset just like other things

Any tips on trying to drink more water? I think I'm dehydrated. It's hard to drink the recommended amount of water. If it only tasted like soda, lol.

I imagine most people would have to work up to drinking more and more water. The majority of probably didn't grow up doing that.

Maybe start with a couple of glasses per day and work your way up to however many you should be drinking. Your body will get used to it, it just takes a little time

YES!!! ;) And I like how if you have water with a meal it doesn't interfere with the taste of the food!;) Like soda, juice, iced tea etc., to me it overwhelms the food taste!

I found some links with info about exactly how much water one should drink. I'll post them when I can get to my PC. But basically, there really is no universal ideal amount. A lot of factors enter into determining how much water you should drink, including age, the climate you live in and your activity level.

It is recommended that a person drink eight 8 ounce glasses of water each day. There are probably a lot of people who do not drink that much. I try and drink 5 glasses each day. During the Summer months I probably drink more.

A good amount but it's mostly through coffee, seltzer and diet soda.
