I'm one of those people who loves getting mail. Today was a big mail day for us. My husband buys and sells coins as a hobby/money maker. He got two coins in the mail today. I send away for freebies and samples as a hobby. Today I got a whetstone blade sharpener with a leather case. I also got some Uberliss shampoo and conditioner packets and Purina One dog food.

I got four magazines (also freebies). US, Sports Illustrated, Rolling Stone and Lowrider. I got a Blockbuster movie and a request for a donation from the March of Dimes with Fall themed address labels and stickers...pumpkins, turkeys, lanterns, etc.

Fortunately, no bills today; most of our biills are paid online anyway. I got a couple of pieces of junk mail. That's about it. Some days we got a lot of mail, while other days, practically nothing.

Congrats. I missed that one. I get nice stuff from Black & Mild, also from Marlboro and Copenhagen. A set of darts, a premium cigar, a whetstone, coasters (made to look like album covers), mugs with our names, silver shakers to name a few. They all give away some excellent freebies.

Nothing for me today, I used to get stuff from Marlboro all the time but my name must not be on their mailing list any longer because it's been over 2 years since I got anything including coupons. Speaking of tobacco promotions, I didn't get this in the mail but I found 10 Diablo bobblehead dolls at a Salvation Army thrift store last Friday. Supposedly they were a promotional item by Cigar World and were given to select dealers of Diablo Tabacos Picantes cigars which were discontinued. They're were several variations and an Ebay seller claims that this one was limited to only 500 produced but I've been unable to verify it and it seems highly unlikely since I found 10 in one place.

There's also some useless pieces of mail that don't even deserve an explanation.

I've placed myself on the mailing lists of every car dealer in my area. From time to time they send me flyers for their sales drives, they give away "Golden Dollars", target and Wal-Mart Gift cards (Usually $10, but I received 3 $25 and one $50 card) Once I get my Cash or cards i make my way to Targhee or Uncle Wally's where I purchase a toy, which I'll donate to one of five charities this December. :santa2:

This past Thursday, a letter from the Florida DCF informing me that my Food Aid would begin again. (I was getting $16.00 a Month from 2007 to this past June, then it was cut off because a $6.00 a month increase on my Disability made me "Too Rich" for Food Aid. Someone in Florida changed the rules and once more I qualify, and then some, I now get $81.00 a month in Food Aid! (I'd rather get a job, then I could get up to $600 a Month, with the knowledge I'm HELPING others less fortunate than I, instead of receiving Taxpayer Dollars) until this happens (and if you live in Florida you do not know how SCREWED worker get from their Employers thanks to the so-called "Right to Work" law in this state. (The law has a provision that allows employers to terminate their employment for any reason they want for the first 90 days). When I was working time and again I'd get SCAMMED by my employers, the most common ones were:

1. The "88" Scam. - Congratulations, you got a Job! You start working. Through the weeks you get buttered up by the staff and management. A week before you reach that 90 days they tell you when you pass that mark you will become a full-fledged employee, your wages will go from $8.00 an hour to $12.00 an hour, and you'll get the whole nine yards of benefits (Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, Optical Insurane, one place even told me they'd pay my Car Insurance as long as I didn't cause an Accident or get a Ticket). the following Monday you come in and clock in. You are confronted my your supervisor only to be told you're no longer needed. The average length of your employment/ 88 Days.

2. The "Hidden Position" Scam. Once again you get a job. Your are shown your position. The working Conditions are pleasant, and the co-workers are friendly. If a Radio is involved it's tuned into a Station you like. You work this position for two or three weeks. Once again you are told how great a worker you are. Then one day once again you clock in. Again you're confronted by your supervisor. He tells you something like "Another Manager - Joe Smith needs help in his department. I want you to go help him. The work is anything but pleasant. If your previous position was in an air-conditioned building your new position isn't. The co-workers are not friendly and/or don't speak your language. If a Radio is present its spews out stuff you cannot stand to listen to. Once such job I had I "Toughed it out" for nearly a month. Then one day I told the manager I needed to use the restroom. I took a little side trip to the area I had first worked at, to discover someone else was doing that job. The Lunch Buzzer rang, and I followed that worker to the Lunch Room. I introduced myself to him, and I asked him how long had he worked here. He was hired the same day I was sent to my current position! He was essentially waiting for me to quit or get fired so he could be sent to take over the position I left! I clocked out at Lunch and never returned to that company.

This week they included a coupon for a $7.99 haircut at Great Clips which is regularly $12.00 and a coupon for $10.00 off a Bayer Contour blood glucose monitor which is on sale this week at CVS for $9.99 and you get that back with extra bucks. I only had to pay .70 cents tax and got the monitor plus $9.99 to use in the store. I used that and got a 12 roll pack of Bounty paper towels which were on sale for $9.99 and again I only paid .70 tax.

The electricity bill, it was $11 dollars cheaper than last month.

I received one of those letters asking for donations that included 10 cents inside. These usually come around the holiday seasons and typically include a nickel or a dime. They go in my coin jar.

I get those too but many times get charities asking for money that give you enough address labels to last a lifetime . I prefer the charities that give you a block of blank writing paper, a bookmark, calendar or tip/money helper.

Nothing today. Yesterday I got a jury duty notice!! YIKES!!! I've never done Jury duty before. I got a notice before but got out of it said I had financial hardship, but now I'm not working and I heard it's stricter now to get out of it anyway!

I have a hard time imagining doing jury duty, as we don't have that kind of system here in Sweden. But I'm sure you will get through it well enough. :)

Thank you Furienna. IDK about me being on a jury! I'm a bit scatter brained :crazy: and I tend to get anxiety attacks ! :eek:

How do they pick a jury in Sweden?

If you really feel that you can't do it, maybe you can get out of it again.

It seems like here in Sweden, our equivalent to the American juries are mostly politicians. That is, people who already have volunteered to public service. They won't take just anybody, who is not up to it.

Jeez!! That s*cks!! I know how you feel. I got my electric bill today. Higher than I expected. Haven't been running the AC, which makes it high of course! Our electric bill (DWP) is every two months, so maybe still from the extra lights at Christmas, which isn't very much, we have a small place and only had a tiny little tree , and other years after the holidays it wasn't this high! THE ECONOMY!!! UGG! :mad:

Among the Junk Mail I got todaywas a flyer from an auto dealer. I went to that dealership and "relieved" them of a $5.00 Gift Card good at Uncle Wally's. Made a beeline to the nearest store and got a set of Hot Wheels Cars for FREE!!! :D

The cars will be donated to a Christmas Charity this December.

That's an annoying phenomenon known as "mouseprint." You see something in an ad that looks promising or attractive, only to find out that it's the proverbial "pig in a poke," with so many restrictions and addendums it's not even worth trying.

Thats a JC Penney Coupon you have there...but thats not the one I got...I didnt have to sign up for anything and it had no restrictions.......so it wasnt a pig coupon or whatever you called it......

Actually... I think that was a real Easter BEER.. not a ROOT BEER.... but we will have to wait on confimation on that!! A reimbursement check from the travel insurance company for the rental car charges I incurred as a result of being stranded in NYC due to all of the flights being cancelled. I'm glad to finally be able to deposit this and put it on my American Express.
