then the following week it was $4.00 lower?

I mean what person would not want to talk with payroll if their money is going in the wrong direction? LOL

The last two checks I received has been lower and today's check was lower than the one I got on 7/12. So my supervisor is trying to understand why am i so bothered by $2 and 4$ missing dollars??

what the f*ck does she mean it's only 2 or dollars? who does not want to know why their check is getting smaller? I have enjoyed working with my supervisor the past 8 months but she really irritated me with her "it's only $4.00' especially when she makes much more than me and has a husband

Am I the only one on the planet that would not want to know why my check suddenly went down? I can't be the only one

I went to HR and was told that since it's a extra day in the new fiscal year, everyone's salary is spread out the first 3 checks.

So she said it will be back to normal the last check in August.

I work for the city of phila

No, I would not show concern that it is $2 lower because that is stupid to show concern that is $2 lower, it is not going to hurt you

If you do not like it, you can always quit and look for a better job

It is not $200 lower so quit complaining about it

Did you hear me say the check went down two times in a row?

The 12th.....$2.00

Today.........$4.00

So It looked like 8/9 was going to be....$6.00

So why shouldn't I be concerned when supermarket prices are higher than ever?

Just buy generic brands if you want to save money even though generic brands are nasty

Maybe you are doing a terrible job that they decide to reduce $2 each week until you improve your performance

well that's why I had to ask because it seemed like I was penalized for something. No normal person looks at their check go $2 a pay and not questioned.

Not always, some generic or store brands are just as good or better than their brand-name counterparts.

I would definitely find out what's going on because I earned that money. Small amounts add up quickly over time.

If someone gives you grief about it say, "If you dropped $5, wouldn't you pick it up?" It's the same thing.

Have you spoken to payroll to find out why. Maybe there's a reason ( change in your benefit co-pay, change in tax rate, etc.)

When I worked at one job, each bi-weekly check was my annual salary times 14/365. But in the next fiscal year it was my annual salary times 14/366, because that FY crossed into a leap year - making my paycheck about 0.3% less.

So wacky things can happen; again go to payroll and find out WHY.

I explained it in the OP.

I was told that it's a extra day in the 2013-14 fiscal year so everyone's salary is spread out for the first 3 checks of the current fiscal year.

My issue was how my supervisor who is making a nice salary and has a husband was acting like I shouldn't be annoyed with losing money 2 checks in a row.

with all the sh*t going up including rent who the hell is not going to question a lower check? lol So i never experienced this before so of course I wanted a explanation as to why my check was lower. The past few months i was wondering if city employees received a cola raise so you know I definitely didn't want to see a COLA decrease LOL

They should be told you before it started happening, that way you weren't surprised, I hate stuff like that when they don't tell you something they easily could have. HR is always the worst to deal with at work

lol

If you are the lowest paid (most easily replaceable) employee, you may want to choose your battles more carefully.

As you have demonstrated on this board, Solomon, you can have a somewhat prickly personality. Lowest paid/newest employees are usually the ones that are laid off when companies need to tighten their belts. How long were you unemployed before you took your current job?

I beleive that people need to stand up for themselves, but you have to ask yourself if generating ill will with your HR department is worth the $6 discrepancy.

It's not worth getting on the bad side of your supervisor, Solomon. Bosses can get away with making crass and dismissive statements such as "It's only $4". Only a fool wouldn't care that their paycheck is going in the wrong direction. Do your best to just forget it. This is one battle you can't win.

It's already hard to accept that I am the lowest paid employee so when this started happening I definitely became irritated.

I never had a orientation, I just started and hit the ground running which was not a bad thing at the time because I only had two unemployment checks left.

But you can see how it ended up catching up with me 8 months later

Janice I didn't have a angry approach about it, I was all smiles about it at the job but I did express my concern after seeing the same number for so many months and then all of a sudden it was lower and then lower lol.

I just showed my frustration on here about it that someone who has a nice salary and married has the nerve to downplay 4 missing dollars

Before you start posting stupid sh*T, you need to know more about my situation

First of all it's a city government job and no one has ever been laid off at this agency. The last person in my position was fired and the total number of staff at the agency is 5 people including me

Director
Assistant Director
Project Director
Finance Advisor
Job Counselor

So it's a stable job but everyone else just makes more because of their titles which is why I said I am the lowest paid and don't need to hear them saying "it's only $4.00"

Only $4.00 my a$$ crack with all the things happening below

Soaring Food Prices
Soaring Cleaners Prices
Soaring Gas Prices
Soaring public transit prices
Annual Rent Increases

LOL, I love the fact that you can get away with spouting off the way you do here. You do make me chuckle, Solomon.

I agree, you should have been told about this before the fact. Your HR was sloppy in that regard.

So, no one has been laid off and you have the added security of being a government employee. You can still get poor performance reviews, especially on gray areas like "attitude" and "being a team player" if you push your supervisor too far.

Regarding being the lowest employee; perhaps your coworkers have been there longer, are on a higher tier than you, and/or have more education? Just because you think you should be paid more doesn't mean that anyone else does. Harsh truth, but a truth nonetheless.

Yes, prices do go up. It is not, however, your employer's responsibility to make your whole in that regard. Some municipalities do give COLA increases, but some have not been doing so because of the economy. I'm sure that there are plenty unemployed people in your area (9.6% in Philly as opposed to the rest of PA which is 7.6%) who would LOVE to have your job, even if it paid $4 less per pay period.

So what if your coworkers are married? That legally doesn't influence their salaries at all. Also, they may have additional expenses that you do not; like children. You don't know what other peoples' responsibilities and obligations are.

If you think that you are grossly underpaid, start circulating your resume. If you are all that, I'm sure someone would hire you for what you think you are worth.

Build a bridge and get over this, the only person that your resentment is hurting will be yourself. You coworkers will still receive their salaries and your replacement will enjoy having a job.

Peace out.

For something like this, the amount isn't as important as the principle of the thing. It would bother me too, although it's good that he got an answer that seems reasonable.

I once worked for Builders Square when they were part of the Kmart corp. and went and had a dental checkup. When I filed with my insurance, I was told I had no coverage. WHAAAT? I had been paying into dental insurance for months!! I then had to go and find out that a power outage knocked out their records of my coverage. In other words, if I hadn't filed a claim, I would have continued paying with my money disappearing! Why wasn't I told that some records had been obliterated?

This is the kind of crap that shouldn't happen. An employer has a responsibility to be upfront with their employees on all financial matters. Instead, all we hear is how bad people are performing in the workplace.

I recommend Undercover Boss as revealing of just how inept and lacking in skills the bigwigs are. Most of these people can't even do menial tasks at all! Yet they rake in the big bucks.

I know why they have high salaries which is because their positions and their length of time at the agency. I was just saying that I don't want my supervisor making light of my situation because not does she have a high salary, she has a husband as a backup income.

And I am not grossly underpaid because if I was i would have never accepted the position. i just wanted to point out that I am the lowest paid because it's the lowest one at the agency which is understandable. So it was more of a concern thing not a frustration thing because I never in my working life received a paycheck that was lower and then the next one which was lower than that.

And yes it was only $2 the first time but I don't want my check to go down I want it to go up.

And even if I had ignored it on the 7/12 check I definitely would have said something when I saw that the 7/26 was lower than the last check.

So like you said, it wasn't about the amount it was more about WHY is it happening and when can I expect it to stop going down lol
