Anything these days musically that does not have electronic beats, Autotune and rappers is probably considered rock.

I've only listened to snippets of Mumford & Sons and to me they're more progressive, not straight up rock. Also, I just need to say I'm tired of that "Hey Ho" song from The Lumineers. I don't see why they get all this praise. Maybe it's because they don't use electronic beats, Autotune or rappers.

That stupid band Fun! is considered rock too for some reason. The closest you can get to true "rock" is usually the bands that make the Mainstream Rock charts. Anything on the pop charts is absolutely NOT rock'n'roll.

i don't even think this is really a slam at all; you could also claim that these bands aren't Hip Hop, because they aren't - it's not a slam, it is just a statement.

Alice Cooper did mention on 'Metal: A Headbanger's Journey' several years ago that he is often credited with "inventing" heavy metal, though he never seemed to buy into that contention. His band was rather avant-garde in the late '60's when they began, and though they were very much a hard rock band, it was a stretch to call them metal. His band showed many influences, and were by all means show-biz-oriented and theatrical. He became even more so eclectic when he went solo in the mid-70's, but when he made his comeback in 1986 (after a few lackluster below-the-radar albums), he was very much metal and has stayed that way. Well, more of a commercial metal akin to Ozzy.

Exactly!!! Black Sabbath ARE the inventors of metal. Their music was so different from what everyone else was doing. Nuclear blues, as they were once described.

Alice Cooper's stage act was what was different from everyone else was doing, and they didn't start getting popular until their hit "I'm Eighteen". That was a few albums in.

Mumford & Sons aren't true rock...they're more pop-rock, they have their roots in British Folk Rock like Fairport Convention, Incredible String Band, and The Strawbs.

Whether Mumford & Sons is considered rock 'n' roll or not, I do like some of their songs. I also like some of Alice Cooper's songs too, for that matter.
But then, I enjoy listening to rock, heavy metal and folk rock or pop or whatever you want to call Mumford & Sons' style music. (And a lot of other styles as well.):) :cool:

"Under My Wheels" is rock. "Ho Hey" is not.
